QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) Only before July 2. Yes, thanks for the clarification. I was aware but I should have stated that fact in my post.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 01:16 PM) That sounds good and all, but I think it is important to remember that this is a business first and foremost elrockin, Peter Gammons tweeted on Friday that the White Sox offered Soler somewhere between $25-30 million. If they offered that much to Soler, the same may be available for this kid.

Sox have a change in rotation for Cubs series.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 09:40 AM) We bought for Wednesday JUST to see Sale pitch. Wtf. And my dad hates Floyd. I feel ripped off. Yeah that sucks. I bought tickets for the Friday game today because Sale is starting. Then shortly after that, Gonzalez tweeted that Sale would start if Floyd pitched in relief today. I would not have gone to see Gavin. -
QUOTE (Sockin @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) It seems the Sox also bid quite a large sum of money on Mr. Soler. https://twitter.com/pgammo/status/213736894083760128 Yeah I saw this on twitter. I wonder if this means that they are finally getting it or even if they have more money to spend than was initially thought.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) Some might say it doesn't end there. Jaramillo is probably a fine hitting coach. He is just not an approach fit with what Epstein wants. They have preached OBP at every level and have improved at every level except with the ML Club. Now, I realize that the team is horrible and a hitting coach cannot change the way veteran players approach hitting, but Jaramillo is not a preacher of OBP so why bother continuing the relationship?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) I think swapping Floyd for DeLaRosa wouldn't be horrible, except for the fact we should wait for Gavin to go on his run for 2 months and see if we can get something even better. Kind of a change of scenery move, two pitchers with great stuff but suspect mental games. Marcum's much more doable than Greinke, but what are we willing to give up to get him? If his average fastball's only been 86-88 MPH this season, that would be a bit of red flag...but I haven't seen him pitch this year to make any type of comment on the movement or his K/9 rate. Can you imagine Sale, "The Franchise" Liriano and "good" Danks together in one rotation? Man the Brewers gave up Brett Lawrie for Marcum. Bad.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 01:29 PM) Lots of people reporting, no dollars yet. At least he stays in town though. I'd rather have him on the Cubs than for an American League rival.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 10, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) No one is drooling over a 28 year old with no position and no track record of hitting, other than a power surge last year in limited time against favorable matchups. Who are you referring to? Not Trayce Thompson right.....he is 21 years old...
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 06:00 PM) I wouldn't even do Mitchell for Volquez straight up. No f***ing way. Not sure that I'd even do it with Quintana. Jake, I agree with you I think. I would not do Mitchell for Volquez straight up either because of the injury concerns. I'd consider it if Headley were involved though. What is Trayce Thompson's trade value? I like the idea of Volquez working with Cooper and being able to spin Floyd then after. But I know how bad the Sox system is and that money will be a concern.
-
QUOTE (sunofgold @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 12:01 PM) I am rethinking this. if we were only to get one player, I would say get another starter. Only Sale and Peavy and Quintana are pitching well. and Q might go back to minors. And I don't know how many innings you are going to get out of Sale or Peavy. Rotation could get very thin by End of August if not earlier. Get a trusted starter and try Humber at long relief. Use Q as your insurance starter.Hope Danks and Floyd pitch closer to their career averages. I agree that a starting pitcher is the biggest need. Anyone interested in an Edison Volquez? How much would that cost?

GT: Astros (Lyles) @ Sox (Sale), 6/9 3:10 PM

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 12:09 PM) I doubt it. Danks may have immediately became our best bench player. Danks gets the nod in LF. The Sox need a win today and then hopefully can beat Lucas Harrell tomorrow. Danks is intriguing. He always had a big time strikeout problem but was hitting .302 with a .419 .OBP at Charlotte. I know he did not really face any good LHP at AAA but we will see. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 01:07 PM) Officially official now Chicago White Sox @whitesox #WhiteSox have placed outfielder Kosuke Fukudome on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 4) with a strained right oblique. In a corresponding move, the #WhiteSox have purchased the contract of outfielder Jordan Danks from Class AAA Charlotte. Danks, the younger brother of #WhiteSox pitcher John Danks, is hitting .302 w/ 15 doubles, 8 HR & 28 RBI in 57 games with Charlotte. Danks, who will wear uniform No. 20, has no major-league experience. Scott Merkin @scottmerkin Jordan Danks is considered the best defensive outfielder in the organization, not just Minors. Teammates raved about Jordan's defense With Viciedo, Rios and De Aza hitting, Jordan will be more of a defensive replacement/pinch-runner. But he has improved with the bat Fukudome couldn't really do anything baseball-related since the injury suffered in Sunday's game. Danks also a .419 OBP at Charlotte. That is quite the improvement for him. However, he does not face quality LHP ever with all of it being at AA or the majors.

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 01:01 PM) Brandon Brennan RHP The guys on MLB.com really liked Brennan. Said he sits 93-94 and needs refinement on the change and slider but has upside as a quality starter if he does so.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) I can't see the Sox paying that kind of coin to a guy with a real chance at losing two years of development. Yeah. Unless Ventura has a ton of influence you are probably right on. It's just not a move they'd typically make. At #13 or #48.
-
QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 12:36 PM) Giolito came out of the chute in December and January throwing 95-99 mph and showing off a long-toss regimen that "makes Trevor Bauer's long toss look like kid stuff," in the words of one scout. He pitched between 92-99 through February, sitting comfortably at 94-96. Then he sprained his ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow in early March, ending his season and turning him into something of a wild card for the draft. Doctors worked with him on strengthening target areas during his rehabilitation, and he started throwing on flat ground by early May, with a plan to start throwing from 90 and 120 feet in the weeks leading up to the draft. May need Tommy John Surgery down the road. Robin Ventura does know him well. It has been rumored that he wants to go pro. Keith Law has stated that if were running the Astros, he would take him #1 overall. It's worth a shot at #48. I'd even do it at #13 if they knew for sure that he'd sign. I am always willing to roll the dice on a future ace. Many have clamored for Stroman and I like him too. But even if Giolito has arm surgery, his innings as a starter will be much more valuable than if Stroman is a career reliever. The Sox will probably take Heaney or Wacha and make this a moot point anyway though.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 08:46 AM) No. Byron Buxton not Victor Roache. And there were never really any concrete links to Roache. Just one or two super early draft projections with no sourced information. Any chance Roache is still available at pick #48? #13 is way too high for him but getting him at #48 would be very nice.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) So KW should have some blamed removed from him for some of the past drafts? I, for one, have never totally blamed Kenny for the draft inefficiencies. Much more of the blame should be on Reinsdorf, but there are specific examples ( Royce Ring in Round 1, Mitchell over Trout a few years back that could fall on KW. The thought process that says "never in anyway should we use resources on amateur talent, but I will shell out funds for the rest of Juan Pierre's contract" is and always will be completely asanine to me.
-
What Callis really hammered was JR-Kenny conundrum in their difference in philosophy. He said that Kenny Williams likes high impact, boom or bust type, toolsy players. But he said that Reinsdorf is not willing to spend money in the draft. The problem is that those type players are not cheap and in turn you end up with Keenyn Walker and Soptic type players.

Sox vs Twins 5/22 game thread 7:10 first pitch

Hopefully, Viciedo stays in the 5 hole for the game tonight. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 17, 2012 -> 11:47 AM) Absolutely not. Why trade Thornton for an old expensive 3b on the decline with back problems? Trade him for prospects and save the money. Let me rephrase: I did say that I would rather trade Thornton for a promising young piece than for Youkilis. I don't think anyone is giving up anything for Thornton though unless the Sox pick up the contract. Something JR will not do. If Kenny Williams thinks there is an outside shot at winning the division, Youkilis helps the Sox more this year than Thornton does in my opinion. I, However, like most of you do not think the Sox will ultimately compete this year, which makes a Youkilis-Thornton trade a moot point.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 17, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) White Sox make this deal if they can. The Red Sox would have to eat some money regardless, and it wouldn't be hard to get the cash to be even considering Thornton has ~$10m left total guaranteed, and Youk has ~$13m total guaranteed with buyout. White Sox probably have to include a PTBNL or "live arm." You're trading a mid 30's guy at a position of depth for a mid 30's guy at a position of weakness -- it's a wash in terms of "rebuilding" because the money and age is similar, it just flat out makes you better. Morel sucks and is still young. All you're doing is giving him one year to play as a bench guy, because Youk gets bought out. If the deal is Youkilis for Thornton I think everyone would make it. Thornton gets behind in the count, he has one pitch now, and it's a straight fastball that hitters sit on. Youkilis even bad would provide an upgrade in the lineup. But if the Sox indeed decide to sell off parts, they may be able to get a package of young players for Thornton, which would be better than adding Youk.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 17, 2012 -> 09:24 AM) If they judge it's the case that having a kid struggle at the big league level playing through a back injury is the right move, then that's their call...they're the ones who have to deal with replacing him if he fails. If they think they can't fix him at the big league level, then either he ought to be on the DL or playing every day at Charlotte. I wanted to give Morel a chance for the entire season but he has a .396 OPS. I had to look multiple times to make sure my eyes were not deceiving me. That is tough to do. There really is not another 3B option but at least if he went to AAA he may regain some semblance of confidence.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 16, 2012 -> 11:26 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,3921116.story Go for it Sox. Take whomever you think will be the BPA, age be damned. Well, there is the link to Matt Smoral. Laumann's kid played with him. So they should be pretty familiar with him.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 16, 2012 -> 12:15 AM) Chicago White SoxRichie Shaffer, 3B, Clemson Shaffer has the most raw power of any college hitter in this class and has a very good chance of being a solid big league regular, but probably not a star. It'll be interesting to see if ownership allows the scouting department to spend up to the new, higher slot numbers, since they almost never exceeded the old figures. I've also heard them tied to Ohio prep lefty Matt Smoral. People on this board have mentioned Oklahoma State LH Andrew Heaney as a possibility as well as Marcus Stroman. Both guys are available at #13 in Keith Law's mock.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 10, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) BA's first mock. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft...12/2613371.html I'd be just fine with Hawkins or Smoral. Still hoping Stroman or Fried fall to the Sox. Isn't there a great chance that Stroman ends up as a hard-throwing bullpen guy? The White Sox cannot spend another pick on a guy like that. Courtney Hawkins or Fried would be awesome. Stryker Trahan would be very intriguing though.
