  1. How about this compromise? Ricketts is both correct in his assertion that the White Sox draw poorly, AND he is a bad owner who has done little but ruin the Cubs since buying the team? See? Both are possible!
  2. Yeah Tommy boy needs to take care of his own before he talks smack. His tenure with the Cubs leaves a lot to be desired.
  3. You have to balance success this year against success in coming years. The Sox aren't able to spend any more based on their talk. Getting an upgrade at this point is increasingly difficult. 4/5 starter and another bullpen guy, but those will be cheap in a few weeks. All this team needs now is depth, and then to see how the first couple months shake out.
  4. Looks like Phegley is going to be the weak half of a platoon. Watch him be better than Flowers this season.
  5. Actually re-reading, he mentions getting "creative" which probably means trading Danks and eating a lot of his salary, or taking on another bad contract. Maybe a Carl Crawford trade?
  6. QUOTE (kev211 @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 10:33 PM) Why would KWs method of cutting payroll involve getting rid of Q or Sale? They're both cheap. Not cutting payroll, but filling the LF hole, and possibly others, with good talent at affordable rates.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 10:28 PM) I was thinking it was trading Alexei for prospects to cut payroll. Maybe, although that isn't really too drastic considering it was being discussed up until the Winter Meetings.
  8. Garcia has upside so that 0 could be a 2 pretty easily. Other than that, seems pretty accurate. More back of the rotation options pleez
  9. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 16, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) Is there any chance that the O's might be a fit for Tank? They have made no moves this off season and they have lost OF talent. Iono I'm just trying to think of what might fit if this M's ship has sailed. Didn't even see your post. Great minds, I guess.
  10. I could see maybe the Orioles, to replace Delmon Young and DH a fair bit. What other teams need a RH with serious defensive limitations?
  11. Well Junior Griffey played CF for the Sox and Ichiro is more mobile than he was.
  12. Crasnick is the only guy who tweeted this, right?
  13. Ichiro @ 1M would be ok w/ me
  14. Gonna assume its Byrd until it isn't.
  15. Steamer projections are pretty basic so I am not fretting about this. Like Sullivan, I want to see the ZiPS projections. I don't expect huge improvement but a zips projection around ~30 WAR overall would not be far-fetched.
  16. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) Those relievers you mentioned are all on my wish list. I'd love any one of them. No need for EY Jr. We have 3 4th OFs in Danks, Shuck and Campana already. But Campana and Jordan Danks are terrible and Shuck isn't a CF. Anyways, I think the next move will be depth for OF or SP. At least, I hope it is.
  17. There are some decent relief options floating around now, with Varvaro, Medlan, Wes Wright, and Casey Janssen all floating out there. I'd take just about any of them. Other than that, maybe Eric Young Jr to be 4th OF? He is fast and can defend all three OF positions.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) Hector Noesi (Sox): 4.85 FIP John Danks: 4.76 FIP Not sure I get why you're so high on Noesi, but hate Danks with a vengeance. Probably difference in salary. Neither is good and if the Sox are winning, both are likely to be replaced.
  19. Living in Boston means that I can't support the team as much as i'd like. That won't stop me from buying an Abreu shirsey and wearing it to those three games in July.
  20. Not at all. If a confirmed cheater was the best player on the team, I might scoff a bit, but it wouldn't stop me. If that cheater was a huge jerk, then I might be turned off. Melky is a role player on the Sale/Abreu Sox. Just relax and enjoy the adequate.
  21. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) Gotta build interest in the team and create some excitement around here. This is a nice step towards that. Look at the attendance figures during Konerko's era. The fanbase can be jumpstarted. Right or wrong, people around here got really down on guys like Dunn and Rios. In the case of Rios I think it was more the image he put out there than production (as he had some really good stretches with us). Maybe the new guys become a repeat of that, but you have to try and hope this bunch becomes an era the fanbase rallies around. Seems like so long ago when this team had a core group that the fans invented reasons to find lovable. Hell AJ was lovable here. Having marketable young starts will help drive interest. Winning games should do the rest. Brooks Boyer has his work cut out for him this year. Media blitz, hammer home Sale/Abreu, market Eaton as the guy Swish was supposed to be, and come up with a better sales pitch than "All In".
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 08:44 AM) Might wanna update that LF ranking. All he has to do is update the name. Position is still correct. Not really a knock on Melky its just the ALC has a lot of good LFers
  23. Maybe DV to Mets for Dillon Gee? They are said to be looking for a RH bat off the bench, and the WS definitely need SP depth. Gee is no great shakes but Hahn isn't getting much for DV anyways.
  24. They certainly addressed the biggest deficiencies. Very impressive work. The team still needs another RP and some SP depth, and a real 4th OF would be nice, but those are minor additions.
