Didn’t you say Kimbrel was terrible last year? Because those are his full year numbers and they don’t look much different than two dudes who got $50M contracts. ?

I’m 100% fine with anyone preferring us sign another reliever. My beef is with people acting like it’s dumb to sigh more relievers from a capital allocation perspective. The same people bitching about this move would be bitching about our shitty bullpen in May if we didn’t sign Kelly & Graveman.

Of course he is. The Sox aren’t signing Joe Kelly to 2/$17M deal if they plan on keeping Kimbrel and you know that.

As I posted earlier today, but let me add some dollar figures to these guys: Player A: 2.54 ERA | 2.34 FIP | 14.3 K/9 | 1.4 HR/9 | 99th percentile xwOBA (4/$54M) Player B: 2.26 ERA | 2.43 FIP | 15.1 K/9 | 0.9 HR/9 | 98th percentile xwOBA (????????) Player C: 2.57 ERA | 2.83 FIP | 13.2 K/9 | 1.4 HR/9 | 97th percentile xwOBA (4/$58M) So players A & C are somehow worth $13M+ per year on four year deals, but player B (who is obviously Kimbrel) is lucky to be worth 1/$10M per yourself. ?

I don’t need to do shit. You’re the one whining about how we’re spending more than most teams on our bullpen, but not acknowledging that we’re spending more than 24 teams on our total payroll. So tell me what percentage of our total payroll post Kimbrel trade is going towards the bullpen and how that compares to the rest of the league? If you’re going to destroy this site with your non-stop bitching, at least man up and do some basic arithmetic to support your underlying point.

You crack me up. How much of their total payroll is going to relievers if Kimbrel is dumped? And how does that compare to the rest of the league?

Again, please tell us all what you would have done with the bullpen. It’s easy to criticize, but it’s all meaningless without a superior alternative.

And that’s totally fair. But people mad we’re wasting resources on the bullpen when the alternative is giving even more innings to Ruiz or Burr are nuts.

Kimbrel is a good reliever, just sucked with us last year.

What’s stupid exactly? Our bullpen is garbage after like four guys and desperately needed an addition, especially if we move Kimbrel.

I think it’s Conforto or Castellanos.

Which is fine, but even on a two year deal Rodon is a massive risk. To think he’s suddenly going to be a beacon of health is based on nothing but desire.

So would I, but if you could get McNeil for Lopez+ you could then go out and sign someone like McHugh to replace him. This assumes you deal for another SP and make Keuchel your #6 starter. Not sure why the Mets wouldn’t just sign McHugh in the first place though.

Did you watch Hahn’s press conference? He might as well had a giant boner coming out of his face when he was asked if there was a specific agent / player he called first when activity reopened. He’s negotiating with Boras for something and all these leaks are part of that chess game. Hahn is not sitting around on his ass no matter what is being leaked to the media.

I never quite understood how GMs / agents thought negotiating in the media would actually work, but now I know…

So a guy who has had various shoulder, elbow, & forearm issues over his career and has never been able to stay healthy for a full season is suddenly going to stay healthy for five straight years. Makes total sense.

I won’t stop saying it, but we need both a big time RF and a #3 caliber starter via trade. Do both of those things and a Leury / Miller is tolerable.

Brad Miller will probably cost $3M. He’s put up a 123 or better wRC+ for three straight years. He’s also been an average or above fielder at 2B per OAA during the time. Have him the strong side of a 2B platoon with Leury and go get a real RF.

2B is such an easy position to fill that’s usually not worth investing heavily into. Regardless, what quality free agents even are left?
