  1. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 04:36 AM) I knew that would come out of the draft pool, I just thought they would loose the $ associated with the pick since the pick was forfeited. I think we are talking about the same thing. Lets pretend that the Sox 1st round pick is worth $3.2 million. Their 2nd round pick pool is $1 million and their bonus allotment is $6.5 million. The Sox gave up their 2nd round pick so now they don't have the 2nd rounder or the ability to spend that $1 million on the draft. Now they have $5.5 million to spend and no 2nd round pick. The White Sox include their draft spending in their overall budget though. They can't spend the $1 million on draft day but they can reallocate that figure into the ML payroll.
  2. Dan Hayes of CSN has mentioned Rasmus as a possible LF option still.
  3. Andrew Heaney for Dee Gordon and his .324 .OBP? What the hell are the Marlins doing?
  4. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:58 PM) Still don't believe it. Posturing. Yeah I agree. Shelling out $56 million for a closer and a 1 year rental SP doesn't make sense if they don't have the coin to upgrade the lineup any further.
  5. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:57 PM) Dan Hayes said that the team keeps the $1M associated with the second round pick. Dan Hayes said that they can reallocate that $1 million elsewhere. It does come out of the draft pool though.
  6. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:42 AM) I think that they lost the money tied to the second round pick, so their pool is smaller. I have my fingers crossed that Brendon Rodgers falls to them. I think they will go under slot in the 1st round actually. They lose the ability to spend that bonus $$ for the 2nd round selection. Probably somewhere around $1.5 million.
  7. I knew it was going to be Michael Ynoa. Kenny Williams has always wanted Ynoa. I wish I would have posted it 10 mins ago when I thought about it.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) They just picked up that catcher from the Marlins who takes up a 40 man spot right? Yeah. They will clear 2 40 man spots with Bassitt and Semien going though. Add Robertson and Shark and it's back at 40.
  9. I'm going to predict Andrew Mitchell as the 3rd piece going to Oakland. No inside info. Just a guess.
  10. This doesn't change anything with Rodon. Leave him down to get the extra year of control. Don't worry about Super II status, but the extra year is key. I'd start him in Birmingham with the rest of our prospects. Get him a few starts in Charlotte and get him to the big leagues by June.
  11. I hate the contract. Love the pitcher. I'll get over it because it's not my money though.
  12. I thought that Semien profiled best as a utility player and Bassitt as a reliever so I think this is an awesome deal. Getting Samardzija to extend would put White Sox in contention for a long time. I was hoping that a package like this was all that it would take but I was skeptical. Great thread guys.
  13. If they move Danish, the org must feel like he's a reliever long term.
  14. I'd much rather have KRod on a short-term deal than Robertson for $50 million.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 01:34 PM) But of course, just signing James Shields for comparable money while holding Alexei makes us even better than that. Right but I'd rather have Samardzija than Shields at this point. Shields is 33 years old and will be getting a 5 year deal. No thanks.
  16. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 12:48 PM) Meh. He doesn't have much of a track record and that's probably above market value for a #5. I think they could lose this deal quite easily. Surely could go either way though. Could be. That's not very much money if he pitches close to what he did last year. Obviously a candidate for regression though. Like it much better in the NL.
  17. Jason Hammel back to the Cubs. 2 year $18 million. 3rd year option. Really good deal for them.
  18. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 09:37 AM) Some who've spoken with Oakland re: Samardzija don't expect the A's to grant a negotiating window to any interested team. https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/541978259609505794 I'd rather not have the negotiating window. The price will be less for a 1 year rental.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 7, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) Yet had FSU or OSU lost yesterday, Baylor would have benefited from NOT having a title game. Everyone is talking about The Big 12 going to a title game. I think it's a worthwhile gamble to not have one. For instance, if Ohio State and Florida State lose this weekend, Baylor and TCU probably both get in giving the Big 12 the chance to be represented twice. With a title game, you are only being represented once. Now would you rather have the title game and most likely put 1 representative in the tournament most years or would you gamble that you may have 2 undefeated teams or 1 loss teams at some point in which you have two representatives? I think the conference could decide to continue to not have a title game.
  20. Okay so be ready to call me out. I have long been a draft pick defender and advocate of not signing players with QO's attached. I'm still not advocating doing so but pondering a strategy. If the Sox sign David Robertson and give up their 2nd round pick, would it benefit to dip back into free agency this year for another QO free agent? If they were to sign two players with QO's, they would be giving up their 2nd and 3rd round picks. While just writing that statement makes me cringe a little bit, does it make sense to do it at this point?
  21. Would the White Sox receive any sort of compensation at all? I know that Friedman just left for the Dodgers. When Epstein went to the Cubs, why did the Red Sox get compensation for that?
  22. I hope we get Alabama vs Ohio State and Mariota vs Jameis. That'd be awesome.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 6, 2014 -> 04:47 AM) We get Daz Cameron then eventually trade him for Nicholas Konerko. I was waiting for someone to make the joke. I'm sure it wouldn't matter but doesn't Mike Cameron hate the White Sox organization? Is hate too strong of a word? I remember his 4 HR game and him talking about it because he never wanted to be traded.
  24. Brief snippet from Jayson Stark 10 trade candidates column sums up nicely from an executive exactly why Quintana has more value than Hamels: "Here's my take," said an official of one club that has traded an ace in the not-so-distant past. "I think the Phillies can make a good trade for Cole Hamels. I don't think it will be a grand slam. If he was making $5 million a year, then they might get a grand slam. But he's not. I think they can make a good trade, one that makes sense for both teams. But I think there are too many different starting-pitcher options available for a team to give up the kind of prospects they're asking and pay that money. Teams don't have to do that right now. And they're not going to do that."
  25. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/12/05/lev...-for-white-sox/ Interesting that Samardzija had mentioned interest in White Sox to Levine in the past.
