Sox not in teams watching Otani
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 08:03 AM) I understand chasing your dream and wanting to play the best but 2 years is nothing to wait for the hundreds of millions he's leaving on the table. Can he sign for just a couple years or is he subject to the six years, arbitration etc.

9/10 Sox vs Giants
So any thoughts on if this was Fulmer with his best stuff? If so then that sucks because what makes pitchers good ones is that they can still not get shelled with their mediocre or bad stuff. If this was middling stuff, then hell yea Fulmer.

Adam Engel
QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 08:04 PM) Yeah, Engel is a negative WAR player, at -0.4 fWAR in 71 games. Leury is at a +1.1 fWAR in 87 games. Leury was pretty good before the injury, and not as much thereafter. He's also got much more positional versatility than pretty much anyone else in the roster, and is a switch hitter. On balance, if it were a choice between Engel and Leury, I'd probably go with Leury, given that Engel simply can't hit enough to be a starter. I'm also not convinced that Engel is an overall better player than Tilson, but for Tilson being made of glass. I do like competition, and I would not count out any of our cavalcade of middling OF options for next season. I'd let Tilson, Engel, and Liriano duke it out for CF; I'd let Anderson and Leury duke it out @ SS for next season. I highly doubt SS gets any of the treatment you are suggesting. And if the plan is for Davidson to man 3B all year, then Leury's only chance at a starting gig is CF. Personally I think Leury is the perfect super-sub and I'd rather see a Tilson/Engel CF, leaning Engel.

Adam Engel
QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 06:29 PM) I'm 100% behind giving him the CF job, next year and giving him every opportunity to figure it out. You find fast, good defensive centerfielders, but rarely one with potential power and a good arm. It is so intriguing. Yes agree. Sorry Tilso and sorry Leury. This guy makes highlight reel catches. He has a knack for the incredible with his instincts. I love having him out there next year. And i love Engel in the Outfield!

Kopech/Jimenez win awards
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 12:02 PM) I'm totally unreasonable in my expectations for Jimenez and nobody can stop me. Haha love this. It's total buffoonery at this point

9/3 Games
QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Sep 3, 2017 -> 10:25 PM) Agreed, least exciting headlining acquisition of Hahn's for me Still think CWS should have got more in that deal Clarkin I still think will be an MLB starter (if healthy) and Polo a solid 4th OFer Yes it is confusing so far but I have to trust the Sox see something there. I mean the Sox obviously have access to the same numbers that us internet GMs have. There must be a reason they sought him other than good draft pedigree. And mercy, it looks like they hit on every pitcher they traded for.

Kopech will have a chance to win a rotation spot next spring
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 05:06 PM) For two f***ing starts in a meaningless season. I guess you don't care about the 32 starts six years from now when we should (hopefully) have a World Series caliber roster in place. This is literally one of the dumbest ideas I have ever seen and the idea we can just assume he'll be open to an extension because Boras isn't his agent is absurd. Look at the amount of pre arb extensions in recent years. There really haven't been that many of them and the number is trending down. Under no circumstance do you pass up a guaranteed extra year of control. It's really that simple. Everyone gets that man. We all agree. Everyone. I bet that's what the Sox do, in fact, pretty much everyone thinks that's what the Sox will do. That's the really SAFE bet at this point. No balls or smarts required to bet on that outcome. You claimed it was a "fireable offense" to have him break camp. I think it's ok, fun, & smart to try to come up with scenarios where that is a justified move. For the reasons people have listed above, there are ways where it makes sense.

Kopech will have a chance to win a rotation spot next spring
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) In the Sale extension - which I'd assume is the prime example of this - all he really gave up was 2 arb years & 1 "cheap" FA year (13.5m when he could have been FA making 20+) and in return guaranteed himself 30+ million as a 24 year old vs. risking it he could have probably made ~20m more. To me those deals still seem like no brainers to for both sides. Totally. As a young guy why is risking everything over $10-20 million a smart thing to do? Those deals do seem like no brainers. So you get to free agency a year later. If you're as good as you think you are, you're still going to get that $100-200M contract, just a year later. Sure maybe you lose a year on it or something, but to me that far outweighs the risk of flaming out with only a couple million.

Kopech will have a chance to win a rotation spot next spring
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 10:28 AM) Not waiting two weeks to ensure an extra year of control would be a fireable offense IMO. I can't believe there are people on this site who would be ok with. Completely mind-boggling. But everyone gets that point of view- that's not even something one can make a stance on or even argue- like water is wet. It's looking at the human side and the long term that makes it interesting to talk about. Forgive me if you were being funny.

Kopech will have a chance to win a rotation spot next spring
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 10:52 PM) I think service time is a much smaller concern in pitchers than it is hitters. Boras clients notwithstanding, pitchers seem very keen on locking in extensions once they are able. If Kopech breaks camp with the big league club and is lights out for his first two full seasons it is very likely he will lock-in a below-market extension (that would still make him set for life) rather than risk injury for four more seasons waiting on a massive payday. The Sox probably already have some idea of Kopech's camps willingness to embark on such an extension, and if they feel its a strong possibility there is really no reason for Kopech to waste his talents in Charlotte. Nice point man. I like that you've outlined how it's not always as cut & dry as "gain extra year=smart" and "not gain extra year=dumb". The respect gained by letting him break camp if he's earned it could pay out tenfold in the long run (likeliness of extension due to goodwill increases dramatically) compared to the extra year of time.

8/27 White Sox Winner and recent run of solid pitching
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 27, 2017 -> 10:04 PM) Over the last 20 games the Sox have gone 11-9. They just concluded an 8 home stand going 5-3 . The recent run is because of solid pitching mostly from Rodon, Gonzalez and Shields and a surprising decent run from the bullpen. It has also coincided with a hot streak from Nicky Delmonico to offset games missed from Matt Davidson who proves his worth with a 3 run bomb in today's win. Tim Anderson and Yolmer Sanchez have contributed walk off hits in this stretch . Matt Davidson had 2 walk off hits in a row right before this 20 game stretch so the Sox have been playing some exciting baseball. Reynaldo Lopez had a solid debut in a game the Sox eventually won. Lucas Giolito has had a solid and very good start going 1-1 in his 2 starts. They won the series against the Tigers without help from Delmonico and Moncada who both were placed on the DL prior to the series . Moncada also had been playing some exciting ball recently showing off the wheels and contributing to late inning wins. It's probably no coincidence that the Sox bullpen has improved with the good starting pitching easing the bullpen load. Over his last 58 AB's Avi Garcia has 25 hits for a .431 batting average .493 OBP . 500 SLG and ,993 OPS . Avi has been reduced to a singles hitter during this span with only 4 doubles in those 25 hits . This is probably due to recent hand/wrist injuries . Give him credit though . Right when he was slumping and average creeping back toward .300 he has upped it back to .322 . In the last 30 games who is leading the Sox in RBI ? In the unlikely event you guessed Yolmer Sanchez you would be right. Yolmer went 3/4 driving in a run in the Sox 7-1 victory against the Tigers today. His last 7 games he has 3 HR and 9 RBI and also has raised his OPS on the season to over .700 . Jose Abreu has been the rock of the lineup hitting HR's and fielding much better the 2nd half of the season. I know it sucks for draft pick position but when the young guys contribute to victories I can't be unhappy about it. I've spent my whole life cheering for Sox wins and it's just counter-intuitive to do otherwise. Besides I know I am not alone here in wanting these youngsters to experience the thrills of victories and growing together. I'm with ya! Almost TOO many interesting guys. It's a weird kind of depth we have right now. Not star depth, not even good depth, but not bad depth either. It's just solid to maybe good depth and it competes in an exciting way. Not sure what the hell I'm talking about. Go Sox

2018 MLB Draft
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 06:27 PM) I'm with you. With how talented this class is shaping up to be, I can't see a super one dimensional player like Beer being taken where the Sox will be picking. This is a good thing. Yes. At this point the only reason you take Beer is if you think he's a generational bat. A lot can happen next season for his stock to adjust.

Hansen to AA
Love this. Let him get a taste of what he'll be up against next year. Super smart

8/18 at Rangers
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 10:11 PM) Let's hope Delmonico lasts longer than Trayce as a legit everyday player...both got off to amazing starts compared to their career minor league profiles. Delmonico is a great baseball name though. Nuff said

8-17 Games
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 09:19 PM) As great as Acuna is, I'll take Jimenez raw power potential (which is basically unlimited) before Acuna's speed/defensive versatility. I'm also a little more wary of Acuna's swing and miss, whereas Jimenez contact ability is off the charts for a guy with his frame. But yea, they are 1-2 in my mind. The only player that rivals them in raw talent is Kopech. And we got 2 of those 3. Mwuahhahahahaha. Mwuahahahahaaha. And Hansen soon to be 2nd best pitching prospect in minors before too long. Mwuahahahahahahahah!

8/16 Sox @ Dodgers
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 01:06 AM) Probably not. Even on a rebuilding team Petricka sucks really, really bad. I dunno, he throws 95. This is a perfect time to run out the suckterds and see if any of them can get Coop'd for good.

8-16 Games
So how do you find out all the other pitchers torching the minors? I find it hard to believe that Hansen isn't in the top 10 of minor league pitchers.

Zack Collins/Eloy Jimenez promoted
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) Kopech is the best pitching prospect in baseball, if he's dominant next April & May in AAA, the Sox will have no choice but calling him. And I don't think it's that crazy of an outcome. It's not. Basically 50/50 that happens. I want to say no way before Super 2, but if he's THAT dominant, to hell with that as well.

8/14 Games
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 09:39 PM) Man that would be awesome. I was 15 or so for that 2000 team and to me, the way Foulke threw was the coolest thing I ever seen. Probably the reason my arm still hurts sometimes, f***in asshole

8/14 Games
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) That is true Yea Danish seems more like the guy who the Sox make a pitching coach in Great Falls or something. I was really excited for him when we drafted him but maybe it's just not meant to be. Foulke 2.0

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 03:06 PM) Not that I support Trump's initial statements, but I don't get this response at all. This comes off as - "Once one radical group takes part in some isolated, tragic event we must wait for another loosely, comparable radical group to commit a comparable, outlier offense to look at things in a nuanced way." Why don't we just look at individual events for what they are instead of wedging the partisan BS into everything? Ding ding ding. Course then there wouldn't be news or anything to fight. What would all the people do, go about their days?

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
QUOTE (JPR @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) Absolutely amazing the best gM in da game turned this piece of Bronx trash into anything! That's why Hahn is da best. Somebody give Coop a pay raise. He should be in the hall of fame when it is all said and done. Hell yea! I hope he gets a huge statue out front when he retires. "The house that Coop built."

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 10:02 PM) Probably just a salary dump. If the Astros wanted him they could have just asked the Yankees politely. True but that was before he got Coop'd

when can Sox contend?
Does the money rollover like cellphone minutes. Say the team can handle $130M payroll but the 2018 payroll is $30M. Does that mean $100M is saved & invested so approx $105M is available the following year?
