Fully agree, but Romy should be utilized against LHP regardless. Not as a full platoon partner for Colas, but to help us against really tough lefties. The kid legit destroyed them in AA in an admittedly SSS, but his handedness makes it seems less fluke-ish.

That is a super small sample size and he wasn’t facing major leaguers. I’m hopeful he’s not a platoon guy, but let’s not act as if he’s a proven LHP masher at this time. There will likely be an adjustment period for him and it’s very reasonable to sit him tonight.

Kudos to Grifol for making the right decision and not the emotional one. No doubt playing Colas on Opening Day would be more fun, but Romy against a tough lefty when we won’t face another one for some time is the right call.

And that makes sense given Valdez is primarily a sinker-curveball pitcher, which our core guys hit well overall. I feel like we should be able to scrap together three or four runs off him today. Ultimately this one feels like it comes down to Cease. He hasn’t been good against the Astros in the past and even last year he was bad in his one start against them. We really need five strong from him tonight and then pray the bullpen can close things out. Regardless, this should be a fun way to kick of the 2023 season.

We’re going to destroy Valdez tomorrow. I’m predicting slaughter rule …11-0 White Sox. At least three bombs for us including one by Vaughn. Cease goes six strong with 10 k’s. Lopez pitches a perfect 9th to close things out.
