  1. It's partly risk mitigation and partly ethics/morals I believe. Jerry Reinsdorf just fundamentally doesn't believe in giving big bonuses to teenagers. It's a huge problem in this market. Paddy is landing some intriguing low dollar signings and they've cornered the market on advanced Cubans obviously. Marco Paddy obviously knows talent because he recommended Jose Abreu and Luis Robert, signed Fernando Tatis and was in the mix for Vlad Jr and Juan Soto. The money has always been an obstacle. I do think that he prefers to spread the money around but the White Sox just aren't at the table often enough when these guys are 13-14 years old for whatever reason. Something is missing with their strategy in the Dominican Republic. The biggest bonus that they've given to an international teenager (16 year old) is $1.5 million for Micker Adolfo and Franklin Reyes (Franmil's brother). Small market clubs all over the league hand out $3-$5 million bonuses to teenagers ever year. The White Sox will be behind in the marketplace until they change.
  2. Bonus pool space can't be traded during this period so it should be fine
  3. I think that an international draft will help them a lot. The scouting isn't the issue. Spending is.
  4. Well they're giving Oscar Colas $2.7 million of it already. I'm sure they'll have multiple $400-$600K signings out of DR and Ven
  5. I don't think they'll take a prep pitcher in round 1. Going to be a prep hitter or college pitcher IMO.
  6. The White Sox have less money to spend on the draft than they've had in previous years. They have just over $5 million to spend internationally. I wrote about the bonus pools and the scouting process for FutureSox: https://www.futuresox.com/2021/04/20/importance-of-scouting-with-limited-amateur-bonus-pools/
  7. I suppose they could have but the manager requested Liam Hendriks
  8. It's not on the front office. It's on Jerry Reinsdorf for not having enough in the budget and Tony La Russa for choosing to not play Andrew Vaughn.
  9. Then he should be at the alternate site and I'd be fine with that decision as well.
  10. Andrew Vaughn has a .400 OBP and Nick Williams should never be playing instead of him.
  11. I think some guys will pop for sure but it's probably still a bottom 10 system after graduations.
  12. He'll throw more than that. They're gonna try to get him between 80-100 IMO
  13. Adolfo has never been to Charlotte. I'm guessing High-A will include Bryce Bush, Luis Mieses and Anderson Comas and some others. Cespedes could go there too but I think they might send him right to Birmingham.
  14. I believe right now it's Zavala, Mendick, Reynolds and two pitchers
  15. Burger, Adolfo and Cespedes likely headed to AA Birmingham. They're in Arizona. The alternate site is likely the Charlotte Knights team basically. I'm not sure what the deal is with Jimmy Lambert though.
  16. I've heard Pacheco is a definite target and Georgia catcher Harry Ford as well.
  17. Nobody should be understanding. Jerry Reinsdorf sucks.
  18. You just can't look at this way. They didn't have $54 million to allocate elsewhere. That's not how they operate under Reinsdorf. They basically had $30 million to spend. Hendriks is $11 million of that. They can't just take the full value of Hendrik's contract and allocate it for 2021. It doesn't work that way.
  19. They can get the best reliever in baseball for $54 million. The best players at other positions cost a lot more. That's my point. They play at the very top of the market for catchers and relief pitchers.
  20. Tony wanted him. It's one area where they can acquire elite players due to the low price point. They think Crochet is a starter. I'm just dubious that it ever happens.
  21. I understand it. Don't want to waste innings at an alternate site when the club is trying to win. I have my doubts about how it works long-term though. There's no doubt in my mind that Kopech is a starter in 2022 but I feel Crochet will be a reliever forever at this point. He won't have the innings base to convert to starting and you'd need to pull him from an effective bullpen role to do it while trying to win championships.
  22. We're playing football currently.
  23. I think Lamb will be on the team in place of Mendick
