  1. Still a good hitter, not a great one, assume he is primary DH. Its just money, so ok.
  2. Actually can't comment without knowing the third team involved, and also the "+" Bruce is definitely a good target - the Reds are facing a payroll crunch, he is still young, and coming off an injury-induced bad season. He will likely be good in 2015. I am very wary of trading Q though. Contracts like that don't grow on trees.
  3. For Q+ it better be Bruce + Stephenson and other parts.
  4. Pretty even trade, assuming Heyward is a 5-win player again and Miller bounces back to be a 1.5 win or so pitcher.
  5. I thnk (hope?) that was a joke by Kalapse, as i'm pretty certain Harden retired. They are pretty similar pitchers, but Johnson seems to be injured even more than Harden.
  6. A dude like Noesi might thrive in PetCo Park. It would probably take more than that to get Grandal even with his value way down.
  7. Based on the threads i've been reading this off-season, no one. Every thread starts with "Are we interested in this player?" and within a page becomes an argument. "[X] players has [Y] warts and (trading for/signing) him would literally destroy the White Sox entire franchise."
  8. Ethier makes the most sense, either in a contract swap for Danks or with the Dodgers eating significant money. Crawford would be nice but he has the "downside" of being actually pretty useful and probably wouldn't come cheap. Kemp's situation is kind of weird/unique and i'm not sure if he can be moved.
  9. Yeah i'd love to have the kid, and I think the Sox could get him, but it would be emptying the farm for one year of a guy certain to go to FA. Doesn't really fit Hahn's MO.
  10. Dunno if this has been pointed out, but the A's need a SS. I could see an Alexei for Shark trade working out, with some other parts moving in the deal. Probably an A's prospect to Chicago.
  11. Some team will probably give the Rox a couple MLB caliber players for CarGo once he proves he's healthy. Hopefully it isn't the Sox.
  12. Well, Conger is pre-arb, so he is cost controlled. He also has upside, as a lefty catcher entering his "prime" years. This also allows them to explore moving Castro, who will likely earn 4M+ next year in arb. Considering that the 'Stos might add something like 20M in payroll, every little bit helps. Also, Houston is flush with great pitching prospects, and they would likely encounter some kind of roster crunch down the road. Good on the Angels for exploiting that.
  13. Problem with CarGo is that the Rox are not going to be able to move him. If they trade one of their stars for a package like beau proposed, it looks really bad for them. That is basically scraps. But no team is going to flush 53 million on a guy like CarGo AND give up premium talent without a guarantee he returns to form next year. Basically, its a stalemate. He won't be moved this offseason, i'd "put my house on it".
  14. Yeah Rockies FO is really weird / unpredictable the last few years. Not sure the franchise has any direction, and this would seem to be proof of that.
  15. Controversial opinion - I'd rather have Rasmus.
  16. Depends on if Hahn brings him in as a 4th OF / defensive sub type, or a starting LF or RF. He would be great as the former and pretty bad as the latter. But a team might value him as a starter and sign him for 3+ years. No thanks to that deal.

One of the big reasons Brown tanked this year is a dramatic, probably unsustainable collapse of his HR/FB rate. It is distinctly possible that it rebounds and he becomes a 30HR guy. I think they would want more than Viciedo but I would be fine giving them slightly more than nothing instead of nothing.
  18. At the GM meetings, Hahn trades a Sugar Daddy to Nats GM Mike Rizzo for a fun size Snickers. The deal is widely praised as a steal, though Morosi questions why Hahn got a Snickers when he had a full size Milky Way in his briefcase.
  19. QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 06:02 AM) Assuming they sign: 1. Rodon 2. Anderson 3. Hawkins 4. M. Johnson 5. Sanchez 6. Beck 7. Montas 8. Danish 9. Michalczewski 10. E. Johnson or M. Davidson, with the other at 11 and both with a chance to bounce back. For now i'll treat Adams like most treated Danish last year - lots of potential, too early to make the list. Not much has changed since no one really busted out in the second half. Adams is really the standout post-ASB performance. 1. Rodon 2. Anderson 3. M. Johnson 4. Hawkins 5. Adams 6. Danish 7. Montas 8. Sanchez 9. Michalczewski 10. Davidson Beck, Rondon, Bassitt and Thompson are probably next on the list.
  20. White Sox sign Chase Headley, 3 yrs 42 M White Sox acquire Matt Joyce for Javy Guerra, Andre Wheeler White Sox acquire Dom Brown for Dayan Viciedo and Chris Beck White Sox sign Brandon Morrow, 1y 7 M, Andrew Miller 3 yrs / 22 M, Luke Hochevar 1 y 4 M w/ option, Andrew Bailey 1 y 3 M Chad Billingsley (minor league deal) White Sox acquire Stephen Vogt for Carlos Sanchez Lineup: CF Eaton 3B Headley RF Garcia 1B Abreu DH Dom Brown 2B Semien LF Matt Joyce SS Alexei C Flowers C Vogt IF Saladino / outside depth piece for ~1M (Ramon Santiago?) IF Gillaspie OF Moises SP Chris Sale SP Jose Quintana SP John Danks SP Hector Noesi SP Brandon Morrow RP A Miller RP Hochevar RP Putnam RP Petricka RP Bassitt RP Bailey RP Snodgress/Surkamp/Webb Room to improve in rotation, Morrow will eventually be hurt, but is good when healthy. Rodon can arrive when the time comes. Danks moved if pitching well, if not, ???. Lineup looks pretty good. should add 45-50 mil or so, a possible contending team. Short contracts for pitchers affords some flexibility. Only positional FA is Matt Joyce, eminently replaceable. not totally unrealistic.
  21. Donger for Anderson. In a very SSS he is hitting quite well.
  22. I don't count on him to start the season. This is why the Sox should bring in some depth starters in the offseason. Very likely he will need some seasoning, and even if he doesn't it won't hurt to get another year of service time out of him.

I think Markakis will get Swisher money. He wouldn't be a bad choice.

I think Russ Martin is probably not a priority. Get an able backup to Flowers to catch 2-3 times a week. Vogt or Jaso (terrible defense I know, and not FA) would be ideal. I think Scherzer is out of the price range for sure. He is going to get a megadeal. I don't see Martinez leaving Detroit but he makes a lot of sense and will only require ~3 years. I would guess they sign a midrange position player, like Melky or Headley, and use a lot of cash to front load the bullpen Sign some depth starters (Morrow I like, maybe R Hernandez, some other less impressive guys) and a bench piece or two. I think if any top of the line players are acquired it will be thru trade.
  25. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 03:55 PM) There you go. So Law says that with Montas quickly emerging into a front-line starter prospect, the Sox will have 4 in the top 100 (Montas plus presumably Anderson, Rodon and ?). So that brings up a good question - do we move Quintana or [gasp] Sale to bring in some top flight positional talent? They shouldn't until they are more certain that these guys will make it as starters in the majors. The upshot of waiting with Quintana is that even at 6-10 million a year (like 2017-18) he still has loads of value, assuming current production persists.
