Terry Boers never really breaks news but he just casually said that Ventura is toast this week with a bad series vs Detroit. It really does finally have that feel. Lots of smoke about it from radio guys, bloggers, etc.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 11:46 AM) Referring to both Burdi and Hamilton. 221 isn't that high. If he has a great shot at the majors as a reliever but other position players in that area don't then yes I think Hamilton is the better prospect. I don't like taking relievers in the 1st round, even ones as awesome as Zach Burdi but at a certain point they do become underrated. Getting a guys like Hamilton in the 11th is a greta pick. You just throw him 1 inning at a time, his stuff plays up, and moves extremely quick. I get it.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 11:40 AM) Interesting to see BA rate closers so highly. I think it's because many people think he can start long-term.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) If Anderson hits and can be moved up to the 2-spot, would anyone be opposed to Bourgeois or Leury Garcia patrolling center and hitting 9th? Don't really know how they're doing defensively, but it could add another solid defender in center pushing Eaton back to right with more speed and flexibility on the roster. No but I'd rather have either guy than Shuck on the bench. At least they can play CF and they can both steal a bag.

Out of the MLB.com top 200, the White Sox drafted 6 guys: Zack Collins (14), Zach BUrdi (41), Alec Hansen (62), Jameson Fisher (75), Luis Curbelo (104), and Ian Hamilton (187) They also drafted 12 guys from the Baseball America Top 500: Collins (16), Burdi (21), Hansen (37), Fisher (64), Curbelo (99), Hamilton (221), Call (266), Flores (312), Nolan (410), Elliot (478), Lambert (479), and Booker (492). I'm guessing they'll get great overall reviews from Baseball America.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) Firing Robin might salvage this season a little, but what happens after that? Wouldn't they have to sign his successor to a new contract after the season anyway? I don't know. It seems more likely that they'll let Robin finish this season and then let him go in the offseason. I truly do believe that he gets fired after the Detroit series if it doesn't go well. Rick Renteria becomes the interim. If Renteria guides them to the playoffs, I suppose he could receive the permanent title but I expect Sandy Alomar to be the manager next season.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 10:15 AM) Great stuff. Hamilton could be one of the fast risers in the bullpen. Definitely grabbed some interesting catching prospects. Hamilton will be coming fast if they leave him in the bullpen which it sounds like is the plan. Here's the snippet from mlb.com on Hamilton Scouting Grades: Fastball: 50 | Curveball: 45 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 45 | Overall: 45 Hamilton had built a reputation as one of the better college closers in the game, collecting 28 saves over his first two seasons at Washington State and pitching extremely well out of the bullpen in the Cape Cod League last summer. When moved into the rotation for his junior year, though, his stuff backed up and knocked him down several pegs on Draft boards everywhere. When pitching in shorter stints, he would crank his fastball up into the 94-97 mph range consistently. His very good changeup would play off of that, and he lived largely off of that two-pitch mix. As a starter, Hamilton has been very vanilla, largely pitching with an 89-91 mph fastball and trying to use his fringy breaking ball more frequently. He's moved around to various spots in Washington State's weekend rotation as a result. Any team considering taking Hamilton in the top five rounds will be doing so based on his track record and success on the Cape. A return to a bullpen could allow him to move fairly quickly through a system as well.

McNeil should be Kaplan's partner on 1000.

QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:44 AM) raBBit - Assuming Collins signing goes as planned; what is a REALISTIC timetable for him? You didn't ask me but if they honestly are planning on having him catch, I would think sometime during the 2018 season.

Very solid draft overall for the White Sox. Collins, Burdi, and Hansen all very good day 1 picks. Call should be underslot in the 3rd. Jameson Fisher was a top 75ish type guy on most boards. H can really hit and get on base. Jimmy Lambert in round 5 should be an underslot as well. Luis Curbelo is a HS SS from Miami. He is going to cost some $$ but they would not have taken him where they did if he wasn't signing. Saved some $$ in round 7-10. Ian Hamilton from Washington State might be value in round 11. He's a bullpen guy but BA had him 221 on their top 500. I would imagine that Michael Hickman signs this time around after spending a year at JUCO. Some interesting HS names in the 30's and I expect most of them to be unsignable.

And on 38th rounder Justin Lavey: Hansen Hillmer @HansenThrillmer Jun 11 The fourth high schooler from Wisconsin gets chosen; Justin Lavey from Kenosha. Unlikely to sign, though. #MLBDraft 0 retweets 0 likes

Coach Heberling @CoachHeberling Jun 11 Congratulations to @ImJaxonn on being selected in the 34th round by the White Sox. They got one heck of a ball player! 1 retweet 3 likes This is about 34th rounder and INF Jaxon Shirley. Any indication that he might sign?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 08:29 AM) It wasn't really hate as much as it was a joke, but I am glad to hear he is legit. Any chance at signing these late HS picks? Do you think we saved enough money early? SS, will there be a thread to post signings and rumored signings from twitter and other places? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2016 -> 05:54 PM) How much information is out there about the high school kid Zach Farrar they took in round 26? When I quickly looked him up, it looks like he is a big time football player with big D1 offers. Is this our bonus baby for this year? I expect Curelo to be fairly expensive in round 6. He's pretty highly regarded. Hickman probably signs this Time too. That's probably most of their bonus pool though. -

Zack Collins agrees to deal with White Sox

He hasn't signed yet though. Just agreed to terms which is great. I don't think he could actually play for Miami this weekend otherwise. -

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 06:19 PM) So he is out till after the All Star game. Then he will need at least a couple weeks in Charlotte seeing live pitching which means around August 1st. Can he manage the team until he is ready??? NO. He's heading out on a rehab soon. Should be playing for Sox after ASB

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 03:09 PM) If you didn't, wouldn't he be open to waivers when we send him back down? Yes, but if it were short-term wouldn't they just call up Carroll or something?

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 02:59 PM) Guessing Tyler gets a night in the big leagues. They wouldn't put him on the 40 to do that though would they?
