This seems like a pretty extreme post for a AAA outfielder that was generally a good kid & teammate.

I really don’t understand what your complaint is here. The Sox are adjusting their draft philosophy to better align with their development capabilities. They have struggled in the past turning athletes into ballplayers. Now they’re drafting with guys with plus hit tools & on-base skills. They’re giving up some upside in the process, but until Getz can right the development ship, this is a pretty sound approach.

What is it that you don’t understand? It seems pretty clear what they’ve been trying to do in recent years whether I agree with it or not.

Avilan & Cedeno have both been good to pretty good this season. Both should be desirable, but the problem is they don’t provide enough utility as LOOGY’s to warrant much of a return. I still think it’s worth moving at least one of them regardless just to open up a spot for Bummer.

There is no way they can keep Jimenez down in AAA until next year. Look at this kids’ slash line: .372/.419/.663/1.082 (206 wRC+) Unless it’s defense related, there is no other box to check off. This 21 year old kid is clearly ready for the show. And I’m all for doing what it takes (within reason) to maximize team control of a given player, but Eloy seems like the type of kid that would sign an extension early into his career. We know he took less to sign with the Cubs when he was an amateur free agent who had nothing. I think fathom is right and they will call this kid up prior to Tuesday’s game.

Just seems odd they couldn’t find a legit 2B. Seemed like there were quite a few out there.

I think Phillips’ swing & miss issues will prevent him from ever reaching his ceiling, but for a team this early into their rebuild it does make a lot of sense to swing for the fences with a guy like this.

Lopez has actually thrown a ton of changeups tonight. Has that contributed to the poor results? If so, I’m all for it. I’m guessing it’s much more than that, just looking for a reason for optimism.

He was throwing pitches in Charlotte and then just let him stop throwing a changeup & curve. It’s poor player if I’ve ever seen it.
