Which of these (bad) options would you bat lead off?
Hopefully Saladino. He needs at-bats and shouldn't embarrass you out there like May likely will. Plus I think he's a bit more patient than his MLB walk rate suggests.

I know he's not making the opening day roster, but has Delmonico been sent down yet?

Predict the 2017 Opening Day Roster
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) Not that it matters, but what is the theory behind Cody Asche on the roster? 1200 PAs and .684 OPS. .298 OBP. Just that he hits left-handed? What would you do with the roster spot instead?

2017 White Sox prediction thread
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) I think they'll win in the low 70s, but I actually think this team will be with 5 games of .500 in early June. I don't think we're anywhere near as bad as some people around here think/want us to be. That said, once Melky is given away, and Frazier is traded for whatever we can get, and Robertson and perhaps Jones are moved, and fringe guys like Gonzalez, Holland and Soto are moved, this team is going to be bad. Which I think will result in something in the high 60s, low 70s wins, and somewhere between the 5th and 10th pick. I used to feel this way, but I now believe this team will simply suck. The rotation is going to be a mess, the defense will be below average at best, and there are several significant holes in the lineup. And once we trade guys like Quintana, Frazier, Melky, Jones, & Robertson things will only get worse. This team is not going to win 70+ games unless they get incredibly lucky or have some unforeseen breakthrough performances.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) They need the prospect haul that Q will bring back to maximize the rebuild. he'll be in his early 30's by the time they are good again and will need to be paid also. Keeping Q doesn't make much sense. 100% agree. We can't pass on quality offers for a guy like Q this early in the rebuild process. The opportunity cost of keeping him through two or three lost seasons is simply too high.

Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 07:38 PM) Everyone seems to think that the Sox would benefit from him being in the upcoming J2 class but I'm not sure it matters. If he's in the class, the Sox could offer him $8.3 million (after trading for $3.5 million in space). Some small market teams could theoretically pay him $10 million though. I'm not sure it matters but those are the facts. If he's cleared prior to June 15th, it's all about $$. It's not like the big boys are involved though. San Diego, St. Louis, and Houston will be big players in this scenario. The White Sox really can't outbid those teams though if they want the guy? I know the Padres have spent $80 million internationally this year. Would they really pump that up to $120-$130 million to sign Robert? If Reinsdorf can't win a bidding war with those teams, we are probably doomed anyway. 100% agree with all of this. The Sox should be able to win a bidding war here. All the teams in play have either been huge spenders or will likely need resources for their major league team. The Sox need elite positional talent and adding Robert is like getting a 1-1 draft pick. His addition would be a game changer for the rebuild. Suddenly, a positional core built around Robert, Anderson, Moncada, & Collins seems pretty legit. If you believe Robert can stick in CF, you're basically covered up the middle and only have to add corner guys in the coming years. And that isn't going to be insanely difficult between trades (Quintana, Jones, Robertson, Frazier), free agents (Donaldson, Machado, McCutchen, etc.), high draft picks in 2017 & 2018, & existing assets in the system (Basabe, Call, Fisher, Michelczewksi, Delmonico, etc.)

Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal
I don't think the class really matters. The Sox will be going all out for this guy. Not only does he add another potential impact positional player to the org to go with Anderson, Moncada, & Collins, he also represents a huge PR win for the rebuild. Unless a team like the Astros does something ridiculous (i.e. Moncada money), I fully expect us to land him regardless of class.

Predict the 2017 Opening Day Roster
QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 10:18 AM) I understand why we are giving Davidson a chance but I don't see it ending well. Hope it does! but 57ab and 25k is not looking promising. Odds are it won't, but there's nothing to lose at this point IMO. The other options for his role, primarily Delmonico, could use a bit more seasoning in AAA.

New Beer at The Rate
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 08:52 AM) The list came out, and holy s*** its pretty good. Obviously some will not like it all, but there is a nice selection. I personally like thats its not all IPA-based. The pilsners are a nice selection of some of my favorites. Having Oberon is a win/win. I'm a huge Oberon fan, so that makes me pretty happy. Just hope you don't have to go on a hike to find it.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 10:18 AM) Dodgers seem content to hang onto their prospects right now Would a Bellinger, Alvarez and Verdugo package be enough? That would be an incredible package and one I don't see the Dodgers offering.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 07:43 PM) With the pitchers we already have in our system, I am OK building a deal without Martes, but then there has to be some quantity to make up for it. Theoretically, I could do a deal without Martes, but then you're talking about a 5 for 1 that included Tucker, Reed, Perez, Whitley, & another OF (Fisher, Hernandez, or Laureano). No way in hell the Astros would do that though.

QUOTE (Baron @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 05:01 PM) Right I'm just counting the Pirates completely out. Plus they just cant give away prospects. It's just gonna take a team like the Dodgers or a team like that for a trade to actually happen. I'm not holding my breath. I still think he's here beyond next offseason. Someone will budge at the deadline IMO. Astros may well reconsider if one or more of their guys underperform. Yankees could be players if they are in the wild card mix come June/July. I wouldn't rule out the Cubs or Dodgers if they have a big injury. Should be plenty of teams interested before the deadline and all it takes is one to panic for us to get a quality return. I do agree with you that they need move Quintana this season though.

Rays acquire Bourjos
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) I doubt the cash considerations will cover lunch. His defense has been slipping. He can't hit with power, doesn't hit for average, doesn't make much contact, doesn't get on base, and doesn't steal many bases. He was going to be a mediocre placeholder at best. Seriously, no one was giving up anything of value for this guy. This move is 100% about using playing time, which is an asset during a rebuild, on a player who actually has a non-zero chance of becoming part of the long term mix. Give May the CF job for now and see if Asche can develop into a useful bench piece. Bourjos's poor bat and detoriating defense wasn't going to offer us much.

Rays acquire Bourjos
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 07:10 AM) So you would have cut him, but you are annoyed that the Sox traded him for cash considerations? People will literally complain about anything.

Rays acquire Bourjos
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:15 PM) Liriano can't play CF. Leury is backup CF. Doesn't change much. Bench of: Sanchez, Leury, Soto, and Asche IMO. You're missing CF now that Tilson is injured, which means those four plus May now.

2017 International Signings
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 12:55 PM) Yes. It's crazy to expect a team that is slashing payroll, going into a total rebuild to bid on what many consider the second best international prospect in the world because it might cost them a 16 year old or 2 the next couple of years. Out of control expectation. I actually think it's lunacy to just expect the same old White Sox. We've gone in a completely direction and the way our front office operates will be different as a result. We literally just traded two cost-controlled stars in one offseason, something that our organization has never done before. Now that our short-term goal is talent accumulation and not winning, it's crazy to think they won't change their ways. And that may mean going over their international budget for the first time, which Hahn has clearly stated is something they are considering.
