What low-key Sox prospect are you most excited to get a chance
royoung replied to bmags's topic in FutureSox Board
I also should mention I firmly believe Jake Peter and Brian Clark will be effective big leaguers, though their ceilings are probably utility guy and 7th inning reliever, respectively. -

Good post. I know you guys like Eddy, but Adam Engel is a no-brainer for me here. He is a freak athlete and has extremely loud tools who has shown he is capable of putting it all together in short bursts (2015 AFL MVP). The White Sox played with his pre-swing mechanics last season and it kind of set his production back, but he has an extremely high ceiling if it clicks for him. My interview with video is below if you want to check it out. http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2016/...iew-and-videos/ -
FS: In-person, detailed scouting notes from the fall leagues

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 08:28 AM) Yeah, I don't necessarily agree with all his points. And yes, Kopech's issues are seemingly fixable. Chris isn't saying they can't be, just that he needs substantial work to get there. And as you said, he's seen him in person five times, which is five more than I have. I should also point out Chris's opinion of "4th starter" is vastly different from what I and many others would consider. He believes that true #1's are "generational arms" and #2 are elites, and "mid-rotation" guys are basically what most would consider #1 or #2 starters. -
Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) Are you at least going to claim to have "sources" to support this info? How can you possibly claim to know that the deal was a player short if you have no idea what any other team offered, or what the Sox asked for from Boston? The Sale deal was only light a prospect like Devers to fans on a message board who were unrealistic to begin with. The hyping of our assets is getting out of hand. I haven't seen a single publication call our return for Sale anything short of fair, with some saying it was a slight overpay on Boston's part. The reality of the situation now with Quintana is that there only a handful of organizations that can afford to pay what we are asking for and if they simply decide not to, we aren't getting it. If that is the case, Hahn has a choice to compromise, or keep him. Hahn has done a good job assessing the whole market, dropping some leaks on rich farm systems (HOU/NYY/PIT), and hopefully he can get something done. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 10:04 AM) Yup, pretty nuts IMO. I'm a huge fan of both Stephens & Call. Also, no way in hell Michalczewski doesn't make the top 20. His prospect status has definitely soured, but he's still a more interesting prospect than several guys on his list. Good call, I forgot about Michalczewski. He had a disappointing year, but still young enough with tools to put it together.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 06:30 PM) His list has been published FYI. He has Michael Ynoa at #13 and Dylan Covey at #14 over guys like Jordan Stephens and Alex Call...wow.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 01:33 PM) I am not as familiar with Sickels but judging by him keeping Glasnow as the Pirates #1 despite his showing I think you are right 3 Bs - Basabe, Adams, Hansen? Probably Burdi instead of Basabe. But the bottom half of the top 10 gets pretty interesting so who knows.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 01:28 PM) I highly doubt Pittsburgh would be willing to offer a Glasnow, bell, Newman and Keller package for Quintana. No team can clear out that much future talent for one player, even Quintana Exactly. I would be happy with three of those players in a deal for Q. I was just illustrating that they could easily pull off a Quintana trade without Meadows. -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 01:24 PM) Well yea...I suppose the Pirates could gut their entire farm system and pick up Quintana but realistically speaking a 3 or 4 player return modeled after the Boston return that didnt include Meadows would be a no-brainer for the Pirates. I don't think a team like the Pirates can really afford to "gut their entire farm system" like a Boston or Washington could. I would guess they would try to restock it partially with a Cutch deal, but nobody seems willing to pay that price either. So we wait. -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) Right. If the Pirates could acquire Quintana without Meadows he'd already be on the Pirates. Its nice that somebody in the media seems to be reporting it but it isn't difficult to surmise what the Sox are asking from Pittsburgh. I think the Pirates could acquire Q without Meadows quite easily (Sox aren't turning down Glasnow/Bell/Newman/Keller) but its a game of chicken figuring out how those remaining pieces fit. I think the Pirates are trying to unload McCutchen first and that pursuit is holding up their offer. -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 04:26 PM) That Rodon trade is horrible. Plus, Rodon is going nowhere . I think the Pittsburgh deal is worse...Jones and Abreu to Pittsburgh and we don't one of their top 3 prospects? -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) Albies, Maitian, Soroka, and Touissant? I like it. The longer Pittsburgh/Houston/NYY screws around, the more I think a dark horse like ATL makes sense. -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) Right that's why the Sox have the Pirates on the phone. I wouldn't be shocked if the Braves are silently lurking as well, waiting for Hahn's demands to slip a little bit. I agree with the Atlanta bit here. When I talked to Chris Cotillo, he mentioned that Atlanta was firmly in the Sale sweepstakes, but believed they are a better fit for Q. Ozzie Albies/Kevin Maitan headlined package with an upside arm or two intrigue anyone? -

Talks between Dodgers and Twins have apparently all but broken down because Dodgers don't want to include much more than Deleon. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 03:26 PM) The Kahnle trade was pointless from the get-go (Sox had several Kahnles), with little to gain at the cost of an interesting low-level minor leaguer with upside. Shields trade was similarly nonsensical. Hahn should wish he had every trade from 2014-2015 back. I defended the Shields deal at the time because I thought he had something left in the tank (lol nope) and knew Johnson and a LatAm lottery ticket wasn't a steep price. Johnson is who we thought he was but Tatis Jr looks interesting which could be bad. But still, at the time, it was defensible considering the situation.

royoung replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It is obviously easier for me (FutureSox duh) to be excited about this rebuild than most. But I used to watch a ton of major league games in previous years, but I realized somewhere through the 2016 season I barely tuned in at all. It wasn't that they were just awful (they were), it was seeing studs like Sale, Q, Eaton, Abreu, etc flounder out there. If the White Sox could not build a competent supporting cast around these players, why have them? Our personal enjoyment? This is a prudent decision in a lot of ways and though it is a risky plan they are embarking on, it is exorbitantly less so than the failing status quo. -
I bet that Yency Almonte for Kahnle trade last off-season is one Hahn wishes he had back.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 04:24 PM) If they're not trading Meadows then they HAVE to move McCutchen right? Because otherwise there simply isn't anywhere for Meadows to play this year, and whatever they do with Mccutchen fundamentally changes the names we could put on the list. Honestly I think McCutchen's trade market is holding this whole deal up. -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) If we can't have Meadows, then I want both Keller and Newman as well as Glasnow. If they're content on keeping Bell, then I would want Hayes and another. I think that is likely what Hahn and Huntington are haggling about. I would be ecstatic if Sox acquired Bell, but he is major league ready and will really help their 2017 club. -

The fact that the Pirates have been trying to trade Cutch should tell you Meadows isn't going anywhere. They absolutely love him. The reason they are attractive trade partners is because they can put together a really strong package without him. Glasnow and Bell are top 20 prospects and they have Newman (#42) and Keller (#72) as well. I would absolutely love a deal with Glasnow/Bell as the centerpieces + maybe Keller or some other high upside guys. Sox are not likely getting three top 50 prospects, that would be more than what Sale got. -

Honestly I think Pirates make the most sense in a lot of ways. He would eat the NL alive, he fits within Pittsburgh payroll and makes them competitive during the length of his contract, and they some great stud prospects for the White Sox to target. -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) Our Luis Basabe correct? Not his twin brother Luis Basabe? haha "Our" Luis Alexander Basabe is the much better prospect than his brother. I heard Jim Callis tell a story that when the Diamondbacks traded Ziegler to the Red Sox last year, they accidentally asked for Alejandro when they actually wanted Alexander. Normally I'd say thats unbelievable, but this is Dave Stewart we are talking about... -

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 08:47 AM) This is a head scratcher for me. Why are the Yankees interested in Robertson? They are in a semi rebuild and were applauded by the entire industry with the influx of young talent they have brought to their organization. I find it hard to believe Cashman wants to get rid of his young talented hitters: Torres, Rutherford, and Frazier. The only conclusion I can come up with is Steinbrenner pressuring Cashman to make a big acquisition for 2017 season. Or Sox leaked this intentionally to Nightengale to scare Pittsburgh, Houston, Washington, whoever into dealing for Q. Its smart, they are simultaneously stimulating both the Q and Robertson markets by packaging them to the team with the best farm system.
