  1. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ May 22, 2016 -> 01:58 PM) Where's the fire with this team? They seemed to be having a lot of fun earlier in the year but I haven't seen much of anything lately. Mentally, it seems like they are really feeling it, too. Teams look lethargic when they don't hit. They don't lack fire. They just can't get on base.
  2. QUOTE (ronkark @ May 22, 2016 -> 01:46 PM) Behind hitters, deep into counts... what new In his defense, pitchers on this team have to be perfect lately or they lose. It's tough

This is a cool idea but it's a bit down my list. I'm reading Jeff Passan's The Arm currently and I'm reading Men Amongst Boys by Jonathan Abrams next. Then I'll get to it. Cool idea though.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 22, 2016 -> 07:51 AM) #Saladinofor2spot Abreu should stay in the #2 spot. Saladino should be playing though. His defense is too good to sit him and Rollins shouldn't play vs RHP. 1. Eaton RF 2. Abreu 1B 3. Cabrera LF 4. Frazier 3B 5. Lawrie 2B 6. Avila C 7. Garcia DH 8. Saladino SS 9. Jackson CF
  5. I feel like the people who thought Fulmer was going to move super fast never watched him pitch. He isn't Sale or Rodon. There are legitimate reasons why many scouts think he's a reliever. He's also not in the SEC anymore. One of my concerns watching him at Vanderbilt was that he didn't throw that many strikes. AA hitters aren't swinging at that s*** and major league hitters definitely aren't. I still wouldn't be surprised to see him in the Sox bullpen to close the year though.
  6. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:24 PM) No he didn't. It was yesterday, right?
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:54 AM) Isn't this one a week old? Possibly? Was it posted already. Callis has his coming out tomorrow.
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:39 AM) That's the second big writer that has tied us to Lux. Interesting. Most scouts think he can stay at SS and has potential for 15 homers per year. First Wisconsin prep to go in quite some time though. His uncle is the head coach at Carthage.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:36 AM) http://m.mlb.com/news/article/177741112/ky...picid=151437456 Jonathan Mayo has the Sox taking Blake Rutherford and SS Gavin Lux in the 1st round. I'd be down with that. If they could get Sean Murphy C from Wright State with the 49th pick, I'd absolutely love that first day.

  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2016 -> 09:44 AM) The other guy who comes to mind listening to Buddy Bell talk about Anderson is Jose Valentin. SO MUCH natural ability and talent, but so many just infuriating plays, combined with amazing plays. Wasn't he compared to Shawon Dunston?
  12. QUOTE (soxfan85 @ May 18, 2016 -> 11:43 PM) What can you even really say, man. It is unfreaking believable. All the jackass had to do was throw strikes. There are so, so many garbage teams in the NL. As a good NL team, you always have the opportunity to right the ship because chances are you have some garbage team coming up in your schedule to get some W's. The regular season in the NL is easier but the playoffs will be way harder.
  13. This slide isn't ideal but it's the reason why the hot start was so imperative. The White Sox are playing bad but are still in 1st place. The rest of the division is full of teams that are flawed like the Sox are. I expect them to be in it until the end and that's more than most people thought before the season. They can't have Mat Latos and Miguel Gonzalez in the same rotation and I think they know that. Need to win today and then go 4-3 vs KC and Cleveland. That would put them at 29-19 which is more than acceptable.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 18, 2016 -> 11:21 PM) He needs a day off. I never thought he would be an everyday player on this team. I don't think he has missed a start all year Why wouldn't he be an everyday player?
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 18, 2016 -> 11:50 PM) Good comparison to the Blackhawks. I would think with the $$$ they are spending and willing to spend and the current talent assembled, Cubs probably are going to win three WS in the next 5-6 years. If they don't win it this year, then there truly is a jinx. Team is head and shoulders better than anybody. I was hopeful the Sox would have this dynamite pitching staff all year and stifle Cubs in WS. However it's all come down to earth like a boulder thrown off a 10 story building. Our pitching ain't anything special after all. Greg, that's not the way it works. You know that. Be smarter. You need to assemble a team to make the playoffs. Whatever happens in the playoffs is a random crapshoot though. Variance trumps everything. If the Sox and Cubs make it to the postseason, the Sox have as good of a chance to win the World Series as the Cubs do.
  16. The Bulls "superstar" doesn't get along with the coach and doesn't want to play his system. I'd rather have Ingram or Simmons. One of those might be good enough to be the best player on a champion. Jimmy Butler isn't.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ May 18, 2016 -> 02:27 PM) They sound nice, but together they were awful, and adding Ben Simmons to an undisciplined young team doesn't scream championship to me. I never said they'd win one. I said they were in a better position to win one going forward than the Bulls are. Which is still true.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 18, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) Drafting Simmons definitely isn't a slam dunk. I'm with you for the most part as there aren't many teams I wouldn't trade places with as a Bulls fan but I'm not really sold on what the Sixers are doing either. Fair enough.
  19. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 18, 2016 -> 01:57 PM) What would this package cost from Milwaukee: RHP Jimmy Nelson, RHP Will Smith, and 1B Chris Carter? I thought Carter was LH. Nevermind.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 18, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) I understand what you are saying, but Philly is still in a state of chaotic flux and really they arent really in a much better position going forward. They still are hoping to count on Embiid, and right now that guy looks like the next Oden They are getting Ben Simmons though, who I believe is a superstar. So they'll have 1 more superstar than the Bulls currently have giving them a better chance going forward. Bulls are in basketball hell.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 18, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) Kind of seems like they arent really keen on keeping one or both of these guys Great. And one of them would bring back something nice that can help you. What tradeable young assets do the Bulls have?
  22. What would this package cost from Milwaukee: RHP Jimmy Nelson, RHP Will Smith, and 1B Chris Carter?
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2016 -> 01:15 PM) Honestly, I don't know that the Sixers are in a better position than the Bulls. Hinkie drafted a bunch of 7 footers, none of whom appear to be total impact players and some of which have had a hard time getting on the court. The Sixers are awful and have been awful for a number of years. I'm not saying the Bulls are great, but things are absolutely possible. Two years ago, no one saw the Warriors turning into the greatest regular season team in NBA history (record wise) and an NBA champion. Would you rather have the Bulls coach, roster, and financial situation or Brent Brown, tons of $$ to spend, and Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, Dario Saric, Jahlil Okafor, and Nerlens Noel?
  24. QUOTE (Lillian @ May 18, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) What the hell do I know? I'm just going off of all of the scouting reports. This is typical: "Scouts are split on whether Anderson can play shortstop in the big leagues. He has the necessary actions and enough arm strength, but his hands aren't especially soft and his footwork is erratic, leading to 78 errors in his first 255 pro games. His tools would profile well in center field if he can't cut it in the infield." Many scouts question whether or not he will be a good enough defender to stick at SS, much less an elite defensive shortstop. Keith Law said he can play SS in the majors right now.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ May 18, 2016 -> 12:53 PM) Until they can win more than 10 games in a year I'll say they are no closer. Hinkie had a good plan but he made a lot of poor decisions that lost him good will, the most basic of which was being a poor communicator of roster moves that pissed off agents, players and his own admin team. Also, I do feel like purposely avoiding competent veterans stunted growth. Players were regressing. That said, they should have let him see it throuhg, especially to hire bryan colangelo, perhaps the worst executive of the 2000s, including new york. You need superstars to win titles. He knows that. The lottery balls just didn't work in his favor. Finally did this time.
