Why Carlton Fisk is still my favorite Sox player, ever
chetkincaid replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) Is it any worse than calling a hall-of-famer a "lil girl", in the name of defending Deion friggin Sanders? Yeah... a hall of famer kicking and screaming like a lil girl because someone won't run as fast as they can on a routine pop up. That's worse. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) Nothing. You have to read both the post and the quoted material to understand the context in which it was written. The comment was in response to a situation. That Fisk should have stayed out of another team's player's business. Fisk has said he was defending the integrity of the game or something like that. You can think he's an asshole, that's your opinion. I was defending Fisk's decision to one up Neon Deon for whatever reason. Interestingly, the original poster would have had no problem if punches were thrown, but yelling was out of line. No... I had a problem with fisk trying to "one up" Deion. How is yelling and screaming like a lil girl at an opposing teams player just because he doesn't run to first as fast as he would have defending the integrity of the game? Deion should have defended his integrity and punched fisk in his grill. -

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Deion was disgracing the game and the Yankee pinstripes. I hate the damn Yankees as much as anybody, but they do have a tradition of great baseball. I wish Fisk would have stomped him into a greasy spot. I too hate the yanks, but fisk needed to mind his own team's business. How would you like if someone from the yanks said something about the way Beckham plays the game? If I were the yankees pitchers in that game, fisk would have gotten drilled until the benches cleared, then got his face caved in. Keep your nose out of other team's business. Yeah, he's a red sox. -
Andruw Jones in the Best Shape in a Decade?
chetkincaid replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would not be surprised one bit if Andruw Jones was in the running for the comeback player of the year award. Think about it.... what if the guy can just somehow hit about .275 (wishful thinking I know) and 35 HRs and shows flashes of his former defensive prowess? I wonder if CQ will be pissed if he has to become the full time DH... -

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 10:10 AM) His quote to Neon Deion ("If you don't play it [the game] right, I'm going to kick your ass right here.") could be applied to McGwire and other roiders. For that alone, ya gotta love the guy. Which is exactly why I wish Deion Sanders would have punched him right in the throat and knocked him on his arse. Did fisk invent the game? How can he tell someone on an opposing team that he's not playing the game "right"? what a pompous a-hole. Yeah... he forever belongs in a red sox uniform. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) I'm glad Fisk spoke out on this. He was a stud. As far as being a jerk, Chet, are you basing this on this article or insider knowledge? I never heard Fisk was a total dick. No this is just my opinion. It's just how I FEEL that he's a tool... Like the Deion Sanders incident - I'm no Deion Sanders fan, but I wish he would have punched Fisk right in his grill and told him to mind his own damn business and worry about his own teamates. -
I wonder just how much that perfect game and the game afterwards really took out of him. He probably should have been shut down when it was obvious that the Sox weren't going anywhere.

Carlton Fisk has to be my LEAST favorite Sox of all time. To me, he comes across as a pompous, arrogant jerk. He's a good representative of the sox all right.... the RED SOX, which is the team that I'll always identify him with. Oh yeah, I went to high school with his son too, and he's a tool just like his old man... -
QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jan 10, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) From reading what most Sox fans have been saying all winter I would guess that they wanted either Thome or Vlad to be the pinch runner. I vote for Paulie. This line up needs an infusion of slow...

I'm glad Pods is in the AL Central. We can put his numbers up against Pierre's numbers to see of KW made the right move or not. I got a feeling that Pierre will be much better.

QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 06:23 AM) A great rotation ? That is a bit much i mean what have they accomplished to be consider a Great rotation ? I notice a lot of people here putting all the hopes of this team into the 4 or 5 starting pitchers . Well i hope you are all right because if these 4 or 5 guys don't pitch great we will be seeing another sub 500 year . for me trading one of them of Danks or Floyd in a package to get AGON i would do in a heart beat especially Danks 1 13 win season is not greatness . I agree. People are putting a LOT of faith in the starting rotation, but we still have to score runs. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) Why would be break up the strong 1-4 without a proper replacement? To sign a young, much sought after all star gold glove lefty that could hit 40+ bombs and would be under the Sox control for the next couple of years... That's why I would probably do it. Okay maybe I wouldn't give up Huddy though. But the Danks brothers and maybe Retherford or someone like that? Yeah I'd do it. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) ^^^^^^^ If he'd take 4 mil, I'd put him in RF tomorrow and DH Q. Why? What's so special about Rick Ankiel?

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 11:02 AM) wow. I know... I'm bored -
How about Kenny signs Arnoldis Chapman for 5yrs/25mil, then sends both the Danks brothers and (if necessary), Flowers or Hudson to the Padres for Adrian Gonzalez? Thoughts???

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) He spit in an umpire's face. I don't agree with it, but his appearance to the media is the reason. Heard on the radio that spitting in an umps face is in fact the very reason that he didn't make it on the first ballot. Eh... I don't know if he actually did it on purpose though. Oh well... he'll get in next year won't he? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 09:49 AM) St. Louis would be crazy to let it get to that point. Either they need to trade him first or they need to sign him before it gets to that point. I'm not saying that there's a GOOD chance that it happens - I'm saying that there is a chance that it happens and I'm starting to think that, by rules, there should be NO CHANCE that the yanks be able to pull that off.
-
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 09:47 AM) I doubt Pujols will become a free agent next year. What if the yanks throw ARod money at him and St. Louis can't match it?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 09:34 AM) You do realize the Sox are probably amongst the teams that benefit from not having a salary cap, right? Yeah but is it enough? Now there's an ESPN article out there that is speculating that the yanks might be able to pay enough to convince ALBERT PUJOLS to outbid the cards when his contract is up. What the hell? When does it stop? I'd just as soon level the playing field for everyone.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 09:12 AM) I'm definitely on the Jack Cust for DH train. Yeah his average is going to be low but he'll walk 100 times (or thereabouts) with great power. I think he'd be a near perfect fit for us. Cust struck out 197 times in 08 and 185 times in 09. Strike outs are rally killers. No thank you.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 08:14 AM) That's way more money than this team has available to spend on a player like Beltre. For this year at least, that's probably more than he's worth to us as well. I'm really starting to think that baseball needs a salary cap...
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 11:03 PM) I wish we could have gotten Beltre to agree to a one year deal like this. This team would have been complete. I wonder if KW even tried? Knowing him though I bet he did.
