  1. I think the Arrieta/dead arm thing is way overblown. He went 2-1 in the playoffs and in all honestly even if he was lights out vs. the Mets in that series, the Mets pitching was still too good and it wouldn't have made much of a difference. I thought both the Cy Young winners were deserving but I also think that Kershaw, Price and Scherzer are still the top 3 SP's in MLB.
  2. Am I the only one who thinks Hahn wants to blow it up and do a Astros/Cubs rebuild but KW and JR are standing in the way of it?
  3. Based on some of the discussion the Cubs, it's seems like their more focused on trading Castro for a SP then anyone. Baez and Soler are candidates but Schwarber, Bryant and Russell won't be moved. Baez is intriguing. Based on what I saw of him in the playoffs he seems to have cut down on the K's and has a better approach at the plate. He has 30 plus HR power and could be the Sox starting SS for the next decade. I'd be cool with that but I think another prospect would have to come with him (Happ or McKinney) for Q.
  4. Didn't Rodon have a sluggish year his senior year at NC St? I thought that's why he fell to #3.
  5. I don't think the Cubs can really afford to trade him. Schwarber is an OF/DH and Ross is only on the team because of Lester. I did recently read that the Cubs have another good Catching prospect that will most likely be the team by year's end or 2017 so maybe Montero gets moved after this season.
  6. Levine always seems like a type to me who's always been a microphone for whatever the Cubs/Sox FO's message to the fans is. The Sox spent how much last offseason and now he's trying to spin it as they are "rebuilding"? Sorry, no way. Rebuilding is what the Cubs and Houston have done. This a garbage message from Levine and possibly the Sox too saying "we blew it last year with all the signings, so we're just going to say we're rebuilding to make people feel better". If the Sox are going to rebuild then rebuild the right way.
  7. He actually did a decent job with the Cubs in his one year. If I remember they played above .500 in the 2nd half of 2014 and that was after unloading Shark, Hammel and a few others. It was also pre-Bryant, Schwarber, Russell. He's a good choice as a bench coach and is more than capable of stepping in if the Sox let Ventura go.
  8. Mets need to win tonight. As good as their pitching is, if they go down 2-0 to KC I don't see this series going more than 5.
  9. I'd say more low risk, medium reward. Really hasn't shown much at the MLB level. If he pans out he could be good out of the pen but he's not a SP anymore. I'm guessing he'll need to look really good in ST to make the roster.
  10. I've said for over a year now that I think Soler will wind up being the best of the Cubs prospects in the long run, if RH can pry him from the Cubs then do it. He's owed about 20 mil over the next 5 years, that's very team friendly.
  11. Blue Jays-Royals is going to be real, real good. Astros will be back as well.
  12. Sox have a lot of holes to fill, I don't anticipate all of them getting fixed in one offseason but we'll see.
  13. Would love to see Cespedes on the White Sox.
  14. That was fun game to watch tonight. I'm enjoying this series as a fan.
  15. My thoughts are if the Sox really want to try and compete for the ALC next year, they're going to need a big FA signing and will have to make a couple of noteworthy trades. In the end you have to give something to get something. Cespedes would be ideal here but I don't know if the Sox will buck up for him. I know it's been mentioned before but I think the Cubs are a good trade partner if something like this goes down. They have a plethora of young position players and are in need of young, good cheap pitching.
  16. Agree. The Cubs have a nice young team. Would kill to have some of those guys on the South Side.
  17. Been thinking about this since it was announced and I still think they should let Robin go. That being said the majority of this mess is on RH/KW. In all honesty there's only one guy in the Sox lineup that puts fear into opposing pitchers, until that changes the results will stay the same regardless of how good the pitching is.
  18. Of all those guys listed I think Cespedes fits the Sox the best although he will probably demand the most money. Right now the Sox have a lineup where only one guy scares other teams, you put Cespedes behind Abreu and this lineup gets better and more powerful instantly.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan85 @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 06:06 AM) That is true, but junk teams like Milwaukee and Atlanta are inexcusably bad. And during their big run, they beat these teams 11 times. The NL is just junk. Take a look at the Tigers. They beat up on the Cubs and won 2 games in a row against them. Reason...that have some guys that can swing the bat. Very unlike many NL teams. Then...boom...they play Atlanta and win 4 in a row. A perfect way to end a losing streak. Put the Cubs in any of the AL Divisions and they are no more than a .500 team. I truly believe that. Explain to me, how does a team that strikes out at such as high percentage, with a middle of the road run differential, a mediocre bullpen, and #3-5 starters that average at best to below average have such a great record? They play in a terrible NL. My problem is not necessarily with the Cubs. It is with the media that never acknowledges this fact, but is quick to acknowledge it with other Chicago teams (i.e. Bulls). It is annoying. I guess they are just living "rent free" in my head You're out of your mind, the AL is garbage this year.
  20. I would let Olt play everyday to see what he has, didn't get that shot with the Cubs this year because of Kris Bryant.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan85 @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) I certainly didn't say Arrieta is not good, he has been fantastic. But in general, that team fed off of bottom feeders in the second half. Sorry, they did. That's what good teams do, they beat bad teams.
  22. Their young talent is super impressive and they have the perfect manager for that team. They're going to be a powerhouse for a while. Regardless what you think of them, they are fun to watch. Also its never a bad thing when the Cubs are good because that's usually when the Sox FO takes notice and starts making moves. The Sox underachieving this year while the Cubs are making a playoff push (they'll make it, even if its only the WC game) isn't going over well with JR or KW.
  23. Agree, Thompson needs to be playing everyday. Sox need to know what they have in him.
