  2. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 10:07 AM) Too early to make sweeping generalizations about recent drafts? You just called Fuller a cornerstone player after playing in less than one season. Very good point. My bad. I do a lot of NFL Draft work in my free time as a hobby though and I think Fuller was the best CB in the draft. His early success was not a surprise to me because I broke down like 5-6 of his games. I think Kyle Fuller will prove to be a cornerstone player. Should have stated it differently.
  3. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 09:43 AM) If the bears are lacking in talent it falls on emery now, he has had three years to make progress on building the team and he has not. From this draft they have one player contributing, Fuller, two if you count the punter who is no great shakes. The defensive linemen may turn out but it has not shown so. Vareen and Carey have shown nothing, Leno allowed the PAT to be blocked yesterday and that is the first I have ever heard his name. Bostic, Brown, Mills, Washington and Wilson have not done anything to show they are anything better than just guys. Bostic has some talent but he misreads every play. Greene looks to have some talent. One player from the 2012 draft, Jefferey is the only hope there. McClellain is still on the team because he was a first round pick. Through three drafts he has Long and Jeffrey and hopefully Fuller who I hope is hurt because he has done little or nothing the last few weeks. He may be able to blame the coaching staff for not developing players but he hired them. He also was a reach hire as well. I disagree with much of this. It's too early to make sweeping generalizations about recent drafts. It's also lazy scouting. The Bears are in this position because of years and years of bad drafting by Jerry Angelo. The only way to get out of the mess is by years and years of good drafting by Phil Emery or whoever else. Just the way it is.
  4. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 09:15 AM) There are bad football teams every year but the Bears are not coached they are simply not coached at all. Football is a good amount of game planning and coaching and you can tell the Bears have none of it. This is not a talent issue it is a coaching issue. Special Teams, Offense and Defense. From Ted Phillips on down they should all go and even if they do, they will replaced by a new set of incapable cheap options. Emery should have been fired after the Shea Mc pick, he got lucky with Long and really blew the coaching search worse thing I have seen since the Mike Smith / Alpo Blackhawk days. Emery's 1st draft was really bad. He only has Alshon Jeffery to show for it. That being said, Jeffery is a cornerstone player. The 2nd draft was better. Long is a stud. Bostic will be a starting caliber player at his natural WLB position as well. Greene looks like a bad pick but the Mills, Washington, and Wilson picks were all good with where they were taken. This past draft was his best so far. Fuller is another cornerstone player. Ferguson and Sutton should be defensive contributors for a long time. The book is still out on Brock Vereen and Charles Leno. Fales was a bad pick and I'd never ever draft a punter. They also snagged Christian Jones as an UDFA and he looks like he could develop into a nice player. Some bad picks, but Emery has also drafted 1 cornerstone player in each draft. His issues have been that 1st draft as a whole and hiring Marc Trestman. I agree with signing Cutler and Marshall so I'm not going to criticize those decisions now. I believe that Emery dumps the entire coaching staff and stays on board for the near future. He can't afford to go 1 more year with Trestman because if it's bad again, he's gone as well. Just my thoughts.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 09:10 AM) I think part of it is linked to Jay's reputation in the City and his mental state. It seems like whenever Jay falls under some criticism, they dial the offense back to the short passes to protect his psyche. Otherwise, he tends to start just winging the ball all over the place, interceptions ensue, and it just sort of snowballs. That is really my only explanation, other than Trestman just not having a clue how to make adjustments. There are many reasons. WR injuries early in the year. Penalties. The OL has been pretty bad. Cutler is a good QB but not a great QB that will rise above all else when everything else is bad. The play calling has been really bad as well. No speed threat. No semblance of a running game and no interest in having one. Too many turnovers. This is an extremely poorly coached team that lacks talent in many areas dating back to bad drafting. Many, many issues.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 03:00 PM) One- who the hell are JJ, Simone, Adam, and Brittany? Two- I am curious how they deal with what happened to Diem during shooting My early pick is Jordan and Sarah They are from Are You The One.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 08:09 AM) Yes, as in when the Red Sox call about Sale, Hahn says that the package starts with Pedroia, Nava and Owens, and then the conversation is over. I would start it with Betts, Bogaerts, and Owens but yes.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 06:32 AM) Random text from my bro-in-law from CA last night, "This Conte guy is terrible" Sums it up perfectly. Conte is the best Safety on the roster too. Think about that.

The Challenge: Battle of the Exes II starts in January. Ryan Knight and Diem Brown are both in it.
  10. If the draft played out like that I'd probably take Bickford or Daz Cameron.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 12:39 PM) When Sale pitches at home, it's $20, $15 on Sundays with a t shirt to sit in the K-Zone.(Or anywhere else you may find yourself) And that it is never sold out, shows the whiney Sox fans who use excuses about pricing and lower deck excess, are just full of hot air. Every time the White Sox come up with something that cancels out a common complaint, like the upper deck (fixed), the blue seats, (fixed), cheap lower deck access (fixed) they come up with something else. As someone who goes to a lot of games, I prefer it not crowded myself, it is pretty comfortable. Sacrificing comfort for a better team though is an easy call. Dick this is a great point. I love the fact that I can buy tickets for cheap the day of the game and head out with nobody there. I would gladly pay more $$ and sit with 40,000 people if the team was awesome though.
  12. I saw Sale vs Scherzer last year $7. Tickets really aren't that expensive at all. If you are bringing kids and a wife or GF and buying a ton of s*** then yes it's expensive but not much more expensive than going to the movies is.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) Yes...it's nice Jimmy Butler worked out because otherwise we only have snell and teague to point to (kind of unfair since Snell actually played a lot last year). Butler and Mirotic were taken in the same draft. Really good picks. Bulls have a chance to do it again because they will probably have 2 1st rounders next year as well.
  14. Take it up with Jonah Keri on twitter. He answered some of my questions yesterday.
  15. Mayo and Callis predicted the top 10 for the 2015 draft today. Interesting read. I don't love the direction either of them went for the White Sox though. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/103053582/ca...015-draft-picks Here's their top 50 as well: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2015/#list=draft
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 10:24 AM) Seems like they are still hitting him up per the response I got from my guy, so they aren't giving up on the Vest. He does have a show cause until the end of 2016. Rock, do you think Kill ends up at Nebraska?
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 10:31 AM) and hoping Rondon will be on next years! Rodon. But yes.
  18. Jonah Keri's Trade Value Column is out on grantland.com. It's a really great piece. Chris Sale, Jose Quintana, and Jose Abreu are all very good for the record, haha. http://grantland.com/features/2014-mlb-tra...ankings-part-1/ http://grantland.com/features/2014-mlb-tra...ankings-part-2/
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 03:01 PM) Merkin has extra time to write this winter, since he doesn't have a bowl game to go to. ND fan making fun of Michigan seems petty
  20. If Derrick Rose or Cutler hurt themselves falling at a concert......OMG
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 10:49 AM) They can go ahead and pay him 23 mil a year for 6 years. Be my guest. I think it will be 6 years and $150 million.
  22. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) How do you know that was a bad deal for Donaldson. Beane and company is pretty good at seeing something in players and making something of them. They generally always have good pitching. I saw some where that the pitcher graveman they got should slide right into the rotation next year. If you look at his stats he went from A ball to A+, AA, AAA and the majors last year. The ss prospect was pretty good and Brett Lawrie has had a very high ceiling but has been hurt. Beane is banking on getting him off the turf from Toronto and thinking that should keep him healthy and contributing. It's a bad deal because they traded 4 years of a 5 WAR 3B for 2 back end starters, a 19 year old bat first 2B, and Brett Lawrie. They could have gotten way more than that. Donaldson is a stud. If Beane really wanted Tim Anderson like everyone thinks, Donaldson is a guy that you'd consider trading him for.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 09:22 AM) There's no reason for the A's to trade Samardzija if they're not getting a high level talent back. A team in competition this year should be willing to give up a top prospect in exchange for a season of a pitcher who put up 4 WAR last year. There's no reason for Beane to accept less than a high level talent. Certainly not as high as what he gave up to get Samardzija, but still a very high level guy. Of course, there was no reason for him to give up Donaldson for the weak haul he got, so maybe the White Sox could get a steal here and maybe that's why they were in this conversation in the first place, but "assuming Billy Beane doesn't make another silly move" seems like a reasonable standard from my POV. Yeah I get what you mean. The White Sox won't be getting him if that's the case though. Billy Beane isn't going to get Tim Anderson from the Sox. Are the Red Sox going to give up a top 35 prospect for Samardzija? My guess is no. Beane will either take less than that, trade him at the deadline, or ride out the year and take the comp pick. I think Samardzija goes at the Winter Meetings.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 09:48 AM) yeah, i bet he doesn't see as Hahn as a shrewd GM and will try to take advantage of him. I think this is totally false. Hahn is very well respected.
