  1. Semien @ AAA - 1 Hit, a HR. No K's, 6BB.
  2. Its sort of bonkers to think that if he keeps hitting them at near his current rate, Davidson could still get to 20 homers this year. They might be his only hits but that is still power at least. Have to hope he bounces back.
  3. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 12:31 PM) I thought that if you picked up a Comp Bal pick that you got the slot money for that pick added to your pool. So the Sox would still have the $9.5M that they already have but then they would get another $1.5M to correspond to that pick. Actually, I believe you are correct. Now this seems like it would be an even better move. Marlins have another comp balance pick, and are rumored to be looking to add. The Rox and Brewers are competing and may be looking to add. So there are possibilities.
  4. If the Sox land one of the CB picks wouldn't he almost have to draft under slot at #3? That might mean Nola, who I would be ok with.
  5. EJohnson - no hits, 7BB, 1K thru 3 Has a high profile guy in our org flamed out like this before? Like, a top 100 prospect just not able to find the strike zone at all? There has to be something wrong with him right?
  6. Chris Sale is ours and you can't have him.
  7. Sox making Eric Stults look like Chris Sale.
  8. The only guy i'd give an F at this point is Paulino - he just isn't a professional-quality pitcher right now. Overall grades - Offense - B+/ Surprisingly competent, the offense has kept this team average. Strikeouts still a problem but that seems common to most teams lately Defense - C / Few glaringly bad spots, the outfield has a lack of range and catching is a mixed bag. Up the middle is strong. Bullpen - C - / Started godawful, has moved towards average. Still far too many BB and not enough K. Starting - B- / Sale and Quintata getting it done, the rest is up and down (Noesi, Danks, Rienzo) or just awful (Paulino, Johnson) Coaching - B / Robin gets a bad rap but he has improved considerably, literally every fan complains about game management. Coop is awesome. Health - D / Unusually bad health this year, the White Sox have been the victims of plenty of nagging injuries and one season ender. Hoping this regresses to average. Overall C+ / Team is much stronger than anticipated, a rotation is starting to emerge, when Abreu gets back this could be a fun team (until they deal Beckham and Alexei to free up the logjam jk)
  9. A groundballing lefty with no track record, we could be in for a loooong night
  10. The Phillies could just clean up this year if they were to trade Utley, but that isn't a very RA Jr thing to do.
  11. For example, the .7 WAR the Sox have gotten from 2B this year places them 15th overall and 1.2 WAR better than the Orioles, who are ostensibly competing for the AL East crown.
  12. Now is the moment to move, and move on from, Gordon Beckham. The Sox have a number of options to replace him, he is going to be expensive soon, and he is starting to hit better. The BJs would be a good org to target since they have a lot of interesting pitching in the lower levels - a guy like Chase De Jong might be a reasonable return for a guy who, as recently as this offseason, was considered "cooked". Other potential buyers include the Orioles, Braves, maybe even the A's. Looking at Fangraphs, a surprising number of competitors have gotten diddly squat from the keystone this year.
  13. I think the question at this point is not whether he is good but whether he will ever be good again. At this point the eight ball is saying all signs point to no, but who knows.
  14. On the plus side he got 4x more ground outs than flyouts with a 5/1 K/BB ratio.
  15. He isn't hitting for power and he has a 6/1 K/BB ratio. That's not good.
  16. The talk of shying from Kolek could be hot air or positioning for negotiations. Scouting Beede just shows they haven't decided yet. The quote "you'd have to be working for a bad team" about Kolek clearly means he will be drafted in the first five picks - the bad teams.
  17. After Sale gets back i'd love a rotation of Sale Q Noesi (until he fails, he is the best bet here) Danks Rienzo Carroll should go back to Charlotte but in the event of another injury he can be first guy up. I think Rienzo's long term future is the pen but no hurry to put him there.
  18. It was a wild ride guys I hope he had a lot of fun
  19. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ May 7, 2014 -> 07:50 PM) We dont have to all assume the people we're arguing against are taking wildly extreme viewpoints. Take this away and there is no SoxTalk. Wildly extreme viewpoints and overreacting are the glue that holds the gears of this society together.
  20. It certainly helps that Verlander looks pretty average tonight. He is missing a lot of his spots.
  21. Signing top FA talent may cost draft picks - have to wait and see how the market shakes out w/ regards to the qualifying offer. I think if the Sox are in striking distance they should not let that deter them from filling holes long term and building a strong farm. Fortunately they don't have to trade anyone but Dunn and some bullpen guys before the year is out. They have the offseason to field offers for guys like Danks, Alexei, Dayan, etc.
  22. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 08:07 PM) On a whim, and based on what I saw, I just went to FG and checked De Aza's BABIP and now I see that Tyler stole all of his luck. His K and BB rates are exactly in line with last year but he is hitting WTF Baseball Gods.

  24. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) Sure luck has been on Flowers' side, but lets not forget that bloops coming from very strong hitters.......those often are not necessarily all 'luck.' If you're really strong, you have the ability to fight off pitches into the shallow OF that weaker hitters cannot. So if you're doing that it's not entirely 'luck' as it is happening because of an ability you bring to the table. Otherwise, we're then saying the only 'earned' hits are the beautiful looking ones, and that is not true. Its a little more than just Flowers being lucky. He has been supremely, extraordinarily lucky. His K% is right around 35% like it was last year. At some point this year he is going to be unusable as a major league catcher - i'm just glad he delayed the need for action by a couple months.
