  1. I really don’t see how Vaughn survives the offseason with us unless we are going to sacrifice RF defense. Hahn has continued to stress improving the defense is critical, but that’s going to be tough if your improvements are limited to 2B. Something has got to give and I think Vaughn is the piece that gets moved because he’ll return the most value and will be attractive to the most teams.
  2. That’s going to be some brutal OF defense and negate a lot of the value these kids provide with the bat. I’d rather use one of Vaughn/Sheets at DH and get me a real RF.
  3. He was injured last year and that down year will be factored into the price. What would you rather do to address RF and add more balance to the lineup?
  4. I think you’re misrepresenting Boras a bit here. He literally comes up with outlandish asks for his mega-stars and will wait out as long as possible until a team meets it. Once a team does meet that price (or comes close enough), I’m pretty sure he actually accepts without a bunch of gamemanship. And he definitely has his go to clubs for star players as he knows there are only so many clubs who can take on massive contracts late in the off-season.
  5. While I don’t think Varsho is realistic, I do like the outside the box thinking and feel like Hahn will need to be creative this offseason.
  6. I’m still just not sure why the Dbacks would trade him given his age / control. Marte is a much more realistic target for us. The challenge there is the only piece we have that gets you in the conversation is Vaughn and they already have a few 1B/DH types in Smith and Beer. Maybe they can be convinced Vaughn can play a passable LF long-term. Regardless, Marte is the guy we should pursuing if we’re looking for an impact player via trade.
  7. Are you actually comparing Conforto & Semien to two dudes that cleared $300M? I fully agree that Semien is extremely unlikely, but these dudes are nothing like “Harpchado”.
  8. Lol…you’re actually struggling with someone saying if Eloy replicated his 2020 results over a full season?
  9. Which is exactly the point I just made.
  10. Conforto and a pitcher makes so much more sense than Semien at that price. Can’t afford to pay him SS money and use him at 2B.
  11. Because the fanbase was irate over the Machado fiasco and the front office wanted it to be clear that they actually made the highest bid for Wheeler without the BS option year shit that they used with Manny. But seriously, are you actually arguing they made fake offers to Wheeler? Like what exactly is the point you are trying to make here?
  12. How often does a player accept a lower offer? Haven’t you argued in the past like 95% of free agents take the biggest offer?
  13. Don’t think he was laughing when we made that 3/$55M offer for Keuchel, although he may laughing right now
  14. Yeah, Rick Hahn is conducting fake negotiations in hopes of Soxtalk posters like myself citing it years later as proof they aren’t cheap ???
  15. The Machado stuff I won’t defend because their offer wasn’t very serious IMO, at least once the Padres entered the mix. But when it comes to Wheeler, they had the highest offer on the table and lost out because of his wife’s geographical preferences. Perhaps they could of continued outbidding themselves until they reached a price point he couldn’t say no to, but I can’t fault them for that. Generally speaking it sets a bad negotiating precedent with agents you constantly work with.
  16. I’m hoping this is sarcasm because they 100% made the offer with hopes of him accepting it
  17. The Sox set the market for Wheeler, who plays a position that gets 9 figure contracts, with a 9 figure contract.
  18. The Sox signed Grandal 10 days after the World Series ended. Tomorrow would be 10 days from this year’s World Series ending. Could the Sox land a free agent in the next week or so? With the CBA expiring Dec 1st you got to think some guys will push for deals ASAP and Hahn basically stated the Sox like to be aggressive in free agency. Not sure how Boras plays into all this, but if Conforto is truly a top target (like he should be) perhaps we find a way to get a deal done soon. It would be amazing to get one need addressed before what will almost certainly be a long negotiating period.
  19. @Balta1701 - Let’s see your offseason plan! Would drive some much needed conversation!
  20. Guys, Boras wasn’t going to come out after the Sox didn’t offer the QO and say “thank god the Sox didn’t offer one or we would have accepted”. And the best way for him to spin this is by saying the Sox are stupid, that they would have never accepted the QO, and that they want a multi-year deal because Carlos is 100% healthy (?). It’s totally fine if you want to argue not extending a QO was stupid, but this certainly isn’t proof of anything.
  21. That puts a ton of pressure on the OF defense.
  22. So interesting article coming out of the GM meetings. Hahn says they have financial flexibility right now, but have to to decide whether they want to blow most or all of it on one impact player or spread it across address multiple needs. If you assume an impact player would eat up roughly $25M or so and that to the $157M we’re already sitting on, that could theoretically put a payroll target just north of $180M which does feel like the high end of a realistic payroll range. If you move Kimbrel for prospects or a cheap reliever, you could potentially have to $40M or so to work. Still requires some creativity to address all our needs appropriately, but it seems like there are reasons for optimism here. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/white-sox-can-spend-offseason-question-will-be-how-spend
  23. Out of curiosity, but how does Vaughn fit in Seattle? Seems like they’re loaded in the OF (even without Haniger) and have White locked up through 2025. Just don’t really see them being all that excited to trade Gilbert+ for him.
  24. I think the marginal difference between Leury & Romy isn’t all that much as I don’t believe Leury is a 2 win player going forward. As such, I’d rather sign a $4M reliever and not hand someone like Ryan Burr a major league job.
