  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 01:24 PM) Have you looked at Jake Peavy's numbers this year? Yep. He's continued to decline like you would expect a 33 pitcher would. Which is exactly why I'd be pissed if Boston gets more in a trade for him.
  2. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) Wait the Cardinals were willing to trade Wacha for Peavy?? As I recall, it was a Peavy/Ramirez package that warranted those guys being discussed.
  3. Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 5m The latest on a potential trade that could send Jake Peavy from the #RedSox to the #STLCards: http://sbnation.com/e/5645484 Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 3m As I reported last year, #STLCards discussed Wacha, Martinez, Wong in trade talks with #WhiteSox for Peavy: http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2013/7/28/4565...inez-wacha-wong … I'll be pissed if the Red Sox get a bigger haul for Peavy than the Sox did.
  4. "Conquered" would be a stretch, but he has put up .249/.322/.450 line at AAA with 32 homers in 195 games. His BABIP this season is at .246, which is 50 points lower than his career average. I believe he'll settle in around .250/.320/.450 and provide 20-25 homers, which is about league average.
  5. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) Oh how benevolent you are Dear Great One. On another note, isn't it funny that a thread related to Beckham "news" has him mentioned... About twice in two pages? Pass the hot sauce please. It's more exciting to talk about a pitcher that would bring back an actual haul rather than a second basemen who is hitting .244/.298/.389. If Beckham's average was his OBP and his OBP his slugging, then he might have some real value.
  6. http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2014/...ash-to-victory/ Recap posted. Trying out a new format, trying to make it cleaner and easier to read. Let me know what you guys think.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:59 AM) What can you trade for that puts your rebuilding in a better position without Quintana? Two top 10 prospects? I think I'd still prefer the 25-year old proven starting pitcher with the team friendly contract until 2020. I agree. He is more valuable to us than what it would take for anyone else to acquire him.
  8. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 09:00 PM) Hope the Sox keep their minds eyes open. I'd be willing to trade Quintana for, say, the package the Cubs were asking from Toronto for Samrardzija. If Samardjiza and impeding contract situation can get the Cubs a top 10 prospect in baseball at a premium position, I think Hahn has to at least be curious about what Q could fetch with his team friendly contract.
  9. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 07:16 PM) For some reason I got a SportsCenter alert on my phone about this, so it must be true. But Jose Quintana remains "unavailable." Good.
  10. http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2014/...-hits-20-games/ Recap posted. Have a great holiday weekends you guys!
  11. http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2014/...-like-its-2009/ Recap posted. There is a lot of exciting things going on! They didn't make the hot list, but Micker Adolfo hit his first professional home run and fellow international signee Luis Martinez did not allowed an earned run over five innings and struck out seven.
  12. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 09:59 PM) Henry Rodriguez walks the first two guys he faces, moves them to 2nd and 3rd with a wild pitch, gets a strikeout, walks the next guy to load the bases and gives up the game-losing single. I know it's a reclamation project and all that, but I'm sort of like what's the point, dude's always walked way too many and has taken it into overdrive this year - over 50 walks in a little over 30 innings. Sox trying to catch lightning in a bottle with good stuff. I like the strategy actually. It's AAA, who cares if they blow games.
  13. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 07:44 PM) Courtney Hawkins has been removed from the game....uh oh. PULL ALL OUR BEST PROSPECTS OFF THE FIELD! WE ARE CURSED
  14. For those asking about Jacob May's power... Winston-Salem Dash ‏@WSDashBaseball 6m Jacob May DESTROYS a leadoff homer to begin the contest just down the road from his college (Coastal Carolina). 1-0 Dash, mid 1.
  15. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20140702 Notable starters: Jaye for Birmingham Danish for Winston-Salem Lowry for Kannapolis
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 09:21 AM) Well, now he won't for sure. He had an outside chance of making it to Chicago this year if you read between the lines of what Hahn and the company line was. Wouldn't surprise me if he goes down to the deadline day and then does AZL then AFL. He should have another 30 innings or so in the tank.
  17. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 12:10 PM) Haven't followed. On a lunch break so I'll check out these guys later. Is this a good haul? Which one is the best? MLB.com ranked Nunez #26 and Alfaro #28. Never heard of the other two. Nunez is said to have a high offensive upside, may move to 3B. Alfaro is said to be a fairly advanced defensive catcher and his bat will need to catch up. So.....Nunez? He got them most money.
  18. K-town Intimidators ‏@Intimidators 2m ROSTER MOVE: Shortstop @CleuluisRondon has been promoted to High-A @WSDashBaseball. Rondon up to replace Anderson. He was only hitting .233/.295/.262 in Kannapolis...this could get ugly.
  19. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) Since we offered Nunez $900k, and Ynoa got $800k, is it safe to assume the Sox liked Nunez more???? I'll have to check with my sources and get back to you
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 09:40 AM) Like I said, I agree that it's good, but it's still low A. It's a very good thing. I just want to see more of it as he moves up, and it will be at that point when I will begin to more seriously consider him a possible starter down the line (not that I don't already). Everything Trey has done this year is good. It's *gasp* quality depth at the lower levels of our system!
  21. What about the catcher we were suppose to sign? Alfaro?
  22. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 10:16 PM) Have you seen him lately? He's fat right now, which is what I said. There's a lot more to relying speed than infield hits. He doesn't have much power which is reflected in his slugging percentage. His game doesn't match his body and most likely never will. His bust potential is extremely high and IMO, his ceiling is limited. Fat. No patience. Not enough power. What am I missing here? You mean lately as in the past few months since his injury? When he had surgery and has been physically unable to workout? That is ridiculous. As far as your other points, I can understand your concern on his plate discipline and power numbers. Fair enough. He had shown improvement this year over a small sample size, which is why it is so unfortunate he went down. Hopefully he comes back next year strong.
  23. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) Garcia is naturally a fat guy. He's fat right now. He's a groundball hitter. He relies on speed. He has a flat swing and doesn't get much lift. It's a recipe for a bust. That's why the Tigers gave him up for a no bat SS. You are contradicting yourself. He is fat or not? If he's fat now, how is he relying on his speed? Who considers Avisail Garcia particularly fast anyway? He hustles, but he doesn't beat out many infield hits. In the majors, only 5.7% of his hits were infield hits, which is around average. His BABIP is a little high, .349, but hey BABIP is going to be higher on players who hit a lot of ground balls. Players like Billy Hamilton and Dee Gordon can rely on their speed, there is absolutely nothing that supports Garcia is in any way relying on his speed for his hits. If you are trying to say you don't believe his body type will hold up well as he ages, I wholeheartedly agree with you. However, he is 23 and by all accounts from those who have actually seen him in person, he is fit and strong and many years from his physical decline.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 07:28 PM) Arrieta at it again...12 up, 12 down. He looks like Loaiza did that one season with a nasty cutter. Ugh, I knew that deal was going to strike gold for them. Damn it
  25. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 06:22 PM) Fat guys that rely on speed won't sustain that kind of average. Maybe he's Tony Gwynn though. lol wut
