He at least looks serviceable back there, which is a huge step up from some scouting reports that had him being unplayable. Now he just needs to find a way to get the bat going, which I think happens with time, at least again RHP.
The best is Phil citing the “platoon” advantage in defense of Tony playing Leury despite the fact that five seconds of research would quickly show otherwise. Phil is legit one of the worst baseball commentators in the game right now, which is funny because I used to love reading his Tribune pieces as a kid. The more you know though.
Agree. TLR supposedly plays the bench guys so much to keep them fresh, but is going to have Mercedes have five straight off days outside of pinch hitting. I actually like that Tony is holding Yermin accountable for his actions, but I would tried punishing him a different way given the broader circumstances.
With 19 games against the Twins left, we basically control our own fate. If we play them tough, we could make things very challenging for them. I really hope we can somehow go 4-2 in these upcoming two series against them and push the Twins even further behind us.
No rational person could actually believe this. Leury Garcia has a career 68 wRC+ against RHP while Nick Madrigal has a 124 wRC+. Nick has shown so far to be almost twice as effective against RHP as Leury. Garcia is not good from the left-side of the plate and there are 1,142 plate appearances to support that. I’m not joking when I say this, but Tony just not look at basic splits as insane as that sounds.
I didn’t laugh at your post and I get what you’re saying, but there is a balance here and rocking an ice cold Leury in 60% of games just seems crazy to me no matter what. I honestly think La Russa is overvaluing Leury’s switch-hitting ability and doesn’t realize that he is bad against RHP.
Our WR room is still pretty weak. Robinson is a stud and Mooney is promising, but we really need to invest in the position. Mooney is the only legit guy we have under contract after this season. You don’t trade up for a QB prospect and then stop adding weapons because of guys like Goodwin & Miller. We should be going all in the offense now.
When was the front office supposed to help him sooner though? He basically spent all of 2018 & 2019 rehabbing from his Achilles injury and then got into shape prior to last season.
So basically never invest in the position unless you are the worst team in football the handful of years a can't miss QB prospect is available? Sounds like a great plan!
I’ve got nothing but love for you buddy, but this is just crazy. You wouldn’t have taken Burrow last year? In all honesty, you don’t deserve a franchise QB if Manning/Luck/Lawrence are your standards.
