  1. Honestly, I really struggle what you can acquire without dealing Vaughn. Would almost have to take on a bad contract. I think we’ve got some payroll flexibility still, but Hahn has never shown a willingness to take a bad player to get another with surplus value.
  2. Probably not, but to be fair, it’s a completely different value equation given the extra year of control.
  3. Stone was just on The Score with Lawrence Holmes. Said we were finalists with the Padres for Manaea but the A’s liked the Padres’ offer better. Stated pretty confidently that the Sox will continue to look for a quality starter. He did mention Montas as possibility, but pointed out that he’ll be more expensive than Manaea. He concluded by saying if the Sox don’t add another quality starter it won’t be from a lack of effort.
  4. The Padres were willing to eat ~$30M of Hosmer’s contract, which would put his cash salary for us around $7.5M per year for the next four years. Paddock makes $2.3M this year. We could squeeze both in this year for roughly the same price as Manaea. Still not sure I’d do that deal though.
  5. I’m not touching Bauer even if he was free. I get he wasn’t convicted of anything, but he’s got enough of a track record of general douchiness that I don’t want him in our clubhouse.
  6. I have it as a C+ after the McGuire trade. The positional side is in great shape with tons of depth throughout including Burger, Gonzalez, & Haseley at AAA. Not addressing the rotation prevents it from being any higher though. Hahn is putting a ton of faith in Keuchel rebounding and Lopez & Velasquez to be quality depth options. It could all unravel very quickly with some injury bad luck, which is unfortunate since there were quality starters available at reasonable prices in free agency.
  7. We need to an extra option year for him due to all his injuries FWIW
  8. I guess there is some logic on waiting for roster sizes to shrink, but the kid should get almost no playing time in April so I don’t really see how he builds up his value.
  9. Yeah, it’s starting to feel like a big miss. With Pollock & McGuire in the fold, the positional side is pretty loaded with quality depth in AAA. The core members of the pitching staff are great when healthy, but it only takes a couple of a big injuries to unravel that. It’s amazing how much Manaea would help mitigate that.
  10. This year is going to be a big test. The Sox actually have some talented arms in the lower minors between Thompson, Dalquist, Kelley, Burke, & Vera. They represent a sizable portion of our total investment in the draft and international free agency in recent years. If we don’t see some promising signs out of that group this year then it’s time to start questioning whether Getz should be overseeing our player development system or not.
  11. What is a month on the bench going to change? It’s just delaying the inevitable.
  12. You said “Patellar Tendinitis. 3-4 months. no doubt”, so not exactly what you predicted
  13. What does RF have to do with our SP depth?
  14. If I’m the Twins, I’m really starting to think long and hard about a Montas trade.
  15. Honestly, the real failure is what’s at AAA. With Stiever out, it’s basically just Lambert on the 40 man plus Vargas & McClure if you’re really desperate. They need to find a vet who is willing to play in Charlotte for a few months at minimum.
  16. I stressed it all winter, but the only thing that can prevent us from making the playoffs is bad and/or unhealthy starting pitching. And for the first two months of the season, we’ll be rocking this: Lucas Giolito Dylan Cease Dallas Keuchel* Michael Kopech Reynaldo Lopez Honestly, that’s a potentially bad rotation and all it took was one injury to the big three. There is no guarantee the rest of these guys will remain healthy while Lynn is out. Hahn needs to find a starter ASAP or risk letting the other AL Central teams hang around a bit too long.
  17. Ciuffo isn’t on the 40 man roster.
  18. In all honesty, this is a great move outside of some minor character concerns. Maybe a change of scenery gets the bat going a bit as well.
  19. Luzardo had a 5+ FIP for the Marlins
  20. I wouldn’t worry about payroll salary since that includes a straight lined portion of his signing bonus.
