  1. QUOTE (WCSox @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 10:12 PM) Yep, Terrero was hitting the snot out of the ball when he came up in '07. I saw him absolutely swat a pitch over the left field wall at Safeco. I don't think that the ball was even on its downslope by the time that it hit the seats. I seem to remember him hitting a home run ridiculously deep into the stands at the cell, like a few rows short of the concourse type deep.
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 12:19 AM) http://legacy.signonsandiego.com/sports/pa...17padnotes.html Wow, didn't know this. Don't scare me like that.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 01:19 PM) Fantastic. I really think this makes a ton of sense. I don't think it drags out that long because I think the Yankees will tell him no sooner than that. I am a little leery of this because his main desire is to play some OF. It makes sense if he were a pure DH, but even splitting time in the field isn't a very good idea IMO.
  4. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) Well, I cannot see into the future, of course, so I don't know exactly what he's going to do next season. And you are absolutely right - we won't know anything until it's all said and done. However, I think it's perfectly acceptable to suggest his performance next year will more than likely resemble that what it has been in four out of the five years he's been around, including the last three in a row. It would seem this 2006 season from three years ago is the exception rather than the rule. And even if he does return to this over-ballyhooed production of his from the 2006 season, we're still not talking about any great shakes here. Yeah, he hit .290 that year, but he registered fewer than 20 homeruns and 70 RBIs. This is what we're hoping to get out of a corner infielder with no speed and a less-than-glowing reputation with the glove? Oh brother! What is up with the obsession with homeruns and RBI's? Especially RBI's... that would probably be the last stat I would look at, if I even looked at it at all, for judging how good of a hitter somebody is. It's such a team dependent stat, and the Kansas City Royals aren't exactly going to put a huge number of men on base for him to drive them in. That being said, I wouldn't expect a whole lot from Teahen this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was more 2006 than 2008-9 this season.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) We don't need Halladay, but it couldn't hurt to have him. Do we try to pluck Upton and Navarro (a non-tender guy), while sending the pieces to both sides to try to seal the deal? Can we? What's the upside for the Jays here? Who are they getting? I think it actually hurts us more than helps us to acquire Halladay. It's bad enough to deplete our farm system, but adding that salary to an already expensive rotation just doesn't seem prudent at all. I don't think we could even afford him without dumping another contract if these current payroll estimates are correct. Getting Upton on the other hand is intriguing. I think I would probably do the deal for him.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) Ah. Interesting. That could be an incredible fit for the Sox. I wonder if that is why Kenny played coy when Roy's name came up? Anything is possible, but I think Kenny just gets off on that kind of stuff.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 05:15 PM) I think Ozzie needs to get over this 'I want my DH to be able to play the field' crap. I mean players for the most part that are DH's are DH's for a reason. I don't care if my DH can't play the field. I want my DH to mash. +1
  8. QUOTE (Ranger @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) I will pistol whip the next person that says "Shenanigans." "Shenanigans."
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 02:11 AM) Not even close. The Mets are overpaying for a backup player that can only play one position (though he does it well) for essentially the same cost that the Sox got for 2 guys who play 6 positions at an above average clip who are more than likely going to be more effectively offensively than Blanco is. The Sox did just fine backing away from this one. I don't disagree with that. I was just speculating as to how this move affected the Sox. He was the only guy they have been linked to, but I suppose if there's one under-the-radar move you could make it would be for back-up catcher. Personally, I would want Flowers in AAA anyways.
  10. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Henry Blanco signed a 1 year, $1.5M deal with the Mets. Welcome back to Chicago, Tyler Flowers?
  11. QUOTE (Ranger @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) I may be willing to do that if it were Jordan Danks. Only may?
  12. QUOTE (Ranger @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 01:23 AM) That's a gross over exaggeration. If all of those guys produce to what is expected of them, that's not a below average lineup. While I agree with the bold part above, that's a fairly big leap to make. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Quentin was hampered to the point of ineffectiveness by injuries for the rest of his career. I wouldn't be surprised if Rios and Teahen continued to underperform either, and who knows how Crisp would even rebound from his surgeries. Even if you grant that some guys like AJ, Konerko, and Matsui/Thome won't decline from their previous seasons because you can really question whether anybody in baseball will be as good as they were last season, none of them are getting any younger. Konerko and Thome have already started to decline, and AJ is pretty much due for a regression anyways. If they all produce what is expected of them, they could be anywhere between average and above average depending upon your expectations, but there is just as good of a chance that they all implode than they all succeed.
  13. I don't really blame our lackluster offense on Greg Walker, but at some point he has to be held accountable for the poor offenses we have seen. If nothing else, it may do some good just to have a new approach being taken in the clubhouse.
  14. Why would they trade for a mediocre closer when they already have a better one? It makes no sense.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 05:43 PM) The problem is that he's a waste of a 25 man spot. He has no versatility nor can he play full time anymore. Is a 20 HR 65 RBI .225 BA 100+K season worth clogging up the bases and taking up a spot that a kid could take? I'm just curious as to why people seem so obsessed with our DH being able to play the field. How good a guy is at defense is probably the last thing I consider when looking for a DH. It's a nice plus, but he's going to be spending most if not all of his time off the field anyways.
  16. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 10:31 PM) I really didn't get anything out of that article that I haven't seen people write on here...except maybe for Carlos having off-season sessions with Walker (which not sure if that's good or not...but couldn't hurt). Sorry...but the money Figgins will want won't be well spent here IMO. I honestly can't see all that many changes except for maybe trading for Crawford. But Kenny will probably pull something outta his arse that'll surprise everybody. I just can't see where Figgins would play. Jack of all trades...master of none. Rios-CF Rather keep him there. Not crazy about Figgins as FT 3B. To be honest if this team is serious about contending I could see more of a Brian Roberts addition than Figgins. But that's just me... It wouldn't be a white sox offseason without Brian Roberts.
  17. Do you think there's a reasonable estimate you could come up with for how much our arbitration eligible players will make, or is there just no way to tell roughly how much they will make?
  18. While Kenny didn't really "win" the second swisher trade, it was still a good move considering the circumstances. Swisher was not getting along with or listening to the coaches, and he was getting payed a good amount of money to do so. The real thing to criticize is trading for swisher in the first place; Swisher is just not a major league center fielder.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) It's the Cubs fan mindset. There's always 2020.
  20. It's ok to be racist if you aren't white.
  21. Serious memo, or an attempt to light a fire under this team's collective a**?
  22. Seriously, what is up with Upchurch?
  23. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 07:04 PM) Not to quibble but Crede has been a below average offensive player at his position for basically his entire career sans 2006. Don't let stats get in the way of his cult hero status.
  24. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) I wonder if Beckham will ever get a day off? As soon as Getz gets back, I bet.
