6/6 Games
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 10:49 PM) He has hit a tiny tiny bit better than Carlos Sanchez, and worse than Leury Garcia at AAA. And his defense isn't better than them. In what universe does it make any sense to bring him up? What are you using to decide that they have hit better? Anderson has a .700 OPS and a 104 wRC. Leary does have a 112 wRC but in 100 less PA. Sanchez is worse.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 08:47 PM) Royals lose. 30-27 Tigers will match the Sox 29-28. Indians missing Felix in Seattle tonight. Hurt himself celebrating. The Royals aren't good. The White Sox had that team f***ing swept too. It's still unbelievable.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 03:14 PM) Obviously you can't see the forest for the trees and are rude to boot. I have no problem with the details of the trade. Decent value no doubt but its the over riding presence of the Sox continuing to deplete their Minor league system and the continued reliance on over the hill vets to try to make the playoffs this year and next with hardly anything to look forward to unless a whole new team of failed minor leaguers and more washed up vets appeals to you. Johnson had value because the Padres thought he did and why you picked 2020 as a date for Tatis is beyond me. He'll be 21 then . There's also the fact that people might think the Shields money ( or any money) might be better spent on the international youngsters while many of the teams who went spend crazy are punished for doing so. Good teams stockpile young talent and have thrown stupid crazy money into the kids from the DR and young Cubans. The Sox do nothing but the bare minimum in that area. But yea go ahead keep looking at the trade in a vacuum for its value for a declining innings eater in a desperate attempt to make the playoffs for a year or 2. This is the team you root for though. This is what they do. They are going for it. They are going for it next year. They aren't rebuilding. I wish they would spend $25-$30 million in the international market but they just don't do it. How did they deplete their system with this move? I'd argue that they could trade Shields in 2 months and acquire more than they gave up. I am looking at it as just what it was. Acquiring a middle of the rotation pitcher for a cheap price because he was available in a year where they think they could make the playoffs. It also doesn't really hamper them going forward. They are in at this point though and basically have no choice but to go for it.

2016 MLB Draft
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 02:55 PM) Appel was a senior with no leverage and signed for underslot, plus he was highly ranked. I think money had a lot to do with it. Take the best player. Don't worry about the other stuff. It's hard enough projecting in baseball anyways, although it is getting better. It worked magically with Correa though. Correa was not seen as the #1 prospect. They took him #1 and got Lance McCullers because of it.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) I wouldn't go so far as to say they are stupid. That is rude and ill informed. It's basically a move for this year and next year. It seems as though many moves the Sox have made have no future beyond 2017 and that's the whole point All have been patchwork moves giving up talented cost controlled youngsters who do have futures that will vary greatly but have a chance to be better. How have all these moves worked out the past few years ? Are the Sox any better now than they might be if they had just kept some of these kids ? Hard to know, but it's just seems as though the Sox are spinning their wheels the past few years while giving the fans nothing to look forward to . They didn't give up anything of note. Tatis is a long shot to make the majors by 2020 and EJ was done here and had no value. They got a solid #3-#4 starter that eats innings and he costs around $10 million per season. That's what those guys cost. He's also an asset moving forward because of how much the Padres are playing. The trade was a no brainer. Complaining about it is in fact quite stupid.

White Sox got an innings eating middle of the rotation starter for below market value and gave up nothing to acquire him. Of course people are angry. People are stupid.

Robin Ventura should be fired today
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 10:48 PM) Does anybody else get the feeling Hawk kind of thinks Robin deserves to get the boot? Do you sense it in his reporting/commentary during games? It seems to me Hawk has seen a lot of bad baseball under Robin and knows Robin, though likeable guy, should be shown the door. I actually agree. He sounds like he's seen enough.

2016 MLB Draft
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) Justin Dunn is another college arm that has major helium of late. Would be my preferred choice if that Sox go the pitching route at 10. Great fastball, solid secondaries, 4 pitch mix, but some command issues at times. Although not tiny, he's a bit under-sized. Always drawn to guys with that label for some reason. If Ray and Rutherford are gone, I'd be fine with Justin Dunn at #10.

Upcoming Homestand Roster Predictions
Will Robin be managing? Will Tim Anderson be called up? The White Sox need to make 2 roster moves. My guess is that they send Coats and Purke to Charlotte. What should happen? What will happen? Go.

Robin Ventura should be fired today
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) Fire him tomorrow. Prove to your fanbase that losing is no longer accepted. Tell the players they are next if things don't get turned in the next 50 days or so. This time it would actually mean something with Ventura out the door. If no changes tomorrow, the public campaign for Rick Hahn's job should begin. The front office & coaching staff can't blame the players every year, at this point there needs to be some accountability on their end as well. Is Rick Hahn allowed to fire him?

Jose Abreu the White Sox Main Problem
The offseason was fine. The additions were solid. If Abreu were playing like his usual self, this team would be in first place. It's that simple.

Your Trade Target Wishlist
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 08:08 AM) In addition to a big bat, we desperately need to upgrade our catcher situation. Outside of Lucroy, what guys are potentially available? I'm really worried this a postion that's going to difficult to addres mid-season. Catcher is fine they upgrade DH and SS and Abreu turns back to normal.

Jose Abreu the White Sox Main Problem
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/2016060..._medium=twitter He's spot on. The White Sox could go out and add Jay Bruce or a comparable LH stick. They could call up Tim Anderson and he could be as advertised. They could trade for Will Smith or another reliever to lock down the bullpen. They could replace Robin Ventura with Rick Renteria. But the problem is that if Jose Abreu continues to be one of the worst players on the team and in the league, this team isn't going anywhere. They have issues. It's a frustrating team for sure. Their main issue though is that Jose Abreu needs to be Jose Abreu. The dude has been terrible and it just can't continue.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 07:02 AM) All of a sudden $27 million is nothing. How much were we short on Alex Gordon, Dexter Fowler, and others? They weren't short on those guys though. They offered them what they felt they worth. What your paying someone else has no bearing on that.

6/4 - White Sox @ Tigers Game Thread
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 07:16 PM) Let's not forget, Hahn is the genius, who, for some inexplicable reason called in a professional front office - Andrew Friedman and the Dodgers - to get Frazier. Dealing with bad GM like Jockety was a fair fight. But he brings in a top shelf negotiator. WTF are you talking about? They had a 3 way deal with Chapman headed to Dodgers that would have sent Frazier to the Sox. Cincinnati didn't want Trayce, Mantas, and Micah. They liked the Dodgers package better for whatever reason.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
Hahn mentioned in Dan Hayes' column the potential to receive a comp pick if Shields opts-out. Does he know something about the new CBA that we don't? I don't think they are eligible for a comp pick because he wasn't on the team for a full season.

I don't think the White Sox wanted Jon Jay. If they did, they'd have him. San Diego was trying to include him in the deal.
