Just trying to spark some baseball conversation... I'm sick of hearing about football and the Super Bowl (BTW - give me a World Series Game 7 over the Super Bowl anyday). What do you guys think? Are we really in trouble because of Orlando Hudson and the twinks? I'm still holding out hope for Damon or someone else to help us score some runs...

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) I agree, I think Liriano will be a lot better this year. Unfortunately, the Twins have to be the favorites at this point. I hate the Twins. MAN I hope KW makes a counter move... I hate the twins too and I won't be able to stand it if they beat us again.
-
As much as it pains me to say this, I bet Adrian Gonzalez does end up with the red sox. We'll just have to hope that Viciedo or Flowers turns out to be a big bat like that in a year of 2 when they make it up here...
-
Looks like the twins about to lock up Orlando Hudson. Should we be worried?

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) Did he lose 30 lbs? If Alexei Ramirez loses 30lbs we won't be able to see him. He would vanish! QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) and Greg Walker has been... oh wait, that won't work. All Walker needs to do is see Alexei swing the bat 5 times, right?
-
I hope you're right Cubano. I like Alexei. I'd like to see him really solidify the Sox at SS. An all star appearance would be cool too

I always thought that SABOTAGE by the Beastie Boys would be a cool song to walk out out to...

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Cub fans have always played up the "loveable losers" crap. So they get more attention. I used to work with a bunch of Cub fans and whenever we would argue about our teams, I would bring up 2005. The first thing out of their mouths was "Who cares about 2005 - people don't even remember who won the World Series that year!" They are always trying to downplay what happened in 2005. It really pissed me off when certain people in sports claimed that the most significant thing to happen in baseball in Chicago in the last decade wasn't the 2005 title, but BARTMAN?!?!
-
This is just a reminder to us all that people still think of Chicago as a Cubs town. We're like second class citizens. That's alright though. I bet we win another World Series before they do.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) Damon's people will flat out reject that, from what we can tell. Yeah looks like the Rays are swooping in at 7mil for him. Rays Interested In Johnny Damon By Mark Polishuk [January 27 at 3:41pm CST] The Rays have interest in Johnny Damon as a DH candidate, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Sherman says the Rays are considering Damon even if they can't unload Pat Burrell. Sherman's sources believe Damon would be willing to play for $7MM, partially deferred. Too bad...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) Damon is somewhere between bad and very bad in the field. He still has the ability to play it, but you only really want him playing out there if your other option is something like Adam Dunn or Jermaine Dye or Vlad Guerrero, where they're either terrible or likely to get hurt if they play the field. I think at this point, if anyone offered Damn $8 million a year, he'd be happy to DH full time. But no one's come anywhere close to his asking price. His camp started floating retirement rumors earlier this week. 8 million? Screw that - offer him 4 plus incentives. Get it done KW!!
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 09:59 AM) 4:45pm: Jeff Fletcher at AOL FanHouse says that Damon is unlikely to end up in Oakland. GM Billy Beane says a utility infielder is the priority now. mlbtraderumors I wish the Sox would just go ahead and announce the Johnny Damon signing so I can quit refreshing so much

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 09:50 AM) Great post. And they're serious about Mauer too. I think they'll keep him. These are the new Twins, and they plan on kicking our asses through the next decade. Hopefully Kenny and Ozzie wake up. I ain't scared. Do you think that KW will just stand by and allow the twins to run all over the Sox? Nope... Old twins new twins who cares... In Kenny I trust...

QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) A 1-2 punch of Pierre/Damon will mean an RBI feast for the #3-4-5 hitters in the Sox lineup!! But what would that mean for Beckham? Where would he bat? Would he try swing for the fences much more often than he would hitting in the 2 hole?
-
I don't know if it's been mentioned here on soxtalk.com (it probably has) but what about Johnny Damon? He is a lefty, can still play in the field on a part time basis, can still hit, and his price has seemingly dropped like a rock. There's your versatility, Ozzie. At the beginning of the offseason, I was thinking no way. But now that the pickins' are slim.... it might not be a bad idea.

Do we have to pay all of his salary??

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) What about Alexei's flip and Uribe's World Series dive? http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200...12&c_id=cws http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/media/play...b_tp350&v=2 I hate that Jeter gets so much credit for a similar catch, and hardly anyone other than White Sox fans talk about Uribe's catch.
-
Iguchi's diving play or D Wizzle's perfect game saving catch or Derek Jeter's backhand flip to Posada to nail Giambi in the 2001 ALDS Which one is the coolest?

Who do you have the highest expectations for?

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) This needs to stop asap. Oops. Teahen? -

Rios - I hope his contract actually becomes a bargain. Mark "Bruiser" Teahen - I hope the change of scenery does him well. -
Jenks received multiyear offer from Sox

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) I could not agree more, this is all part of his plan. I too agree wholeheartedly. I'm telling you KW is going to come up with something that'll make us all say WTF??? -
Why Carlton Fisk is still my favorite Sox player, ever

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 10:52 PM) You have a very warped sense of right and wrong. Why... Because you don't agree with me? No. IMO, I'm dead on. -
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) Gary Matthews Jr to the Mets Wow... I wonder how that will work out. I guess the Angels will pick up most of the salary remaining. I wonder how long it'll be before Minaya is shown the door?
-
I still believe that Kenny Williams has something up his sleeve. Either they've seen Andruw Jones hit and they feel like he's finally figured it out, or KW is going to make a move that will have us all going WTF???

QUOTE (AJ Hellraiser @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) Adam Dunn is really the missing piece to the puzzle.. he's literally the PERFECT fit... power, lefty bat who draws a lot of walks... could hit 50+ homers in The Cell... could play a little first or LF and DH... He's also in the final year of the short contract with the Nationals and I assume could be had if the package is right... what does everyone think it would take to land him? Morel and Retherford? Retherford and a pitcher? I'd like him but does he strike out too much?
