  1. http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2014/...-sox-prospects/ Recap posted. What a great night for our top hitting prospects! Davidson, Anderson, Hawkins, Ravelo, and Smith all had big games.
  2. Tyler Saladino started in LF but was pulled early...anyone know what happened?
  3. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 07:12 PM) CBS Sports Network for those of you wondering, 221 on DirecTV. Tyler Williams in lineup at DH, LOL! Winston-Salem's lineup is pretty loaded. Kannapolis, not so much.
  4. So we have homers from Carlos Sanchez, Tim Anderson, Kevan Smith, Omar Narvaez, Jared Mitchell, and Courtney Hawkins. Love it
  5. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 06:46 PM) Rondon leadoff single. My adopt a spec Nice inside out swing on that! Michalczewski swing at first pitch, flies out. Wish I could of seen his trademark plate discipline.
  6. Anderson now 2-2 Davidson 1-1
  7. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 06:37 PM) Got here late. Scoreboard is broke who is pitching? Tyler Barnette
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 06:28 PM) Fun to watch. Wish the minors were on tv every night. Announcers could not be paying less attention but that's okay. No kidding. It's funny we have these opinions and judgement about these kids and nearly all of us don't have the opportunity to see them other than short clips. It's why I am fascinated by ST every year when the prospects get in there.
  9. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 06:24 PM) Brett Austin with a walk. Not sure if it's his first game? Anyone? And he chugs around 3rd to score! Doesn't run too bad for a catcher
  10. Brett Austin's first professional AB... Draws a walk. Took a good hack on a pitch in the zone, fouled it off.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) I think that would end the era of the Rays as a smart organization. All that piece does is cement Jim Bowden's era as a terrible writer.
  12. I don't include DSL numbers in my recap, but worth noting Johan Cruz, who was signed for 450k on the July 2nd signing period in 2012, had a nice night. He's hitting .311/.382/.475 with three stolen bases. The Sox considered him the "best defensive SS in the Dominican" at the time of his signing, according to Baseball America.
  13. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20140619 Recently acquired Shawn Hill makes the start for Charlotte Birmingham- McCully Winston-Salem- Bucciferro Kannapolis- Barnette Great Falls- Stone
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) Rodon should be top 50 for sure. I am thinking more like 20-25 range at least. Anderson I bet comes in closer to 100, because a lot of people will dock him for the errors. True and his walk rate is frightening low. He has his warts for sure.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 10:27 AM) With Quintana's contract, there is a good chance that his replacement might not be cheaper in the long run. That is a valid point. But if he gives you 3-4 years of cost savings for similar/perhaps better value and that aligns with your contention window, you do it.
  16. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 10:22 AM) The Sox already have a depleted pitching staff, why would you trade the #2 pitcher on the staff? The Sox will need pitching over the next couple of years. Pitching for pitching. Walker projects to be an ace, is major league ready now. I think Walker could essential replace Q in the rotation with upside and is cheaper. But I am not the biggest Q fan on here, I know.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 09:35 AM) I agree, just saying that if he's available, you try and make it work. That is one pitcher I'd consider moving Quintana for. I'd probably do that deal actually. You take on a bit of risk, but Walker's upside is considerable.
  18. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 11:05 PM) Also, because I feel this is related, I may as well share it here in the Rodon thread. This is my response to people guessing where Rodon may get ranked on next year's top 100 boards..... here are the top 3 pitchers taken the last few years, and where they ranked on the following year's preseason top 100 (BA).... 2013 - Mark Appel (college, 39), Jon Gray (college, 12), Kohl Stewart (HS, 52) 2012 - Kevin Gausman (college, 26), Kyle Zimmer (college, 24), Max Fried (HS, 46) 2011 - Gerrit Cole (college, 12), Danny Hultzen (college, 21), Trevor Bauer (college, 10) 2010 - Jameson Taillon (HS, 11), Drew Pomeranz (college, 61), Matt Harvey (college, unranked) So I guess Rodon could rank anywhere from 10 to unranked..... wink.gif But I think top 50 is a guarantee. Somewhere in the 20's is probably the best bet. Quite early to speculate, but I think Rodon and Anderson are locks for the top 100, maybe top 50. Micah Johnson might sneak in the top 100, but a lot of scouts aren't crazy about him. Montas is a wildcard.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) I'd find out if Walker is available at all. If they're willing to even discuss him, even if you have to work to get him, you have to try and find a combination that will get that move made. I'd have a hard time believing we could pry Walker from Seattle for anyone on our roster not named Chris or Jose. I think if they are trading him, it's for Price.
  20. http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2014/...slays-ironpigs/ Recap posted. Micah Johnson headlines with a monster night.
  21. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 08:50 PM) I understand that. The Sox will not be giving Price an 8 year deal in excess of $160 million though. Not a chance. Bingo. We got an ace (two aces potential with Rodon) cheap so we can spend money elsewhere. If Avi was healthy and killing it I would think maybe but I still think this team is a year or two from really mixing it up for the World Series.
  22. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 12:58 AM) Speaking to his mechanics, I've seen people draw similarities to Peavy's type of recoil action and I don't think they're wrong. Obviously that was fine for Peavy for a while, but we all know it eventually resulted in Jake Peavy surgury on the detached lat. Not sure if 1 example is reason enough to concern, but it's probably worth mentioning. I thought the detached lat injury was a freak thing? I heard it never has happened in baseball before, so why would that a result of his mechanics?
  23. Hard to argue with Adams. Many were convinced he was going to the Dodgers at #22 or Braves at #32. I'm still in shock he fell to #44, wonderful arm to add to the organization.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 02:52 PM) Definitely, but to me the difference is last year he was so brutal it was the only thing they could do. This year, it wasn't like guys like Tekotte were heads and shoulders above him performance-wise. Maybe they just had to see him fail one more time to get it out of their system, but I think BUST is now official. He posted a .296/.417/.435 line in Kannapolis at age 20 and things looked bright. I wonder how his career would of played out if he didn't break his leg and miss 2010.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) There were a few guys they could have demoted or waived. I'm surprised they demoted Mitchell. Shocked really. I think this is the unofficial pulling of the plug. He was demoted to Birmingham last year as well. He actually spent much more time in Birmingham then he did in Charlotte in 2013. He's been circling the drain for awhile.
