You know... if we did get Carl Crawford for Carlos, and still ended up landing Adrian Gonzalez (pipe dream, I know)... I'd be perfectly fine with Andruw Jones as an everyday right fielder.
-
Hmmm.... VERY interesting...I think I'd take it.
-
I wouldn't be surprised one bit if KW landed Halladay. I remember how shocked I was when he traded Freddy Garcia AND Brandon McCarthy in 2006. I wouldn't be shocked at all if he traded some prospects (forget about starting pitching) to the Jays for Halladay, then turned around and used Danks or Floyd plus more prospects to land Adrian Gonzalez. That's how Kenny rolls. I know it sounds like a fantasy, but wouldn't it be cool? This place would be up for grabs...

Good God... why why WHY couldn't somebody teach BA how to swing a freaking bat?? If we could get a consistent .280 out of the guy, we would have been GOLDEN!

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) I can be ok with this, actually. I guess I would be okay if we signed Matsui AND someone to play LF (Crisp, Pods)...
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) Do people think CQ would be a disaster in RF because of the foot or do they think he simply can't play the position? I would be afraid he would get hurt running after a ball. Plus he isn't that fast, is he?
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) So it's speculation that they'd be interested in Matsui and an assumption that he'd play left because Ozzie has been talking about moving Quentin to right. His 'as of today' outfield did have Jones in left and Quentin in right. Sounds like a whole lot of nothing. You cannot have an outfield with Matsui/Rios/Quentin. Rios is a good defender, but he's not that good... Hell, I don't think there's a center fielder alive that can cover that much ground.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) Did you add the Quentin move part, or did they say that on the Score? Because I assume they'd want Matsui for DH, not OF. That's what they said on the Score update on the Winter Meetings. I didn't add it.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) Matsui isn't even capable of playing the outfield. That's what I was thinking. Aren't we trying to upgrade the outfield defense?
-
For what it's worth.... the Score just mentioned that the Sox might be pursuing Matsui, and that would Quentin to move over to RF...
-
SCOTT PODSEDNIK.... COME ONNNNN DOWN... That's so sad... I kinda hope that the Royals do swoop in and scoop him up. Maybe then Kenny would be forced to do something drastic. But then who would we get? My head hurts...

What about a Juan Pierre for Linebrink swap?

Who else is out there though? -
If Jones starts, then who bats leadoff?? I think it's going to be Pods and Thome again, boys and girls. Then we'll be good for about 88 wins...

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) and that cheap DH is Carlos Delgado....dont hate Who are we kidding? That cheap DH is going to end up being Thome... Ho hum... -
The Braves are on FIRE!! Braves Interested In Marlon Byrd By Tim Dierkes [December 4 at 2:09pm CST] The Braves have "strong interest" in free agent outfielder Marlon Byrd, in the words of his agent Seth Levinson (MLB.com's Mark Bowman reporting). Bowman, however, believes Byrd is "just one of many candidates that the Braves are evaluating." A Mark DeRosa reunion is possible, with DeRosa apparently willing to take a hometown discount. Back on November 23rd, Dave O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution named Josh Willingham, Mike Cameron, Jermaine Dye, and perhaps Xavier Nady as other right-handed hitters on the Braves' radar.

Uggla expects to be traded during offseason

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) He's a poor defender, a fluctuation in UZR isn't going to convince me otherwise all you have to do is watch him, he's just not comfortable in the field. You can acquire him for his bat but that glove is still coming right along with him and it will be costing you runs especially in the double plays he fails to turn. Remember that all star game a few years back where he made 2 or 3 errors in a row? No thanks. -
Does anybody know anything about Pagan's defense? How is his glove?
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) He's a backup. He wouldn't have played nearly as much as he did how Beltran not gotten hurt. Yeah but he's a backup to a 100 million dollar ball player, right? I've looked at his numbers... he didn't do that bad as a back up. Maybe he just needs a starting job to prove how good he can be. He could have a break out season on the southside.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) I think we're going to like Teahen. He's (from all i hear) a really down to earth guy, very charitable, who likes to set up roots in the community. He's kind of a non-spazzy Nick Swisher. I really don't give a rats a** how good he is in the community. I want him to be good on the baseball field. WINNING ANOTHER WORLD SERIES would be excellent for the community! As long as he isn't like curt schilling or david wells - a jagbag of epic proportions - I don't care.
-
Okay I'm game. So what would it take to get him?

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) One has to wonder what will happen if Jones returns to form (or even close to what he used to be). I doubt they are counting on it, but if another OFer isn't signed or acquired, and we go into spring training with Rios, Quentin, and a AAA guy (Danks), that leaves quite the door open for Jones. Regardless, having that type of player available off the bench will make a good team better. Good point, but then who bats leadoff? Beckham? I'd rather not put that much pressure on the kid just yet. Go Steelmen...

If we trade Thornton to the Rays then Carl Crawford better be playing full time on the southside next year

The waiting is killing me - just like last year and the year before and the year before etc..... I hate winter and I'm sick of hearing about the Bears. I really hope that KW makes a splash, but I don't think he will. Well if he does, at least I'll be suprised. I'm thinking that the most we get is a Marlon Byrd type player... -
Sox will not offer arbitration to Dotel, Dye, Pods or Castro
chetkincaid replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Wow... I just read somewhere that Roy Halladay is pretty much on his way to the either the yanks or the red sawks. They'll sign him to a 5 year 100 and something million dollar deal like it's nothing - and we're struggling over paying Dotel SIX million. I can't even imagine what it's like to be a Pirates fan. Is it time for a salary cap in baseball? What do you guys think? Sorry to hijack the thread... this probably should have been posted somewhere else... -
This is fine... but can he rake? Will he mash??
