  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 09:55 PM) Mark Teahen at first? I'm not going to like this. Not to mention we now lost one of our three decent hitters.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 01:42 PM) Did anyone else notice that every manager in baseball is a complete idiot because none of them used the lineup that statistically was best? How good is this stat, really, how good is it? I'm asking cause I don't know, but I find it odd that every manager in baseball went with the wrong lineup. I'm not really sure of the specifics behind the best lineup statistics, but I do remember seeing one that suggested Jim Thome be our leadoff hitter a couple years back, which is something I don't think any manager would even consider. So, it probably just conflicts with the more conventional approach to baseball like many statistics seem to do today. Speaking of Big Jim, this line up could really use him right about now...
  3. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) Well, we could give our players more than one game before we trash them. What teams do you guys see that don't have faults? What teams with equal or lower payrolls would you trade our roster for? I don't think I was trashing any player specifically, more like Ozzie's use of said players. I just think that Kotsay shouldn't be an everyday player and that he should be in the lower part of the order when he does play. Yeah, Mark Kotsay could theoretically be a great hitter because we can't rule anything out before it happens, but I see absolutely no reason whatsoever that would point to this conclusion. I understand that all teams are going to have faults one way or another and that not every player plays like they are expected or predicted to. However, that doesn't mean we should just ignore our faults and pretend like they don't exist because of the one in a million chance a player plays way over their head for a season. In the beginning of the season, you should build the line up based upon reasonable expectations and adjust for which players are under performing and over performing after some meaningful baseball has been played. Ozzie isn't doing this right now, which is the entire point of this thread.
  4. QUOTE (Ranger @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) That is a completely different argument. Positions on the field are irrelevant in determining positions in the lineup. I seriously think we need to stop overvaluing this DH thing, I do not believe it will make or break them. You're going to drive me nuts with this line Ranger. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) Well, it's who we have on our team. You can b**** about it for the next six months. The past three months of b****ing about it really has accomplished a lot. Let's just not argue anything, and we can shut down Soxtalk for the winter. I think that people defending Kotsay in the 5th spot are putting too much weight on alternating L/R in the line up. You should have your better hitter higher in the order regardless of the way he bats. To me, it's kind of like trying to make an argument that you should pinch hit for Beckham in a situation where you need runs because the other team brings in a tough right-handed reliever. I'd rather have Beckham batting rather than some left-handed bench player. Ideally, you can split up your order like Ozzie likes to, but you shouldn't sacrifice the quality of your line up just to do so.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) That says 5000...not sure if we have that power. Only need 408 more.
  6. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) So call it an opinion. Relax. You didn't state it as an opinion.
  7. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) i'm fine with Rios in right...he's an elite elite defender in RF while his metrics suggest hes somehwat above average in CF....i know jones was just an average CF in center when he played there in 08, but in 07 his UZR was a damn good 22.2 ....If he is as in shape as he looks, and given the fact that our CF isn't huge...I actually believe this may be our best defensive OF ...and it will help keep quentin healthy Will it keep Jones healthy, though?
  8. QUOTE (Ultimate Warrior @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) Son of a b****.... I lol'd.
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) So, the top ten highlights that they made didn't have the Konerko Grand Slam in game 2 of the World Series, or the Pods walk-off. I think either one of those was a bit more important then Carlton Fisk hitting a home run in his debut. I think they wanted to get some older highlights so it didn't seem like the team has only existed since 2005.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) how was this? can I get a recap? http://www.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_...48&c_id=mlb
  11. QUOTE (RyanPaleAndHosed @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) Yeah I saw that. I asked him to do that, couldn't believe he did. He really got a kick out of the fact that we actually DO broadcast out of a basement. He thought that was the funniest thing... It's not as bad as our mom's basement, because Rich (partner) owns the house. So, at least we've got that going for us. Tell that to Joe Cowley, and you can probably get him to call you guys trekkies on twitter.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) It's also beyond his control if Ozzie uses him inappropriately. That was kind of the comparison I was going for there with the Wise situation. I don't think anybody has been bashing Kotsay directly, though. When I've complained about our DH situation, I know I haven't at least.
  13. QUOTE (Real @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) It's not you. Out of our starters, he has missed the most starts I think Hasn't he been battling some sort of nagging injury, though? I haven't paid too much attention to this spring.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 11:55 AM) Omar Vizquel will start at DH at least 10 times. Twice as bold as my prediction.
  15. Let's not forget that Freddy is a breaking ball pitcher as well.
  16. Omar Vizquel DH's at least 5 times.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) From Mr. Gonzales article in Trib. It's obvious Oz loves Kotsay. Hopefully this guy can hit like Oz thinks he can. This will end poorly.
  18. QUOTE (Felix @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 12:54 AM) I've grown to really dislike Ozzie, especially as he continues to have a significant impact on the roster construction of the team. He's not the GM, and he shouldn't be given that type of power over the organization. Given that this team is essentially the one that he wants (minus a little grit and determination), I think he'll be on the hot seat should his attempts to play NL ball in the AL fail miserably. I agree with all of this, except that I believe he's on the hot seat for actually having a say in this team's construction. The moves this off season have obviously been shifting this team closer to the NL style that Ozzie prefers, and I think the front office is just giving him a chance to have his style of team. If his ideas fail like many here believe they will, Ozzie will be officially removed from having a large role in how the team is put together, but I feel his actual job as manager will never be in question, unless of course the next couple teams completely bomb.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 02:10 AM) Great answer Kalapse. I would think someday he'll regret his stance. Baseball is a pretty easy job. He could make $1 mill a year plus incentives easily to hit a f***ing baseball. He is being dumb. Couldn't have said it better myself.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 12:15 AM) Or one day he just says or does something that is too bad for the Organization to excuse him for. Like? I can't really think of anything that isn't just an impossible scenario.
  21. QUOTE (WCSox @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) If the Sox play .500 ball for the next two seasons, I'd imagine that Ozzie is gone in December of 2011. Not so much because of his head-scratching lineups, but mainly because controversial figures who draw negative attention to their employers tend to not hang around indefinitely when their teams under-perform year after year. He may be controversial, but I think he's still "their guy." There are really only two ways I see Ozzie leaving this organization: either he randomly becomes completely incompetent (not going to happen) or he leaves on his own free will.
  22. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 12:54 AM) This makes me think of thise "Final Destination" movies. :-/ That was actually my first thought as well... He's had a lot of bad luck in the last year.
