Cubs have some pretty good pitching now, but that deal makes no sense.

The #Cubs are still finalizing the details, but Sanchez has agreed to the five-year deal that will be announced after physical

Word is that it is a 5 year $75 million deal. Heyman and Rosenthal both say that it is not yet completed however. Deal gives the Cubs a rotation of Garza, Sanchez, Feldman, Baker, Samardzija, and Wood. Not too bad actually.

Yeah, it's just confusing considering everything else that Theo has done & said. Maybe he realized how little pitching the Cubs system truly has or just got tempted from sitting on all that money for so long.

3 straight seasons of 195 IP and ERA between 3.50-3.99, but age 29 on Opening Day. A bit of an overpay, but not an awful deal. Just kinda weird that it's the Cubs.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Tigers are still "very much in" the mix for Anibal Sanchez.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today just recently reported that Sanchez had signed with the Cubs for five years and $75 million, but Heyman thinks he might have jumped the gun. Sanchez's agent, Gene Mato, told Heyman that he's still talking to multiple teams about his client. The Cubs might be in the driver's seat, but it appears that it's not a done deal.

If he goes to Detroit, this would be the 3rd Cubs transaction in 5 months that "happened", but then actually didn't.

Yup. Looks like somebody's leaking information far too early in their FO.

I love the Cubs...

Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS

#tigers are believed at $75M for 5 on anibal. In position to sign, barring mystery team last-minute entry

Cubs are out on anibal. #tigers look like tiger are likely winner

That's interesting, Rosenthal tweeted a bit earlier that the Cubs upped their offer.

Ken Rosenthal@Ken_Rosenthal Source: #Cubs increase five-year offer to Anibal Sanchez to $77.5M. #Tigers at $75M. Negotiations continue.
