I'm really, really worried that not scoring with the bases loaded and no outs is going to come back to haunt us tonight. We may not get another three hits off Keuchel the rest of the game, let alone in one inning. For the love of God, prove me wrong offense. I'd much rather look like a pouty douche than lose a one run game.

97 MPH on the gun, dude has filthy stuff. With a bit more seasoning and refinement of his changeup, this kid could be an ace as soon as next year.
-
I will say this, it's hard to pitch effectively when your team is constantly struggling to score runs. Not trying to excuse Rodon's control problems tonight, but it does cause these guys to press a bit.

Also, Tumbleweed needs to go. DFA his ass, call up Kottaras, & give Soto the majority of the starts. Desperate times call for desperate measures and we simply can't keep trotting Flowers out there.

I would have thought that was the greatest play ever by Beckham based on Hawk's reaction.

2015 MLB Draft Thread - Discussion - DAY ONE
Chicago White Sox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 05:35 AM) I'm delighted with the Sox pick, I'm just concerned with the fact that they have just 1 pick in the first 3 rounds and are missing out on some impact hitting talent that the system badly needs I think we need to see what they do in Latin America. I'm really hoping they decide to go all out for the 2015 signing season, starting with Eddy Julio Martinez. Obviously that is a long-shot, but they need to find a way to infuse some position talent into the system and with an international draft likely around the corner, this may be time to game the system. The problem is we aren't the only one thinking this way. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) Even on a night where Chris Sale is other worldly, The Misery Crew is here to take a sledgehammer to people's ankles. Thanks to all of the Kathy Bates' of So talk. I've probably b****ed more than anyone in this thread tonight, and I'm one of the most optimistic posters on this site. If I'm now part of the "Misery Crew" then I'll embrace it. And quite frankly, seeing how dominant Sale is capable of being makes it even harder to tolerate an offense that could very well bs the reason he doesn't pitch in the playoffs again. Watching Flowers & Sanchez day after day and expecting a different result is beyond frustrating and one win doesn't change that. I truly believe this can be a playoff team, but some changes are needed ASAP or the hole will be too big to dig themselves out of. -

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 10:24 PM) The question is will Micah's defense ever get to a point where you can tolerate it? It was pretty bad. If he can, then I agree he is the long term solution to the position. I personally think Micah was pressing and would have improved significantly as the season progressed. He's most definitely a flawed defensive player, but no way in hell is he as bad as he played earlier this year. Just like Sanchez with the bat, we were going through some growing pains with the glove for Micah. I thought it was foolish to send down Micah only to go through a second young player's growing pains, but that's essentially what we've done, but again this time for a guy most project as a utility player. Whether or not Micah should have made the opening day roster, once we went with him as the opening day starter, we should have committed to him for a few months. Unfortunately, the organization overreacted to his struggles with the glove and made him the scapegoat for our team's defensive problems. Sanchez has definitely improved our defense, but he's been completely worthless with the at-bat. And it came at the cost of one of our few hitters who took a lot of pitches, got on base at decent clip, and who had the potential be dangerous on the basepaths. -

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 10:15 PM) Steve Stone seems to advocate the position that at every level Sanchez has been at, he's been the youngest in the league at that point, and that his game catches up to that level fairly quickly. Stone also seems to intimate that will happen at this level at some point as well, that his bat will catch up. He seems overmatched at the moment, but maybe he'll get there with a little more patience. There's no doubt he's not this bad offensively, but IMO the bat doesn't project enough to be a regular and therefore we shouldn't endure his growing pains while we attempt to compete. At least Micah has a shot of being our long-term 2B. -

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 10:14 PM) ALERT!! BREAKING NEWS! ****Tyler Flowers' batting average is BELOW .200**** Sanchez officially below a .400 OPS. I believe he's provided more negative WAR than Micah now. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 10:13 PM) "Lance McCullers is one of the best 24 year old right handers I've ever seen. Period!" Jesus Hawk. I honestly was just thinking how annoying Hawk has gotten when I heard him say this. His extended absence from the booth has made this more clear than ever. -

Not only does Flowers suck, but now he's trying to injure our fans. When will we finally rid ourselves of Tumbleweed. -

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 10:05 PM) Not sure why but, despite really good stats, Kottaras has barely played lately for Charlotte I'm guessing they simply want Kevan Smith to get the bulk of the playing time, but Kotteras has been very good offensively in his limited playing time. And even as a pro, he's been productive with the bat. However, given his lack of opportunities, he must be a complete liability defensively. Still might be better than Flowers if he can hit enough though. -

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 10:02 PM) It really sucks to be wasting all of Chris Sale's prime years like this That's why Hahn is correct to keep adding. Get a 3B & catcher and this team can be serious contenders. -

I wonder how much longer Hahn will be cool with Flowers & Sanchez in the starting lineup. With the amount of high-paid regulars struggling, we can't tolerate a complete lack of offensive production at the bottom of the order. Flowers has clearly proven he's not an everyday catcher. Not sure if he'd be an improvement, but I'd give Kottaras a look in a part-time role. As for Sanchez, he's currently sitting on a .400 OPS. I don't care how good his defense is, he's a negative value player right now. I stand by claim that Micah Johnson should never have been sent down in the first place. But given that they clearly don't feel confident with his defense, simply split time at 2B between Beckham & Bonifacio (Gordon could play 3B against RHP). -
This thread has a hole lot of stupid in it. Short of injury, there is a 0% chance we don't get a compensation pick for Shark if he leaves in the offseason. Second, he will not be a "5 ERA pitcher" by the end of the season. The guy's FIP is nearly a run lower than his ERA. On top of that, he's clearly performed below his talent level. The odds are incredibly high Shark will pitch significantly better over the remainder of the season. Last but not least, GMs aren't going to pass on a player simply because his stats are bad at that point in time. Teams will do their due diligence by scouting the player and project what he will have to offer going forward. If he's pitching well come July, teams won't care that he sucked in April & May. Furthermore, the supply of quality starting pitching will greatly impact his value to teams. Way too early to know with any level of certainty who will be available come late July or what they might cost.
