QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 08:32 AM) They don't land big fish, but in this league they have to try. Agree with this. You still have to preserve the space and try. It beats the alternative of giving rotation players $50 million. It's the only choice they have.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) I would have preferred if Durant had gone elsewhere, but the irony of OKC fans whining about having a player of theirs "stolen" has been so awesome. Westbrook is going to leave after next year and that franchise will go into the s***ter. No marquee free agent is going to choose to go live and play in Oklahoma City. It may be petty, but who cares. As a Sonics fan who has never forgiven the league for what they did to Seattle, watching OKC fall into the flames is the next best thing to actually getting a team back. I bet it is. Those people didn't do anything though. It's not the fault of people who live in Oklahoma that Clay Bennett brought them a basketball team. Now, burning jerseys is dumb as hell but Kevin Durant basically just ended their franchise.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 4, 2016 -> 05:35 PM) He won't get much back. He's a FA next summer. What would a non-retarded team give up for 3 months of WB? Not even three months. More like 2 and the playoffs. They don't have a choice but to get something. Lakers wouldn't give up some young players for the chance at keeping him?

I would think that the Thunder will trade Westbrook by February's deadline. There's no way that Sam Presti is going to let both guys leave for nothing.

Top 30 International Prospects; July 2nd 2016
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 4, 2016 -> 06:44 AM) So with only 20 teams eligible to compete for the pedigree talent in the top 30 list this year, the Chicago White Sox were unable to sign anyone of those 30 players? Not one? With no competition from the likes of the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Angels, Cubs and the Giants this year, the Sox still walked away with none of the premium talent available? I mean, that's insane. It's almost bordering on reckless negligence from this increasingly obvious incompetent front office. The Sox continue to display an unwillingness/inability to compete for premium talent, be it either in the international market, or free agent market, as we painfully witnessed last offseason. It would be one thing if that approach somehow managed to render sustainable winning results for the Major League ball club. It hasn't as we all know, not by a long shot. Unless there is a seismic shift in this losing strategy at some point, the brand of baseball we've witnessed for the past decade on the South Side will continue to repeat itself over and over and over again. Focusing on a top 30 list is an exercise in futility though. We have no idea if that top list is actually the top 30 players. They really like Josue Guerrero and gave him $1.1 million. That's more than some guys in the top 30 received.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 3, 2016 -> 11:02 PM) Who thinks the Celtics are actually going to be better than the Cavs in the East? That's really pushing it. Anyone heard exactly when Durant will announce? Supposed to be Sunday night/Monday morning....any rumors? Warriors? OKC? I'd be stunned if it's not OKC

I didn't know there was so much hatred for Rondo. People on twitter were like furious over the signing. It doesn't really matter but the Bulls got better at C and PG and this deal doesn't really hurt them next summer. What did people think they were going to do? Should they have given Tyler Johnson $50 million? I mean for christ sakes.

The April Sox are back
I would love if they could trade for Josh Reddick. Play him in RF and move Eaton to CF. Ajax as 4th OF and Morneau DH. This team would be much better vs RHP.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 3, 2016 -> 08:36 AM) Didn't realize Moore signed elsewhere for a reasonable deal. Bulls moving every enjoyable piece of their franchise. Financial champions. They didn't want to go 4 years and I don't blame them.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) Not sure how you say that's a narrative when it's so plainly observable in instances like these. They've had every opportunity to exploit the loopholes of the J2 system and they haven't. They had such an advantageous position this year and got outworked by the f***ing Padres, Braves, and Athletics. Sure, there are doing better now than before when they didn't sign anyone but none of these kids are blue chippers. When will they sack up and go after the Maitan's or Yadiel Alvarez's of the world? Them not being blue chippers is a stretch. All of these kids are 16. We have no idea who is good and who isn't. You criticizing them for not going over is fair. They just haven't done it.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) It really is. I wanted them to get one of the top ones. Hell the As are cheap but seemingly find a way to get a top one all the time. Do you know that those top guys are better than Josue Guerrero though? Which of their games was your favorite?

Let's Rebuild the Sox
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) I've spent the past few days rebuilding them in my head and on MLB the Show. I traded everyone expect Rodon, Eaton, Anderson. You can only do three player deals in this game so obviously I'd want more for Sale but getting a young impact bat and 2 of their top pitching prospects is a good start. Obviously this team would take its lumps but the future would be very bright. Sale, Jones to LAD for Joc Pederson, Jose De Leon and Grant Holmes Quintana, Robertson to BOS for O; Jackie Bradley Jr, 2B Yoan Moncada and OF Andrew Benintendi Abreu to STL P Alex Reyes, P Luke Weaver and C Carson Kelly Frazier to NYM 1B Dominic Smith and P Marcos Molina Melky Cabrera to TEX for SS/3B Josh Morgan and P Ariel Jurado Didn't trade Lawrie. Kept him because he's still young and playing well for us. Just want to see how everyone on here would do there's (I realize it's not actually happening but I'm doing this for curiosity and entertainment). If you are playing a video game, why don't you just keep the White Sox awesome players and add more players?

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) Jerry just finding new and exciting ways to do things on the cheap. This front office is such a f***ing joke. They have done a solid job on the international market lately and have quietly had some really good drafts. I know it doesn't fit the narrative though.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) Thanks. But I wonder why. That's more than some top 20 guys got. It's because the rankings are nonsense though. Go look at the bonuses. Some guys in top 10 get 700K and guys in the 30's get $1 million. It's very subjective. I mean, Adolfo was #2 prospect according to MLB and not in BA's top 20. Amado Nunez has been studly so far and wasn't a top guy. Nobody knows.

The Bulls do have to spend about $17 million to reach the salary floor. I think they'd like Rondo on a 1-2 year deal but he obviously wants more years. Bulls will be adding players. No idea who and I'd be willing to bet it's on the short term side.

Top 30 International Prospects; July 2nd 2016
Fangraphs writeup on one of the White Sox INTL signings: 24. Luis Mieses, OF, Dominican Republic (Video) Mieses has big-time power projection at a lean but well-framed 6-foot-4 and a natural, low-ball, power-hitting left-handed swing. It’s a corner-only body and skillset but there’s enough arm strength (55) to play right field and he should add at least a half grade there as he matures. He hasn’t shown the ability to square up balls in game as regularly as scouts would like to see from a corner-only prospect but Mieses just turned 16 at the end of May and is one of the younger players in the class, so there’s more tool projection here than on most of the other players. We’re probably talking about 55 or 60 raw power at maturity and as long as Mieses improves his contact skills to a fringe-average level we’re talking about a useful big leaguer.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 11:54 AM) That would be reserved for Mirotic on this board. Noah won a DPOY. There is no season of his career in which he was the best defensive player in the NBA. He has the award though.

Matt Davidson getting called up
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 11:40 AM) They currently have 4 available outfielders Eaton Shuck coats Garcia They can't send him down until they are sure Cabrera is healthy, even then having only 4 outfielders is tricky. i don't think they can send him down until Jackson is ready. At that time it will be who is more effective, coats or Garcia. The bigger question is who they send down when Morneau is ready. The infielders are: Abreu Lawrie Anderson Frazier Saladino Davidson With the way the bullpen is being worked due to the starters pitching short games, I'm not sure they can send a bullpen arm down. I'd send him down and bring Leury Garcia up. At least Leury can steal a bag.
