  1. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:01 PM) The last time the Sox played Philly or the Mets, it was in Chicago, though. Then again, the last time we played Washington was at their place (well..Montreal) so who knows? Well no, we played the Phils in Philly back in 07'
  2. Sat in the bleachers ROW 4 once, sat in Row 7 in RF that was actually Row 1. either not too shabby
  3. Getz plays a little third, so if we did move Bacon to 2B/SS and needed someone at the hot corner, Getz can play there
  4. have been there twice, be carefull. Indians fans are assholes and prics and still think its 1997 and still have the best team in MLB and have sold out every game
  5. I expect him to move to 2B and have Bacon at SS in 2010
  6. another thing is we need speed, and guys who can bunt, run movers over ect. We all know we need 3-6 to be power hitters when you play 81 games at USCF. Do we have guys in the minors who can do this? If we could get a legit leadoff hitter for 2010 (as I doubt Scott Pods will hold up, or even make the 2010 roster). I would really like to see Kenny get Figgins, you can put him at third if Viciedo is not ready (he's batting .280ish with 5 HR in AA) or CF is Dayan is ready: So, with the addition of Figgins, we would still need a LF or RF pending on where TCQ goes based on how hit foot heals, I'm going to put him at RF for now just for the heck of it. In an earler post, I suggest Xavier Nady cheap, so lets say we get these two guys LINE UP A: Viciedo and Figgins CF Figgins SS Ramirez RF Quentin DH Dye 1B Konerko 2B Beckham C Pierzynksi LF Nady 3B Viciedo LINE UP B: Just Figgz 3B Figgins SS Ramirez RF Quentin DH Dye 1B Konerko 2B Beckham C Pierzynksi LF Nady CF Anderson/Danks/Shelby or LINE UP C: Realistic 1B Paul Konerko 2B Gordon Beckham 3B Dayan Viciedo SS Alexei Ramirez LF Anderson/Shelby/Danks CF Anderson/Shelby/Danks RF Quentin C Pierzynksi DH Dye I like A a lot more, you got speed at the top, power at 3-4-5, good hitting at 6 (if Beckham lives up to hype) 7 and 8. Plus at 9 Dayan can hit at the bottom with less pressure, but we all know C is probably what is going to happen. I didn't even bother putting that into a line-up I think it would form, I would think 7-9 would be too weak if you had 2 or 3 rookie batting their (pending on if Anderson started)
  7. someone mentioned a corner outfielder via free agency in the off season, If we can't get Holiday, I would suggest Xavier Nady but only if he's inspected and approved to be a %100 recovery from his surgery. I think he'll come cheaper than Holiday, he's only going to be 30 in 2010 and in the past two seasons (not including 2009) he's was batting .293 split between Pittsburgh and New York. Plus he can play all three outfield positions well. I think if we can ink him for a 1 year contract, that could suffice.
  8. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 06:17 AM) I really doubt Anderson will be our everyday CF next year. If anything he will continue to be our 4th OF. I truly believe Jordan Danks patrols CF next season (have to remember we are slowly getting younger and younger). Quentin could definitley move to RF and platoon DH with Dye next season, but he could also stay in LF and the Sox could aqcuire an established OF like Crawford to patrol RF. Does Jordan Danks have the experience? Well I guess with modern times, players only spend 2-3 years in the minors, so we drafted him in what 2007? The more I think about it scratching my beard, the more I think he will be ready and be our CF. Rumor has it the guy is fast and him or Shelby can be our lead-off hitter in the future as well
  9. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 11:21 AM) I don't see Lilli, Wise or Fields as part of next year's picture at all. They'll all be gone - replaced by youngsters, or through trades between now and April '10. ya, the bench I really wasn't sure how that could possibly mold. I agree with you though
  10. You have to look at our needs by position for 2010 1B - Paul Konerko 2B - Alexei Ramirez 3B - Dayan Viciedo SS - Gordon Beckham LF - CF - Brian Anderson RF - Carlos Quentin C - AJ Pierzynksi DH - Jermaine Dye Looking at the starting 9, it would appear that left field is our only problem we need plugged for 2010 and if Viciedo isn't MLB ready next season or Fields is given another chance and fails then I would guess that Bacon can play there, or Kenny can go with his guy Figgins via free agency if the Angels don't resign him or he does not go to another team. So who's available for Left in 2010? Who's available that can lead-off in 2010? and those two questions are what KW needs to address IMO for the line up For the 2010 rotation the only one I see set in stone for now is Buerhle, Floyd and Danks. Richard has put together some good starts but he needs to prove consistency, and if he does slot him in, but that still leaves us with one potential spot, who goes their? Some Peavy, Oswalt, Webb ace type pitcher, some kid from the minors or some overpaid, over the hill, one year free agent signing? After 2010, Dotel is allowed to walk vai free agency, but I would not have a problem with another 1 or 2 year deal, we still have Linebrink, Jenks (with arbitration), Thornton, DJ Carsco. Whether or not we lose Dotel, I would like to see KW sign JJ Putz to a one or two year deal, Putz isn't the greatest by any means, but he's a reliable arm we can use as set up. So I would like to see the pen as Jenks, Putz, Linebrink, Dotel, Thornton and Carasco. Thats 6 arms in the pen we can rely on without having to worry about Gobel, or another Mike MacDougle. The bench will probably have Getz, Fields, Castro, Lillibridge, Wise (Ozzie loves his guys). No doubt not the best, but I guess it all can't all be flawless So the checklist for 2010 is Lead off Hitter, Left fielder, front line starting pitcher (or at least one that's reliable), bullpen arm, bench depth. Can he fill the holes for 2010 and improve 2009? Hard to say, If he gets another reliable starter that will defiantly help the 2009 Sox.
  11. its not a rumor, just something I speculated The Mets are in dire need of a catcher, why not ship AJ to New York? I have no idea what we would/could get in return. The only negative is AJ is still a good hitter, something we need desperately on this team. Of course, you only do this trade, if we really are gonna give up on 2009 IMO
  12. the thing about Richard is though, he's only had 3 good starts. How do we know that he his next 5 starts he goes 40 IP 27 ER, ect
  13. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 26, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) i'm pissed we passed on Gwynn... I'm pissed we passed on Gerut
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2009 -> 08:46 AM) If TCQ goes DL, the smart call-up is Josh Kroeger, who has put up an .868 OPS in May at Charlotte. Unfortunately, we won't get the smart call-up, we'll get the Wise one. good one
  15. I'm going to go to see the Knights in Toledo Monday now, nothing is stopping me.
  16. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 20, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) Bigger fluke season: 2008 Gavin Floyd or 2007 Fausto Carmona? Gavin is not a fluke
  17. no he's a fly ball pitcher at Petco, could you imagine at the Cell? Those warning track flies in San Diego are like 4th row homers at the Cell, pass, bring on Harren, Webb, Cane, ect QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ May 22, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) Jake Peavy had dead arm problems last year & the year before. Usually that's a sign for something bad to come. He's great against the weak-hitting national league, he got crushed in interleague & WBC competition. Wow, I didn't realize that was going on. Thank god we didn't pick him up, we don't need him launching home runs at the Cell, then his arm dying two years into the contract.
  18. anyone know when we will find out exactly?
  19. A sweep of the Twinks tomorrow would be splendid!
  20. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 19, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) Linebrink is on record saying that he doesn't know if his shoulder will ever be 100% again and is owed $10.5 million over the next two years. Dotel will be 36 next season. The production of those two has nowhere to go but down, and Kenny would be crazy to go out of his way to keep either of them around next year. (Unfortunately, Linebrink's contract and NTC will make him difficult to deal this year.) Since Kenny wasn't serious about this season, I doubt that he's going to make a 2008-like push next season. It's more likely that he deals Dye and Dotel at the break and lets guys like Beckham and Poreda develop in the bigs in 2010. And as much as I hate to watch bad baseball, it's the right thing to do. This current lineup isn't going to win in October and the Sox are going to have to suffer through another 1999-esque "The Kids Can Play" season or two while the current crop in AA sinks or swims in the majors. ahhhh, I must of missed that
  21. Mets lost Delgado until at least the All-Star break, they can either put Murphy at first which will open a spot in the OF (Dye) or we can give them Konerko to play first, but truth be told, I don't like the latter, I would rather hold on to Konerko and we can't give them Thome because Thome can't take the field anymore and I think they would be more interested in Dye because when Delgado does come back, their going to have two veteran slugging first basemen. Speaking of the Mets, Omar Minaya LOVES Latino's, we could always trade them Dotel (but I'd rather not) to go into their pen with K-Rod, Putz, and Green, I don't know whom he could get in return, though. I would also suggest Dye to Seattle for Endy Chavez. Chavez can lead-off which would allow us to put Getz in the 2-hole
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 19, 2009 -> 01:45 AM) Unless you want to trade Matt Thornton, then basically you're advocating keeping the same four key bullpen members. This would make sense if we were a contending team, close to a contending team, or even just one move away (position player/pitcher). But it would be a waste of $20 million (roughly the salaries of all four together) to keep them together on a rebuilding team...it just doesn't make sense. Basically, about 20-35% of the 2010 budget/payroll would be allocated to four members of the bullpen. That won't work, any more than having five starting pitchers making $50+ million was sustainable (in 2006), either. You have to get some of the production from the minors if you want to have a contending team on a $60-80 million team budget. I don't see that being to big of an issue, rebuilding team or not. You can still use Poreda or Nunez from the minors in the pen, the bullpen is the most important part of a team IMO
  23. well whatever happens, DONT trade Linebrink or Dotel, if we really are serious about 2010, we are going to need a good core in a bullpen to go with Jenks, I know Dotel is a FA after this season, but I say sign him to another 2 seasons
