Kiley McDaniel / Fangraphs Top ChiSox Prospects
Y2Jimmy0 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
I love that Fangraphs hired Kiley McDaniel. He does such a great job. I was actually excited to read his write-ups of other teams' prospects so you could imagine how happy I was today haha. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 08:38 AM) I am just torn on Miller. There's no doubt that he has the stuff, but 2014 was the first time he really harnassed his control. If that wildness comes back, he's just another reliever. Given that someone always overpays for bullpen help, I feel like the price will end up way too high for me to want the Sox to sign him. Yep. Give me Zach Duke and Luke Hochevar for the price of Andrew Miller.

Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 06:51 PM) Syndergaard/Wheeler are top dollar for Alexei. Harvey won't happen. I sure hope the Mets think Syndergaard had a down year. I'll take those PCL stats and have Syndergaard become our fourth #1/#2 type. It'd be very tough for me to want to trade Alexei but Syndergaard would do it. Again, despite all these rumors this week, I really doubt the Sox trade Alexei. I understand everyone's concern about dealing Ramirez but if they can snag Syndergaard or Wheeler they have to make the trade. While I disagree with the premise of their Cuddyer move, I don't think that Sandy Alderson is an idiot. Cuddyer isn't going to be the only thing the Mets do this offseason. Cuddyer alone just doesn't make any sense. Get them to overpay. -
Victor Martinez Re-signs with Tigers

Victor Martinez Re-signs with Tigers

Here was my issue with VMart: A 4 year deal is crazy because of age. I wouldn't have wanted to give up a high 2nd round pick for a short 2 year deal either. -

Speculation about Mike Shanahan to the Bears has already started. It will cost you roughly $38 million to dump Cutler. I would imagine that he will still be here. Shanahan is a name that we will be hearing more about I'm sure. -
Anyone think the White Sox will have interest in this guy? He should be posted. Obviously he played in the Korean league. He is 27 years old. He hits RH. He's 6'0, 180 pounds. He plays SS/3B. AVG- .360 OBP-.463 SLG-.756 38 HR 107 RBI Here is a snippet from Keith Law who has Kang as his 15th rated Free Agent: Kang seems to have split scouts into two disparate camps: Those who see a power-hitting middle infielder, and those who see an unathletic corner guy whose power won't translate outside of Korea. I'm closer to the former camp, as I see a swing that will generate legit plus power even once he leaves his hitter-friendly home park in the Yangcheon District of Seoul. Kang has a huge leg kick and gets his lead foot down late, which could create timing issues, but the swing is rotational, and I don't think the power surge he has had the past three years is strictly a function of the rising level of offense in the KBO. It's a power swing more than a hitting-for-average swing, which makes it somewhat more important that he stay in the middle infield. He's not as fleet afoot as you would want a shortstop to be, but he has good enough hands and gets good reads off the bat, making up for some deficiencies with a 60 arm. While MLB teams are probably looking for more pure range in their shortstops now, I'd give Kang every chance to show he can handle the position, especially given the scarcity in the middle infield in this free-agent crop. He'll be posted under the old highest-bidder system, rather than the capped system now in place for NPB free agents. I'd guess at a winning bid of $15-20 million. Here is some youtube footage of Kang: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYp6zt627oA

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 05:03 PM) to tell you the truth, i have high hopes for him. can be #3 sp at best #2. the sox lucked out with him. even if the sox missed out on several players who were targeted at the 2nd rd. but montas should be higher. Adams has front of the rotation upside with his stuff. Many people had Spencer Adams rated in the 20's. Pretend that the Sox were picking #26 overall and took Adams. Don't you think he'd be in the top 5?

As much as I'd love Moncada, it's a pipe dream with Jerry Reinsdorf as the owner of the franchise. I hope I'm wrong.

Urlacher tweeted last night that the players shouldn't have been in late in the game. I found that humorous. This coming from the same guy that defends Lovie endlessly. The same Lovie Smith who allowed Urlacher to play in a meaningless week 17 game against Minnesota a few years ago to chase an 8-8 record. On that final play, Brian Urlacher tore ligaments in his knee. Brian Urlacher was never the same player again. I think Urlacher is the best LB in franchise history. He is a very stupid human though. -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 08:35 AM) Julius Peppers PFF grade yesterday was +7.0. Peppers was pretty good. Bears still made the right call. Can't pay him $18 million. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) He was on the news this morning and sad he's trained to hold onto the rope if he falls. He can do so for up to 20 minutes. People on either side of the cable are trained to get to him within 90 seconds. He has a harness and everything for them to use to secure him so it's not like he has to dangle there. Incrediblyl dangerous still, but it's not like they haven't though of SOME contingencies. But yes, that entire thing was boring. Luckily I talked my wife into just watching the last half hour (when he started). She wanted to watch the whole damn thing. Also, the "thank you God for giving me this gift," "God put me on the Earth to do this," etc. crap was annoying. No, moron, God did not select you personally to walk on a damn cable for a living. Yeah if he was being helped by a higher power, I think he should have just walked on air then. Don't even use the wire.

QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) If you think the coaches are the only problem, you are very wrong. When you play this badly, the problems are very, very widespread. I'd look to the team leaders on offense and defense - likely Cutler and Briggs - as tremendous failures in their positions as well. Of course, the largest problem is that the players aren't good enough. As a whole though, I think the Bears might have a better roster than Green Bay does. The Packers are much better at QB. Their coaching staff is better. The Bears are better at WR, TE, RB, and on the OL. Bears DL is better. GB is better at LB and in the secondary. Ted Thompson's drafting is vastly overrated. They have Aaron Rodgers and boy does he cover up a lot of warts. The Packers aren't even a playoff team with a replacement level QB. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) I'd like their reasoning on why the #1 team has to go on the road for a state semifinal. "Well, because it's not fair that they've had more home games/" Um, yes it is. THEY'RE #1!!! I was on two state title teams at Lockport in 2002 and 2003. We were always on the road late in the playoffs. You just deal with it. It is a dumb rule though.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) I know it's been that way for at least since I was in hs. What's their reasoning behind that? Here's what they do and I hate it: If a team has not had a home game yet, they get the home game. If both teams have had a home game and one team was on the road the previous week then they host. If both teams hosted a playoff game the previous week, it goes to the higher seed. It's dumb. It's the way it's always been though.

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 06:03 AM) thanks that prob took some nerve - way to go. ummmm anyone can read into that lack of response. did he get something not to say on certain things, did the front office gave him instructions, was it so bad (his D) that he didn't want to say anything? I am sure more can be read it his lack of an answer. No. Nothing can be read into it. He just didn't choose to answer it. His defense will be fine. Not great. Not terrible. But his offense will carry him. Seeing Anderson at some point in 2016 is realistic.

Prices depend on games, some sell face value, some obviously wont (Cavs etc). Can you check on: Wednesday January 14 vs Washington, Friday February 27 vs Minnesota, and Thursday March 5 vs OKC. Thanks, man.

If it's Rosenthal it's probably true. He is one of Kenny Williams' go to guys to get stuff out there. Not saying that was done here but there have been instances in the past where he's given Rosenthal info. -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 07:58 AM) That is interesting. Wow, he just started to switch hit!!! I did check his split stats at Kannapolis, and while they were still better from the right side, they weren't as dramatically different. If he has been able to make as much progress as he has, just learning to hit from the left side, that is very encouraging. This guy must be a pretty gifted athlete. The scouts rave about his defense. Has anyone seen him play? How is his arm? He's as good of a defensive SS as you'll find in the minors. There are some clips on youtube and countless articles from prospect guys. Keith Law raved about him and said if he hits above the Mendoza Line he'll have a big league career. Nathaniel Stoltz from fangraphs is also a huge fan.
