QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 07:25 PM) Seth Lakso @SethLakso 1m #WhiteSox prospect Matt Davidson just hit his 8th HR in the month and 14th overall. He’s hitting .294 over his last 10. Power has been consistent, I remember seeing his BABIP was crazy unlucky at the height on his slump.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 04:28 PM) But when you say, "for his age," what you're really saying is that he is likely to improve -- which makes perfect sense in most cases. I'm saying that given how "raw" his approach is, one must wonder why it hasn't improved much already. He is a 23 year old who hits like a 19 year old. I'm not saying he won't or can't improve, but that we shouldn't assume that he necessarily will. Throw in the shoulder injury, and just IMO, there's enough uncertainty there for me to move him for a C. We haven't had the opportunity to watch his progress since he was in another organization, but we can look at his stats and analysis and see real improvement. Look at his stats 2011 and before and compare them to what he did in 2012 and 2013. To go from a .264/.297 BA/OBP in A+ to the video game numbers he was putting in AAA and holding his own in the majors is significant advancement. Analysis from "Bless You Boys" below, highlighting his improvement as he rose through the Tigers system. http://www.blessyouboys.com/detroit-tigers...-avisail-garcia EDIT: Funny how a post that mentions Garcia exactly one time can inspire a full on discussion on his value, ability to improve, and defensive metrics. I love Soxtalk

Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN 53s Frank Montas had a meniscus injury in one knee this spring and rehabbed it. This one is in the other knee. Needs surgery.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) I'd just much rather be scrambling to find a corner OF than scrambling to find a C. As far as Avi goes, I understand that I'm lower on him than anyone else on the board, but the reality is that he has a LOT to learn both offensively AND defensively, and it just isn't a given that he will. When you consider how completely clueless he's look on both sides of the ball, all of a sudden 23 doesn't seem so young. Talent in spades, no doubt. But he still has to learn to play. I plead ignorance on his defense (I thought it was passable when watching live), but over 103 Major League games he is a .287/.323/.411 hitter. That's frankly amazing considering his age and how raw his approach at the plate is. The injury is a huge set back, I admit, but in the off-season I completely understand Hahn not being willing to discuss him in a deal for Castro.

Josh Norris @jnorris427 2m Frank Montas will miss the Futures Game because he will have knee surgery. #WhiteSox What?? Nooooo

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) This was a really, really great read. I thought the absolute best part of it, perhaps other than the Stanton talks, was when Lunhow asked for Giolito in exchange for Lucas Harrell followed by, "Rizzo did not respond immediately." I think almost every other exchange had some sort of response or consideration after it but Rizzo did not feel the need to respond to it. In terms of talent, I doubt there has ever been a bigger differential between two player who were ever discussed in a one for one trade proposal haha

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 01:34 PM) I'd do it in a second IF Castro came with more team control. He's reputed to be an excellent defender who is developing into one of the best pitch framers in the league. Just one year removed from a 130 wRC+, and two removed from a 100 wRC+. If he gave us 100 going forward with his defense, I'd be thrilled to give up Avi. But he'd have to agree to an extension we liked. I'm not saying I wouldn't love to have Castro, but not for Garcia. It all depends on how he responses to his injury, of course, but I am bullish on him and his future contributions. Bear it mind the kid just turned 23, he's still developing.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) I'd consider Castro for Avi The guy who is currently hitting .218/.297/.363? And before you say small sample size, he's a career .247/.324/.405 major league hitter. Not saying he doesn't have potential, but for Avi? Injured or not, no freakin way.

http://deadspin.com/leaked-10-months-of-th...dium=socialflow http://anonbin.com/2412624498 On October 31st, the transcript mentioned they talked with Rick Hahn and he said he had interest in Jason Castro. He went on to say he has four "untouchable" players, Sale, Quintana, Abreu, and Garcia. Other then that he would consider "anything" and had calls on Reed, Jones, Santiago, and may consider moving Vicedo. On the entry dated November 13th, "RH" (Rick Hahn) asked "JL" (Astros GM Jeff Luhnow) if Hector Santiago would "entice" him. Luhnow said not enough for Castro and later in the day Hahn came back and asked if Bourjos (from LAA) would be better. Bourjos ended up being apart of a separate deal with the Cardinals just 9 days later and Santiago ended up being traded on December 10th.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 10:13 AM) So at midway point, how are people feeling about Hawkins? His K rate staying at 25%, but his BBs are at 11%. Is this year better or worse than expected? Is it good enough to promote or should he stay there? I would describe my feeling as cautiously optimistic. The reports on his hit tool are still ugly, but he's shown marked improvement and he's still very young for that league. I think it would be a huge mistake to promote him until at least the beginning of next year.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 29, 2014 -> 11:43 PM) I would be more excited about Jacob May if he didn't have 0 HR this season in a hitter-friendly ballpark. It is kind of bizarre, considering he hit 8 in 54 games with Kannapolis. However, he is slugging .551 in the month of June and has a 37.3 XBH% for the season, so I am not that concerned.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 28, 2014 -> 07:25 PM) May 3-3 He's hitting .376/.404/.538 and is 19 of 19 in stolen bases for the MONTH of June. He's a freakin beast

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 28, 2014 -> 08:00 AM) Bobby Thigpen is already in the pen, suit him up!! We don't need a "closer." Go by committee; pick the hot hand.

Abreu has six homers in his past ten games. Carry on

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 09:48 PM) Petricka seems to be running out of gas IMO.. He pitches way too much. Well putting him as the closer should give him lots of rest

Impressive and reckless play by Alexei

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 08:38 PM) Jacob May with two more SBs. It seems he is snagging bags at will. He is 16 for 16 in the month of June on stolen base attempts.

http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2014/...is-hot-in-june/ Recap posted. Please forgive the cheesy headline. After looking into him, Jacob May is a fascinating prospect. He has good speed, plays a good center field by the accounts I read, and has shown pop. I will be interested to see how he progresses.

Our long cursed time has finally come to an end. After starting his professional career 0 for 10, Micker Adolfo has his first hit!

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 03:55 PM) Montas 7ip, 7 h, 2 r, 1 er, 3 bb, 5 k, 1 hr Not the greatest line, he obviously didn't have his best stuff and only allowed one run. Impressive

http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2014/...-boil-crawdads/ Recap posted. Unfortunately I will be finishing most of these in the mornings, as the AZL game doesn't start until late.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) Michalczewski stays in Kanny all year despite production right? He won't even be 20 until next February, I would say he should stay in Kannapolis all year. However, the White Sox are very aggressive with their assignments and it wouldn't surprise me if they promoted him.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 11:04 AM) That's before 2013, which means the old BHAM park. The new one is, from what I remember of the 2013 numbers, more neutral. I knew they were playing in a new park, was guessing it would be similar dimensions to the old one. Would have to check on that.
