  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) 3) The "Impossible Skillset liar-face". Example Skillset: Windows 7, Windows XP, *nix (Linux/Unix), Mac OSX, VAX, Mainframe, C++, Java, C#, Scripting, Perl, PHP, HTML, Cisco Routers/Firewalls, Checkpoint, etc... Basically, they claim to know everything about everything related to a specific industry. These are immediately dismissed, because no you don't...and if you did, you wouldn't have to look for jobs...ever, because jobs would look for you. I swear I've seen job openings that have required that much skill and more. I never applied at those places because it's probably just a company that needs a "computer guy" and they really have no idea what skills are needed for the position.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) It would be pretty easy as an admin... Just because something is deleted, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist anymore.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) I'm pretty sure you're still supposed to report and pay that tax as the consumer, but no one does. from yahoo: http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/r-article-a...it_who_doesnt-i Consumers' Responsibility to Pay Sales or Use Taxes Consumers who live in a state that collects sales tax are technically required to pay the tax to the state even when an Internet retailer doesn't collect it. When consumers are required to pay tax directly to the state, it is referred to as "use" tax rather than sales tax. The only difference between sales and use tax is which person -- the seller or the buyer -- pays the state. Theoretically, use taxes are just a backup plan to make sure that the state collects revenue on every taxable item that is purchased within its borders. But because collecting use tax on smaller purchases is so much trouble, states have traditionally attempted to collect a use tax only on big-ticket items that require licenses, such as cars and boats. Some states, including Connecticut, Maine, Nebraska, New Jersey, and North Carolina, have changed their attitudes and are stepping up efforts to collect use taxes. But bureaucracy, complex tax rules, and limited state resources have thus far prevented most states from pursuing use taxes. Since state governments are losing substantial revenue, the collection of use taxes may become a priority if the federal government continues its ban on Internet e-commerce taxes. You are supposed to report anything you bought out of state and brought back to Illinois. In fact, I remember this exact question coming up on TurboTax when I did my taxes a few weeks ago. Of course I'm sure everyone kept all their receipts of out-of-state purchases and filled in the proper amount on their 1040 this year...
  4. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 12:25 AM) Glad I'm not the only one that doesn't care for college sports. I have no interest in watching a second rate product. Give me the NBA and NFL all day. Same here. The only reason I pay any attention to March Madness is so I know how much longer I have to put up with it until baseball season starts.
  5. I got a FB invite to another one of those stupid "no gas" days that never work. I will actually be taking part in it simply because it falls on a Thursday. I don't get gas on that day. I do get it on Wednesday and Friday though. I'll certainly show those evil oil companies!
  6. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Mar 7, 2011 -> 07:54 AM) Off the top of my head- http://www.greatwolf.com/dells/waterpark I was going to suggest Mt. Olympus for the coasters and go karts but then I noticed your kids are 6 and 9, so they might not have as much to do. You can trip and fall on (good) mini-golf in the Dells though. If you don't want to stay at Great Wolf, find a cheaper place and go to Noah's Ark (waterpark). Mt. Olympus has tons of stuff for younger kids. They just added more stuff in the last few years and there is an entire indoor area that has a bunch of rides for the younger aged kids. Plus all the go-carts are 2-seaters so you can bring the kids with you. I can't say how the hotel part is because we usually bring our pop-up trailer with us and stay at one of the nearby campgrounds for the weekend. The last time we were there we paid for an all-day pass on Saturday and got a pass for the next day for free.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) So how can you say you don't like them then??? Seems like you haven't even watched them haha I didn't say I disliked them. But obviously I can't love something I've never seen. It's just things that everyone else seems to love.
  8. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) What do you do in the baseball offseason then??? I still watch football and basketball sometimes.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 10:28 AM) After reading this I have decided that you are lame. Yea, I know.
  10. Beer and coffee. I can’t stand the taste of either one. Music. It’s not that I don’t like music. I just don’t get into it as much as most people. Most of the time I’m perfectly happy listening to whatever is playing on the radio. I got an MP3 player a few years ago for Christmas and put a couple dozen songs on it but I rarely used it. I ended up giving it to my daughter when hers quit working. I just got a newer MP3 player this past Christmas but I have yet to actually add any songs to it. Football. I like to play it sometimes both in real life and as a video game. I’ll watch a few Bears games during the season but I really can’t call myself a fan. If they win, that’s cool. If they lose, no big deal. Baseball has always been my first sports love. Any number of popular TV shows like The Office, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, etc… I might like them if I actually sat down and watched them but I just don’t have the time right now.
  11. I think having a minor league team closer would be a good thing. How many bus loads of people show up at Wrigley Field every year from Iowa because they are fans of the Iowa Cubs?
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 3, 2011 -> 06:05 PM) This is more true than you may want to believe. This is the reason for scholastic organizations, job fairs, and networking sessions. To get to a high level within the real world, no matter your profession, you really need to know people and to have their trust. Sure, some of it will be proving what you know, but when you get to a certain level of the professional world, when comparing two equal candidates, the one who is more well known within the company by anybody - whether it through a connection of another company or within the company itself - is going to get that job. I can tell you one thing, I am dealing with it right now. I am more than qualified for an entry level job in the business world, but because I really don't have any good connections, I have struggled getting a job to the point where I am just looking for any job because I need money. If I planned on being in Bismarck for longer than 6 months, there would be several professional organizations I would try to get involved in. However, I don't plan on being in Bismarck long, so at this point it's getting a job that has some intrinsic value (looking at being a server at a restaurant, where I will at least be able to get some type of customer service experience on my resume, though I have several other outstanding applications to businesses around the area) so I can have at least some money when I do eventually move away. I don't think I've ever gotten a job where I didn't know somebody (or knew somebody who knew somebody else) within the company. Even the s***ty retail jobs I had in high school I got through connections.
  13. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 12:56 AM) see that Married With Children episode where Al Bundy goes apes*** trying to kill one in his back yard (I think it was a mole). Actually, it was a rabbit. But that episode did give us the "Old McBundy" Song.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 25, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) What kind of terrible company do you work for that won't pay for jury duty and doesn't give days off? I'm a contract programmer. It's better than no job.
  15. Got both my state and Federal returns deposited in my account on Tuesday. Now I have to turn around and give it all to a guy to put a new roof on my house.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 25, 2011 -> 12:26 PM) At least in CA, it also depends on the likely length of the trial. They may think "we'll still put you on a 3 day trial" but they won't put you on a 3 week one. If you're the only income, the rules are a bit weird, but you can claim that as a hardship against long-term trials. Also important...anything you're going to say, try to bring documentation. If you're claiming to be a student, bring a student ID card. If you're traveling, bring copies of the tickets and hotel reservations. If you're a caregiver, try bringing a tax form indicating that fact. I'm not the only income because my wife does work but if I lose a few days worth of pay it will really hurt. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 25, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) Also, you should check with work to see what their policy regarding jury duty is, unless you're self-employed. I already did. If I don't work, I don't get paid. It wouldn't be so bad if I could at least take a vacation day or a personal day and still get paid, but I don't get those anymore.
  17. So I got a summons for jury duty yesterday. I knew it was coming since they had sent me a questionnaire that I was forced to fill-out about a month ago. One of the hardships to get out of it is if you are the “primary care-giver” of a child under 12 years old. Anyone know how they define that term? I’m thinking I’m the primary care-giver because I make the money that pays the bills. If I have go to sit on a jury I don’t get paid. If I don’t get paid I can’t pay my bills.
  18. Pay the ticket, take the Saturday traffic school, stay clean for 12 months and it drops off your record.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) She was a character on the show "blossom" in the 80's (made Joey Lawrence "famous") and was the lead characters best friend. The characters name was Six. I thought about putting up the kid who played Seven on Married with Children the day before but I figured nobody would get that one.
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) $10 mil for one year to a sub .200 hitter is pretty big. But they have big contracts that they should try and get rid of. If they went young, people would still sell that park out in the summer and they would make huge profit. Rebuilding wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for that club. I'm not so sure about that anymore. 2008 and 2009 raised expectations for them a lot. After the 100 year (it's gonna happen) anniversary came and went with no WS trophy Cubs fans are getting a little restless. Suddenly just going to the game for beer and babes while watching the team continue to not win isn't good enough. Their attendance has been declining the past couple years and this year isn't looking that great either. I don't even think they sold-out Cubs Convention.
  21. I've certainly heard of guys getting a manicure before but pedicures not so much. I don't wear sandals often enough to get one anyway.
  22. I can finally add Red Dead Redemption to my list of Rockstar games that I’ve completed to 100%. The others are GTA – Vice City GTA – San Andreas GTA- Liberty City Stories GTA – Vice City Stories GTA IV Next up is either Red Dead Redemption - Undead Nightmare or GTA – The Ballad of Gay Tony. I’ve also got GTA – The Lost and Damned but haven’t started it yet.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 08:31 PM) He'd never been west of Kansas City before he got to AZ. He pitched in Oakland and Anaheim in late September last year.
  24. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) I guess if he really wanted to let it go his statement would have been something like: "My wife and I love dogs, some times our love may cloud our judgment. Regardless of our personal feelings about the subject, we would never wish injury on another person." I think most people would accept that he let his feelings cloud his judgment. But just admit to it. Then he'd be a liar. It wasn't the most PC thing in the world for him to say it but he said what he said and meant what he said. That's it and now it's time to focus on baseball.
