  1. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/02/orio...i-gallardo.html Orioles will give up the 14th overall pick to sign Gallardo. I'd rather have Latos for $3 million than Gallardo for $$ and a pick. Yuck.
  2. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) If they can get Fowler at 2/20, what the f*** are they waiting for? They aren't waiting. Fowler isn't wiling to accept a deal like that yet. That's why he's not signed.
  3. The bring back Thibodeau people are humorous. Would they have a better record with Thibs? Yes. Would they probably get knocked out of the playoffs in the 1st or 2nd round with either coach? Yes. Tom had his issues. Hoiberg has issues. This is a very flawed roster that doesn't like playing with one another and it was the same way last year.
  4. Pretty good writeup from MLBTR as well: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/02/whit...-mat-latos.html
  5. I heard one story about when he was rehabbing in the minors. Kris Bryant hit a 1st inning homer off of him. He drilled Bryant the next time up. He's a bag. Hawk will love him for sure.
  6. Latos was terrible last year and still put up a 1.5 fWAR with a 3.72 FIP. This is his fWAR by year: 2010: 4.3 fWAR 2011: 3.8 fWAR 2012: 3.1 fWAR 2013: 4.8 fWAR Then he had shoulder surgery.
  7. So now Erik Johnson is traded for an OF?
  8. Great signing. He could find it and realistically be good enough to receive a QO next offseason. Giant douche though. Should be a fun season at least.
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) MLB.com's top thirteen prospects has six OFers and six pitchers. BA's top seventen prospects has 10 pitchers and 6 outfielders. Obviously were a ways a away but the guesses to me are college pitcher or outfielder. Delvin Perez is a Puerto Rican SS that I expect in top 10. I'd rather look at HS bats like: Moniak, Will Benson, or Drew Mendoza instead of taking a pitcher like Jordan Sheffield. If one of the top 4 pitchers were there, that'd be a different story.
  10. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) I think they will continue to get the best pitcher they can in the draft, and then trade some pitching for hitting at some point. They don't seem to have much of an appetite for HS position players and not sure their is a college position guy that has a ceiling to warrant a selection at 10. I disagree. Hostetler mentioned that HS and College bats are the strength. I think they'll take a pitcher with one of their 1st 3 selections but I think #10 is a position player unless a pitcher falls.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) Here are the rules: You get to draft two historical players and a specific year of their career in order to guarantee the current white sox roster gets into the playoffs. Example: 98 Pedro Martinez - SP 96 Griffey Jr - CF Open Considerations: - Despite the fact that you are choosing the best year of a player, translation to current era can be factored in, despite the fact that it may severely undercut this exercise! - Team fit should be considered. Are you going to get 2 awesome position players? 1 pitcher/1 hitter to plug in CF? Are you going to take the world's best 2b regardless, who cares if Lawrie's on the bench? For my draft, I'm thinking going SP/CF, as above, but maybe even: 96 Griffey in CF 85 Dwight Gooden - SP Gooden had 16 complete games in 85, which is the sort of relief which will be a huge help when you have pitchers like Quintana and Rodon who may struggle going late. Also - I never saw him pitch, so want to see 1 player. Griffey in 96 was what I still think of for baseball. Move eaton to RF and deal with Melky in LF. Lineup: Eaton Cabrera Abreu Griffey Frazier Lawrie C Saladino Rotation: Sale Gooden Quintana Rodon Danks/Johnson Alternative mind games: 2 historical White Sox players to put us in the tops. For that I'll go offense alone. I think Billy Pierce would be a fine choice but pre 60s players scare me. 2003 Loaiza seemed soft to me. 94 Thomas - DH 98 Albert Belle- RF Just mash. 99 Pedro and 2015 Bryce Harper
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) If you can get Ladd, you get him. He's a great locker room guy, isnt that old and is a fit on the top line. Completely agree. Would be a huge addition.
  13. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) I am not sure that the Cubs are really going to jump in and create their own station, I think they would really struggle to find quality programming, even MLB and BTN struggle to find a lot of solid programming. I think the threat of creating their own network is more of a negotiating ploy to increase the value of their next TV contract and bring a "wildcard" bidder into the mix. They are absolutely going to get their own network. That's the plan.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 08:10 AM) He seems to think the hawks have less than 1 million in Cap space. Also I keep forgetting how young Shaw is, it seems like hes been around forever. So that Zawaski piece had the wrong numbers in it: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/02/08/zaw...wks-jets-trade/ That outlines how getting Ladd is completely feasible.
  15. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) There is NO F###ING WAY I would ever root for the Cubs. Even if my son played for the Cubs, I would not root for the Cubs. Seems a little extreme
  16. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 07:43 PM) What would it take to get Ladd, Tony? Zawaski wrote a column outlining how they could get Ladd: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/02/08/zaw...wks-jets-trade/
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) My bad, you are right. no need to yell haha I didn't mean to capitalize the O.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) Packers paid him NO they didn't. They paid DL Mike Daniels. Mike Neal is an OLB that Bears had interest in last season.
  19. QUOTE (scs787 @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 11:18 AM) I'm excited for the off-season as a whole. Bears can do some serious damage if everything breaks right. Give me Trevethon and Kelechi Osemele in FA. (Malik Jackson would be nice as well but I'm not sure they can get all 3.) Using This 4 round mock from NFL.com, I would then like.. 1. Myles Jack LB UCLA- Jack paired with Trev would give the Bears the same type of dynamic the Broncos had with Trev and Marshall. It would also eliminate what I thought was the biggest hole in the defense, and that's the middle of the 2nd level in the passing game. 2. Adolphus Washington DL OSU- Rock, does he have the strength to play the 5 in a 3-4? He's got good length, and he certainly looked impressive at the senior bowl......This draft has Nkemdiche falling to the 2R. Washington has a red flag as well, but he seems rather mature in the way he's owned up to it. 3. Jalen Mills S/CB LSU- This kid was on point in one on one drills at the senior bowl. He played S last year but has previously played CB. I think the Bears bring Porter back, play Mills at FS, then reevaluate the following year(or after an injury) where they want Mills. I think hes solid at both. 4. Harlan Miller CB SE Lou- Even if the do bring back Porter, CB is paper thin. Fuller, Porter, and Callhoun looked solid at times, but past that there's a lot of suck. Miller is yet another guy who really stood out at the senior bowl. DL- Washington-Goldman-Ego LB- McPhee-Jack-Trev-Houston CB- Fuller-Porter-Callhoun-Miller S- Amos-Mills. I like that D. Jack and Trevathan both would play Jack LB spot under Fangio. I honestly hope the Bears can take Jaylon Smith at 11. He's reportedly going to be back in season and if so would be excellent pick at #11. I think the Bears will trade Bennett and end up with 10-11 draft picks. Some free agents to possibly target: LB Danny Trevathan, DL Malik Jackson, OLB Mike Neal, CB Leonard Johnson, OL Brandon Brooks. I think they get one of the free agent TE's as well: Dwayne Allen or LaDarius Green.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) They could, but won't. They have plenty of picks and young talent if they wanted to package it up. No chance. Boston could trump any offer the Bulls could make for either player.
  21. The White Sox have always been interested in Puig so it's not that surprising.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 09:13 AM) A teams definition of "worth" is directly tied to its ability to spend. "Worth" to the Dodgers is not the same as "worth" to the White Sox. I suppose. My point was that the Sox might think that Fowler is worth something like 3/35 with a comp pick attached. Not sure why that would change if they happened to have more $$ laying around.
  23. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 08:45 AM) LMAO! Oh Dick, sometimes I think YOU'RE a figment of my imagination, because I can't believe how many times you jump into a conversation and completely take it off topic just for the sake of taking the opportunity to throw one of your uninteresting insults into the mix. But that's ok, you're having fun, I guess, but now let's see if we can't reel you back into what we were actually talking about before you entered the fray. If you'll notice, Dick, the topic of this thread has to do with the potential acquisition of one Dexter Fowler by the White Sox. Two regular posters here seem to think that perhaps an obstacle to acquiring Mr. Fowler's services are current budget constraints that may be in place. I happen to think that's not the case, based on "actual words" said by the General Manager at Soxfest. Actual words, Dick, not one's imagined. Quoth Mr. Hahn: “Let me make something really clear: There is absolutely no hardline, dogma, limit on contract terms with free agents. The reason we didn’t sign any of the hitters that thus far have signed elsewhere at the end of the day is not about contract term limitations. We had numerous conversations, with various parameters, various structures, right up until the day or the day before these players wound up choosing their ultimate destinations.” Now, what I took from that statement is that Mr. Hahn was insisting we were making competitive offers to those available premium free agents at that point in time. And my point is, any competitive offer we would have made for any of the big FA outfielders would be much larger than anything we would remotely offer Fowler. So if the Sox were able to make said offers to the Cespedes, Gordon, and perhaps Upton, then obviously the team isn't operating under these alleged budget constraints, as "rumored", or else they wouldn't have made those offers. Thus, we may be negotiating with Fowler for a deal that the team seems to believe is more reflective of the guy's actual market value, but not because the cupboard is bare and we're down to our last pennies. Not signing Fowler isn't a matter of budget constraints. It's a matter of "worth". The White Sox think that Fowler + forfeiture of top 30 draft pick is worth X amount. Fowler and his people don't agree, therefore Fowler isn't signed. That's all this is. The White Sox should not offer more than they are willing to offer just because fans are angry that they haven't done anything.
  24. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 7, 2016 -> 11:35 PM) Quality rebuttal. I think your opinion is wrong. I'm not going to argue it further because I think it's stupid and a waste of my time.
