Obviously it was mentioned in some surveys, and obviously it is a big part of things, but not as big as they thought it would be. I still have to think that winning does matter. The White Sox were in 1st place when this survey was given. It's pretty tough for those fans to use the winning excuse when the team is in 1st place. I'd like to see if it would be in the top 4 when the team is bad.

I understand your point but it could sway a young fan in my opinion. I have White Sox and Cubs fans in my family. I could have gone either way. When I was a kid, Frank Thomas came up. I am a White Sox fan because of Frank Thomas. What if a guy like Courtney Hawkins is awesome. If the Sox affilaite was in say Schaumburg, it is possible that a young kid could reasonably have Hawkins (or any other spect) as his/her favorite player. I know that isnt a scenario that is extremely common but it is reasonable.

Earlier in the thread people were talking about trading one of the bad OBP guys. Can Carlos Sanchez play SS? Will he hit enough? If the Sox could get a nice return for Alexei, is it worth it to go with Sanchez and save money to re-sign guys?

Good moves in my opinion. Hawkins was raking at Kannapolis and this is a way to get him more at bats. He was probably slated to start at Winston Salem next year anyways with a great shot at finishing in Birmingham as a 19 year old. Trayce going to AAA to help for playoffs most likely. Dan Johnson will be headed to Chicago. Wouldn't be surprised to see Thompson back in AA to start the next season still though.

I have some reservations about Marcum pitching at the USCF but it would be an end of the year rental. I wonder if Kenny is interested, if he'd even pass through waivers, and what Milwaukee wants in return. My guess is that he doesn't get past the NL.
