Game 7 should be awesome. I hope LeBron pulls it off. It's a legacy defining game. Cleveland hasn't won a title in any sport in 50+ years. The Cavs pulling it off against this team in their building coming from down 3-1 would be an awesome sports moment. I like seeing s*** I've never seen before and generally root for greatness though.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 10:57 PM) I just puked in my mouth. He's the least likeable superstar in sports. This is dumb.. I save my disdain for guys that get in trouble off the court. I mean you have Bobby Jenks' name in your display name and he's a much worse human than LeBron is.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 07:39 PM) I thought so too. Maybe the Sox anticipate only being able to sign one of Hickman/Curbelo? Hopefully the 200k+ the Sox have saved will be enough to sign both for above slot value. I think Curbelo will be a tough signing. Curbelo is definitely signing. It's already been indicated basically. They would not have taken him in the top 10 rounds if he wasn't signing.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 04:15 PM) You're selectively looking at stats just to fit your narrative. Latos gave up 16 of his 31 runs this season in 3 starts and was DFA. Why doesn't he get a pass as well? If you are going to "take away" the 3 worst starts from Shields, you have to do it for every pitcher. Because s*** costs money. That's why. Shields is owed $27 million and was just acquired. Latos was a $3 million flyer. James Shields isn't being released.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) There is no reason to. I can't see the Wolves ever agreeing to it. The Bulls have no reason to take a package without him in it though either. Levine, Dieng, and #5? Keep it.

The Truth About
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) A Hall of Fame pitcher just publicly posted his mechanical flaw. People can either go with that, or they can go with their idea that in the matter of 3 starts James Shields has completely forgotten how to pitch. Bruce Levine was on with Mully and Hanley this morning and said in the 3rd inning that a team executive came down after identifying a mechanical issue. They feel like he's tipping his pitches. Shields and Cooper have begun to work on it apparently.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 06:48 AM) This is going to be Edwin Jackson/Daniel Hudson all over again, isn't it? No. The Sox thought Daniel Hudson was going to get hurt and traded him. The problem is, they could have traded him for something better (even though EJax was very good here). Erik Johnson had pretty much no value.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
Dan Plesac said that the Cubs should trade Schwarber for Andrew Miller. That would be stupid. There's no way Theo does that. Schwarber could headline a package for a frontline starter. Why would they deal him for a 30+ year old reliever?

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 08:41 AM) As much as I wanted to see him up here, I dont think there is any way you can keep running Coats out there. He is devoid of any approach at all and you are just throwing away those ABs. Im not sure where the relief is going to be coming from as there isn't really any reasonable replacements in the minors. If Engel was in AAA, I'd maybe think about giving him a chance, but he's too far away still. If Im Rick Hahn, Im looking to upgrade 3 areas: RP, DH, and CF. I think this team can stick around long enough to wait for Burdi to come up and contribute, so I'd put less priority on RP. DH has been a black hole of awful and is the most immediate area of need. I hate to even say it, but Jay Bruce would look really good on this team right now....if he never had to field again. His defensive metrics make Avi's look decent. If his price is too steep, then I go ask the Rays about the price on Pearce. He is absolutely mashing this season and allows you a lot of flexibility as a franchise. Im not sure there is a quick solution to our CF problems, there isn't a lot out there right now that would be better than just moving Eaton back over. Jon Jay? Billy Hamilton? Yep. Jay Bruce, Jon Jay, and Will Smith would be awesome.

Rosenthal's piece today said that the White Sox have always loved Jonathan Lucroy but that they probably don't have enough in their system to get it done.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 03:25 PM) Thibs is not giving up Wiggins. They are offering the 5th pick and I am sure they anticipate having to throw in a sweetener like Levine and a future pick for it to possibly be enough for the Bulls FO to take the bait. They aren't getting Jimmy Butler then. I don't think Kris Dunn, Zach LaVine, and Dieng is enough. Bulls should hold out for Wiggins or not deal him to Minnesota. How badly does Tom want him? Boston can probably top Minnesota's offer. I'm definitely on board with dealing him and remaking the roster. I also love Dunn. I just don't think that's enough though. That Minnesota deal would allow them to make a run at Demar Derozan though.

2016 Draft picks thread
QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) I understand all this. The Sox approach meant they ended up with less of a share than others, who had the same constraints, and used a different path to more talent in terms of volume of top rated players. So are we less efficient with our dollars, or top heavy, and how do we differ from the teams that have had the best success in the draft since the new system was put in play? I understand how we got to where we got to, but are we laggards in understanding how best to work this system like we are in the international market? Ithe seems like our approach is to put all of our money on the top players and gamble that they'll succeed while hoping one of the cheap buys is a steal. The problem is that the bonus pools at the top of the draft are way too high. That allowed Atlanta and Philadelphia to do what they did. Teams picking where the White Sox are picking don't have that luxury. They could have taken Lux at 10 and signed him for $2 million and someone else at #26 and signed them for $1 million and theoretically landed more players from the top 200. More isn't always better though.

2016 Draft picks thread
QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 11:40 AM) I don't think I necessarily agree. If we are taking less than our share of the top 200 or 500 that means somebody is getting more than their share. If they can do it, why can't we? It's about pool $$. The Sox had like $9.5 million to spend on the draft. Their 1st pick is taking the full $3.3 million allotted, Burdi is probably close to the $2.2 million slot amount there and I would imagine that Hansen is slot as well. You can't just take the BPA on the board each time because guys wouldn't necessarily sign. For example, they took Michael Hickman in round 13. If he's over $100,000 he counts against their overall draft pool. They took 3-4 guys that will be under slot to save some $$ to sign Hickman and probably Ian Hamilton. It has t be done this way. If they took Hickman in round 7 and he doesn't sign, they don't get the player and they lose the ability to spend the money for that allocated slot.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) I know Coats is better than the 3-pitch, 3-swings at balls, strikeout hitter he showed, but I'd rather give Bourgeios a chance if Coats keeps this up I'd just leave Coats up, send Shuck down, and recall Bourgeios.

2015-2016 NBA Thread
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 09:39 AM) Trading Butler for anything other than a top 2 pick in this draft is dumb, even if you get a guy like Wiggins. Why would you trade a franchise player (even a lower end one) for a couple of prospects that percentages say will never pan out? All but about 5 teams in the league continue searching for an all-star quality player to build their team around. The Bulls have one. It would be moronic to let that go. Because Jimmy Butler can't be the best player on a championship team. I'd rather roll with Wiggins and Dunn and the cap relief. I obviously wouldn't do it without Wiggins involved though.
