  3. The DSL Sox scored 11 runs on 5 hits. The team they played had SIX errors. LOL
  4. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 12:51 PM) No need to apologize man as I wasn't offended. I have seen some fans sway back and forth on the issue and just wanted to clarify is all. Personally, its not about being vindictive as it is about cutting ties for the last two months. I can see how I would come across as being vindictive given my rationale or lack there of ( lol) in my posts. I'm just ready to move on and give Wilkins a chance to show, if anything, what he can do. Worst case scenario is the Sox still end up with a gaping hole at DH to be filled this winter. Gotcha! Glad we are on the same page. Realistically, if Dunn isn't moved by the July 31st deadline he still could be moved through waivers in August similar to what happened with Rios and Thome. Thome was traded on August 31st, roster sizes increase on September 1st. Theoretically, we could do some awful three-headed platoon at DH with Konerko/Dunn/Wilkins for the remainder of the season without having to cut anyone.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:42 AM) We have one of those, possibly, in Rodon. Three possible phenoms in Anderson, Hawkins and Montas. (NOBODY IN ALL OF BASEBALL WILL USE THAT LABEL for Saladino, Sanchez and Semien). If you want to push it, you include Adams and Micah Johnson, although that would be a MAJOR stretch. Who would you propose should play LF, 2B, C and DH next year, assuming Alexei Ramirez is still around? I did not mean we have any phenom in waiting that I would propose making such a rash decision to open playing time for. Just generally speaking, if you have a Kris Bryant or Carlos Rodon ready and waiting in AAA there should be an urgency to use their production on the major league team. In this case with Andy Wilkins, there no such urgency.
  6. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) Actually I have been consistent with Dunn. Ive been wanting him gone for a long while now due to his regression and contract but understood players like him are difficult to trade. Even last winter and into spring when a few were talking about releasing him before the 2014 season began, my stance was to hold out to see if he could be traded for something, anything. If he cannot be traded then I really see no problem with cutting him loose to give some at bats to a guy nearly ten years younger. This is of course just my opinion though. I must reiterate that I'm not counting on Wilkins to be the future DH of this team, just willing to part ways with Dunn to see what Wilkins can do. If the Sox don't move Viciedo maybe try them as a tandem at DH. Just trying to think outside the box is all and be open to other possibilities. Sorry, I did not mean to accuse you specifically of being fickle. My point is that while public opinion around Dunn has swirled, he's just being Dunn providing basic production at an over inflated cost. If we can't trade him, I don't see the benefit of humiliating him further by cutting him in his last month of his contract (possible playing career). We reserve the right to honor Konerko's aging career, but want to be vindictive against Adam Dunn?
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:19 AM) Just noticed Danks would be scheduled to start next Thursday--a day game in Detroit that starts at noon, with the trade deadline at 3. Could be great #hugwatch material.
  8. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) Were also talking about cutting a guy ( Dunn) who isn't producing, hasn't been producing, most fans are not happy with and will likely/ thankfully not be with the Sox next season. The Sox have more to gain by giving Wilkins a look than 2 more months of Dunn. Even of Wilkins shows he's not the real deal at least the Sox will know going into the off season. Who knows, maybe some team like the Pirates come calling looking for a guy like Wilkins and the Sox can grab some kind of young raw pitching talent. I agree its more than likely Wilkins doesn't amount to much in a major league uniform but the Sox stand nothing to lose by cutting their losses with Dunn ( if he isn't traded) and see what Wilkins can do. I am not counting on Wilkins, just willing to give him a shot is all. I think it's funny to watch the sentiment on Dunn swing wildly over the course of his contract when at it's completion he will give the White Sox basically what his career lines have been if you factor in age related regression. It's gone from excitement (finally a left handed middle of the order bat!), to unrequited bitterness and unmerciful booing, to discussing re-signing him, to now wanting to cut him thanks to an organization filler having a hot week. Andy Wilkins completely deserves a September callup when the roster expand, but Dunn's production/value is not tied to Wilkins in any way whatsoever. You make trades/cuts to make room for phenoms, not organization fillers. If you want to see what we got with him, give him some meaningless September at bats and a chance in Spring Training to win a bench spot.
  9. I'm encouraged by Luis Martinez debut season. He is a long, long way off, but the scouting report at age 17 was plus fastball and a good curve, it's obviously working for him.
  10. http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2014/...torrid-hitting/ Recap posted. Obviously covers suddenly controversial Andy Wilkins, but great performances from Brandon Brennan, Luis Martinez, Jose Barraza, and Mason Robbins.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) This could change by the end of the day's games, but right now Andy Wilkins leads the IL in homers with 25. The next closest is a 3 way tie at 2nd between Steven Souza, Zach Walters, and Ruben Gotay with 15. Jordan Danks and Josh Phegley are tied for 3rd/5th with 14 a piece. The only player with more in the PCL is Adam Duvall with 26. He's a seemingly similar prospect in a much more hitter friendly environment. Hadn't considered the Thome thing. That's a legitimate possibility. Davidson has 18.
  12. Charlotte Knights ‏@KnightsBaseball 2m Andy Wilkins draws a walk. No HR this time. BOO! #CLTKnights #VoteHomerKnights #MascotMania @MiLB Haha nice work Knight's twitter.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) I got to say...at this point, why not bring him up to the majors. Konerko's farewell tour is why. Even IF we are able to unload Dunn, still two 1B on the roster who can't play any other position.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) Wilkins just a grand slam lmao omg LOLOLOLOL
  15. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) I truly believe that if we move Danks, we're all going to be disappointed with the return. Unless moving his contract will truly open up the door to a big acquisition, I think he's more valuable to us as a relatively stable back-end rotation piece (in a rotation that includes Scott Carroll) than he is to any other team as a rotation plug. Trades are fun, but if I'm being honest with myself, I think we should just keep him. It's true. No one we are dangling on the trade market is going to return much of anything except financial flexibility or roster spots. That is, unless we trade Alexei, I would expect a haul for him.
  16. Andy Wilkins homers AGAIN. unbelievable. That is eight homers in his past seven games.
  17. Hawkins homers, his 16th of the season. May swipes his 37th bag. Narvaez doubles and walks. Now batting .328 with a OBP around .450 in 23 games with the Dash.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 08:44 AM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20140723 Day games. Nice I love the day games, helps pass the time in the office in the afternoon.
  19. Don't look now, but Nestor Molina has a 0.57 ERA over his last 15.2 innings. He's given up five hits, walked one, and struck out ten over that span. I know he was horribly misjudged by Kenny Williams and whatever scout said he was close to being a major league starter, but could he be a useful bullpen piece?
  20. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 10:56 PM) Spencer Adams has struck out 9 in 4 innings, walking 1 and giving up 6 hits and 2 runs. 23 strikeouts to 2 walks in 17.2 IP now. His BABIP must be insane. Micker Adolfo is 2-3 with a double and a homer. I did a double take when I saw Adam's line. That is filthy.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 09:01 AM) In addition to Johnson, there were a number of other nice pitching performances last night. Dykstra with a nice A+ debut: 6.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 8 K. Recchia 1 ER in 6.1 IP, keeping his ERA under 3 (though he only K'd 2). Lowry came back from DL and threw 5 1-hit innings, 2 walks and 6 K. Luis Martinez in AZL went 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K and he's still just 19. Luis Martinez, signed for 250k out of Venezuela, was one of Marco Paddy's first signings.
  22. http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2014/...y-in-charlotte/ recap posted. Home run derby in Charlotte, strong starting pitching throughout the levels.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) To Keith Law's credit (can't believe I am saying that), he had a funny tweet during the ASG about Sale. Said something like "I told you Chris Sale was destined to be a reliever". He ate his crow. He has. I've read Law answering questions about poor deliveries in prospects and saying something to the effect of "Well it worked out for Sale..." Chris Sale's sucess has obviously rocked Keith Law to his very core.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) Paul Goldschmidt was the MVP runner up last year, led the league in homers, won a gold glove and a silver slugger. He's having another great year this year too. He was also never ranked as a top 100 prospect. Robinson Cano is considered the best 2B of this generation of players and he is widely considered the best in the game at his job now. He signed a $240 million contract over 10 years. However, he, too, was never a top 100 prospect. These rankings are nice, and I'll never discourage them from being posted or discussed, but they are ultimately meaningless. The list goes on and on with guys who made it who were never highly ranked prospects, I agree Wite. Its an awesome thing about baseball, talent comes from all difference places at different times for everyone. However, the overwhelming majority of stars were on these types of lists and while there are plenty of busts, it's still relevant.
  25. Also surprised he ranked five 2014 draft picks in the top 50....seems high to me considering most have a extremely small sample size or none at all in professional baseball. I guess he believes it's an excellent draft class?
