Sox want Grienke "badly"
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 08:50 AM) FWIW: KW has had an offer out there for a while now for Greinke. It's substantial and includes key mlb roster talent. Sox are very determined to land him. Bucket, I know that you have inside info and I don't expect you to give up your sources. Do you have exact player names though? I know you won't tell us and you shouldn't but do you know the names or do you just know that it's significant? If so, what are your feelings? We have seen the names thrown around. Will White Sox fans be angry if the deal happens?

Angels turned down for Shields
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 12:03 PM) Bourjo's has some nice tools for a potential leadoff hitter, but the production hasn't exactly been there. Getting Shields for Bourjos would have been very foolish of the Rays and a major coup for the Angels. That said, I think Bourjo's is a quality chip the Angels have to offer the Marlins and/or Brewers in the competition for Greinke/Johnson. Bourjos could allow them to finally flip Upton though. CJ Cron is the guy that I would want in a Shields trade. Shields has 2 years left on his deal. Bourjos, Conger, and Cron too much for Shields? Probabaly. That's what I'd ask for though.

Whats up with the sellouts
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:35 AM) Judging by the attendance we had about 3000 comp tickets in attendance last night. I haven't see that mentioned yet, but just wanted to throw that on the fire. I think Adam Hoge of the Score tweeted last night that Mark Gonzalez had said that there were about 3,000 tickets given to some sort of youth group.

Hanley Ramirez traded to Dodgers
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:20 AM) Jeez, they got nothing for Hanley. Yeah I mean they got his salary paid. How is that enough though? Ramirez was one of the best players in baseball up until 2 years ago? Eovaldi is a good arm. Some scouts think he's a late inning reliever but I would imagine he goes into Miami's rotation with Jacob Turner. I don't know much about the other pitcher from the Dodgers. Hanley Ramirez was worth a lot more than that though. I would imagine if Texas wants Josh Johnson like everyone is saying then he will be a Ranger by the weekend. Marlins should demand Olt in return but at this rate they'd probably accept a hell of a lot less than that.

Dempster to Rangers
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 11:25 PM) 11:05pm: The Cubs are asking the Dodgers for minor league pitcher Allen Webster as the centerpiece of a Dempster trade, reports Morosi (Twitter link). 6:55pm: It's possible that the Dodgers could acquire Dempster from the Cubs without having to surrender Lee, a source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com (Twitter link). 5:34pm: The Dodgers are holding out on including pitching prospect Zach Lee in a potential Dempster trade, sources tell Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com (Twitter link). 4:20pm: The Cubs are talking to the Dodgers about Dempster again, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. Webster is a pretty good prospect with a nice sinker. Would be a good return for Cubs. I thought they'd be lucky to get a Chris Reed type.

Wandy Rodriguez to the Pirates
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) From what little I know about the prospects, looks like a decent deal for the Pirates. Pirates fans were upset on MLBTRADERUMORS but I think it's a good deal. Grossman is a pretty good prospect but the Bucs have 3 OF prospects that are better than he is. The other 2 guys are Lefties with #3-4 starter upside. They didn't give up any of their big time prospects and got a pitcher that is almost 2 WAR. It's an upgrade definitely.

2012 Cubs thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal Sources: Dempster does not want to go to #Braves - at least not yet. Dempster is really screwing the Cubs over by not going to Atlanta. Randall Delgado would have been a hell of a get for the Cubs. I think Theo's plan was to send Demp to Atlanta and Garza to LA for Zach Lee. Zach Lee and Randall Delgado would have been a nice start for the rebuilding plan on the pitching side.

Sox trade for Brett Myers
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 02:34 PM) Dayan Viciedo is safe... for now. Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN Team source confirms nobody off #WhiteSox MLB roster in deal for Brett Myers. Per last retweet, Blair Walters, 11th rounder in 2011 included The PTBNL probably means it's someone from last year's draft right? Those guys cannot be traded until a year after signing. Erik Johnson after today's promotion or is that way too much?

MVP so far?
- Trade Deadline Top Pitching Targets
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 01:42 PM) My prediction the Sox will make a trade for Sanchez.. Probably not a bad prediction. I could live with Sanchez depending on what they have to give up. Josh Johnson is intriguing though and even though he is struggling and that velocity is down, he is a typical Kenny Williams target.- GT 7/18: Sox @ Sawx, 6:10pm
QUOTE (northside sawx @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 12:54 PM) Exactly. Here is Pedro making his ML debut before Nestor. Albeit Molina just came off a stint on the DL, surely if the sox really wanted him to be the guy today they could have sat him yesterday and used him today. With Molina's seemingly inability to miss a bat in the minors this year (.322 oBA), Pedro may very well end up being the meat and potatoes. Way to early to tell though. We shall see. Simon Castro was the other part of the Quentin trade.- The Pierre-Viciedo Debate
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) Who has more outs versus right-handed pitchers in 2012 Pierre or Viciedo? I just read through what I missed in the thread. This is still going on? Seriously? Marty, why is this still going on? Pierre is not coming back to town. Who cares which guy has more outs vs RH pitching? Juan Pierre sucks at baseball. I will give you that Viciedo is bad vs RHP but at least there is the chance that DV will hit for power off of RH pitching. This whole thread is nauseating though because of the Pierre discussion. My god just end it already.- Lilibridge to be DFA'd
QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) Lillibridge will find a job somewhere. A utility guy who can play both infield and outfield is valuable because he potentially frees up a roster spot for a team. That may be his greatest asset... Providing roster flexibility. Lillibridge probably ends up in Seattle right? He would get playing time, is from there, and I thought Jack Z always liked Lilli. Probably best vase scenario for him.- Trade Deadline Top Pitching Targets
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 07:50 AM) I think there was rumors that we were trying to sign him a couple of years ago, correct? Yes there were. I think he was going to come to spring training for the minimum to play for his favorite team. But then the Mets offered him a guaranteed 2 years and he obviously went to New York.- Trade Deadline Top Pitching Targets
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:38 PM) Anybody we want from the Mets? They're cratering, and should be selling soon. I'd like Tim Byrdak actually. Very effective LOOGY type guy. Been around awhile and from my hometown of Lockport.- Hernandez gets the call Wednesday in Boston
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 10:04 PM) So, I'm getting lost here. Doesn't that leave us down a guy? Maybe Putz is coming? We are down a guy in the bullpen with Hernandez and Axelrod technically starters. Hopefully Bruney is ready, if not it may be Heath again.- Will the Royals ever be good?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 03:33 PM) With that arm, it'd be worth a shot, especially if the Sox can't find another arm cheap enough. ss2k, Sanchez is a typical Kenny move. I think it would be worth a shot.- Trade Deadline Top Pitching Targets
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) I don't see how the Sox could get Greinke without giving up Viciedo. I would usually agree with you but times are changing. Greinke will be a rental and without the chance for teams to get a draft pick for him, I have to believe that the offers will be reasonable. Texas has the deepest farm system involved and I don't think they would even consider Profar or Olt without an extension.- Dempster to Rangers
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 01:21 PM) Not nearly as many as Viciedo. Marty the power makes up for that though. Pierre's are empty outs. Neither player walks. Viciedo's power makes him much more valuable. Viciedo is going to hit 25-30 homers in his rookie season as the 5th-6th offensive option as a 23 year old. I wish Viciedo was more selective but comparing the two is wrong.- Dempster to Rangers
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) This is the dumbest idea I've heard. Pierre as a 2 hitter. Your what hurts? In the American League? Those numbers that he's putting up won't translate at all for the Sox. Two, we need power at home in July/Aug/September. We already have a 1 hole hitter. Why do we need any insurance for Viciedo? I'm more concerned with needing insurance for DeAza at this point if he wears down in the 2nd half. No Thank You on Pierre. One of my biggest joys watching the Sox this year is the sheer fact that Juan Pierre is no longer on the baseball team. He is a terrible baseball player and an example of why sometimes stats can be deceiving. Viciedo's bat needs to stay in the lineup and Dayan is even a better OF than Pierre is. I can't even believe that Pierre was suggested.- Poll questions, Santos/Molina, next starter in
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 12:47 PM) Y U NO Castro? If he did not just come off the disabled lost he would have gotten the call I guess. Gonzo also speculated that they wanted to throw one of the lefties against Boston. Leesman throws harder right? I'd actually like to see what we have in Pedro Hernandez though.- Poll questions, Santos/Molina, next starter in
Mark Gonzalez was on with Mcneil/Spiegel and speculated that either Hernandez or Leesman would get the start in Boston on Wednesday night.- Dempster to Rangers
Dempster would not be my first choice because he has never pitched in the American League, but this not trading with the Cubs crap is nonsense. I have never understood why it matters. Even trading in the division is a good idea if it's the right deal. If the deal gets you closer to a World Series title, you make it, regardless of who you are trading with.- 2012 MLB Catch All thread
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 04:18 PM) Washington signed Lucas Giolito. Scary. Yeah that's another nice get for that great system. My girlfriend is a Pirates fan from Pittsburgh and I follow them a little closer than most teams. They could not come to terms with Stanford RHP Mark Appel today. They offered the $3.8 million that they had available. With all of the issues that came out with Appel, I'm not sure going back was a smart move. Next year's draft is weaker than this years but he has to go top 5 to make more coin than that. Pittsburgh gets 2 1st rounders next year, but man Cole-Taillon-Appel would have been nice for them.- Sox are interested in Volquez and Street
QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:26 PM) So much for MLBTradeRumors "if its whispered, we hear it" after a radio report and 6 pages of comments here. If the Rays fall out of contention by the deadline, I wonder what James Shields' price tag will be? Funny that you mention it, I shot Tim Dierkes an email yesterday letting him know about the rumor. No traction. I think the name of the beat writer may have helped the cause. - Trade Deadline Top Pitching Targets
