  1. No one in the world is buying White Sox tickets for Carlos fucking Gonzalez...you’re taking this marketing stuff way too far Caulfield.
  2. I’d honestly rather have Jay than Cargo.
  3. You do remember when he called it a good offseason right? Said his colleagues told him so.
  4. At least Santana is somewhat in line with the market if heathy. Nova is a gross overpay at this point.
  5. Thanks for the info patc and very interesting theory. Glad I was totally off-base with the 18 month recovery.
  6. I thought he was simply going in to evaluate options? Can they really just pull off this type of surgery that same day or was Hahn full of shit? Regardless, when will he likely be back? Maybe I’m missing something, but if it’s an 18 month reocery would he miss the entire 2019 season plus most of the 2020 season as well? Talk about the worst possible timing.
  7. Which is true, but run him out there until he gets hurt and then call up Adam if need be. I think there’s a much better chance Leury develops into an actual useful player / trade chip than Engel.
  8. Also, in regards to Nuñez, I don’t want to be that guy, but dude struck out in 27% of his plate appearances. It does seem like he was making hard contact when he connected, but he’ll get eaten alive in full season ball if he doesn’t develop some plate discipline.
  9. What is Fegan getting at when he says he look like a DUDE? Like his play is simply standing out or that physically he’s shown some serious growth?
  10. From what I saw of him last year, he didn’t look noticeably bad behind the plate, but that doesn’t necessarily mean much and it’s really hard to tell much from the camera angles they use on the MILB TV app. I remain skeptical simply based on the vast amount of reports criticizing his defense, but am keeping a small sliver of hope he can figure his shit out this year.
  11. Birmingham will definitely be the most interesting rotation once Hansen is promoted. I’m a huge Lambert fan and really think Flores has a chance to make it as a major league starter despite his low K rate. Even Medeiros should be a fun guy to follow. Winston-Salem to me is far and away the most boring, although I’m excited to see how McClure looks this year. He is way more interesting to me than Henzman, but I may be in the minority there. I do feel that Kannapolis rotation could be a bit of a sleeper. Really high on Stiever and am banking that the Sox’s optimism in Pilkington is warranted. We really need one of those guys to step up and cement themselves as a top 10 system guy.
  12. I did a quick check before I made my initial post and it sounded like he should be ready for the start of the season, but it’s possible that information is dated.
  13. Thanks for sharing. Thought Tomshaw was gone and didn’t realize Martinez had been released. Also, good call on the Charlotte #5 spot as there’s a good chance it’s Santana.
  14. Just demote Engel and go with some combo of Leury & Jay in CF. Far from ideal, but I’d like to see Palka get the majority of ABs in RF and I’ve seen enough of Adam to know he’s nothing more than a 4th OF.
  15. Part of the problem when you have such a long-term focused / build-from-within organizational culture. Given that we’ll never be on the forefront of changes in analytics & player development, we really need a constant flow of outside hires to make sure we’re not falling way behind.
  16. They did protect Stephens on the 40. Maybe they just see him as a future reliever, but I’d wager they think there’s a non zero chance he can be a starter.
  17. Given the questions surrounding our major league rotation as well as the rash of injuries that have hit some of our pitching prospects, I thought it would be a fun exercise to project out our minor league rotations and discuss the overall strengths & weaknesses of the system. Here are my current projections. I’m sure I’ve got many of these wrong but wanted to put a baseline out there so we can debate what’s right or wrong. Charlotte: Dylan Cease Jordan Stephens Jordan Guerrero* Spencer Adams Donn Roach Birmingham: Kodi Medeiros* Jimmy Lambert Bernardo Flores* Luis Martinez Tanner Banks* Winston-Salem: Alec Hansen Lincoln Henzman Blake Battenfield John Parke* Kade McClure Kannapolis: Konner Pilkington* Jonathan Stiever Codi Heuer Taylor Varnell* Jason Bilous
  18. Yeah, that podcast wasn’t a fun listen and outlines many of our biggest concerns with the state of the rebuild.
  19. Totally agree. And honestly, my biggest issue right now is we’re using two rotation spots on guys that realistically have no long-term role on the team. If the rest of the rotation had no question marks and we were simply waiting on Kopech & Cease, then maybe I could see it, but that’s simply not the case. Giolito is a total wild card at this point and not exactly a good one. Rodon hasn’t been able to make 30 starts once in his career and is only under control for two seasons after this coming one. And with Dunning going down, we just lost our best internal option to fill in as needed. IMO, we should be giving younger guys like Banuelos, Stephens, a shot instead of the Nova’s & Santana’s of the world even if the odds of them working out is low. If we go into next season and both Rodon & Giolito are still question marks or even busts, our ability to put together a competitive rotation will prove to be very challenging.
  20. I don’t get the Nova move whatsoever, unless Cooper has identified an arsenal change that will greatly improve his production. Right now, he looks a back of the rotation innings eater with little to no trade value potential. I would have much rather gambled on someone with some level of upside or just given a younger arm (like Bañuelos) a shot at the #5 spot.
  21. At a very minimum, he seems like he has a decent shot of being a solid weak side of a catching platoon, which is why I’m surprised Caulfield is hating on him so much.
  22. I don’t understand your disdain for Zavala, seems like he made some serious progress defensively last year.
