    Wage Talk

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 09:49 AM) http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm#Illinois The minimum wage in Illinois is $6.50 which = $13,520 a year gross. Whitesoxin', if people at your work are being paid under the minimum, here is a site they can (should) report your employer to. http://www.dol.gov/esa/whd/ There are a lot of places that consider 32 hours a week "full-time". You're figuring it at 40 hours a week. I bet a know a few people that make right around $10,000 a year either because of low pay, low hours or both...
  2. I got a 16. It would probably be higher but I can't afford to be a geek. I don't have an Ipod, internet phone, satellite radio, GPS or a cell phone that takes pictures worth anything. I never understood the point of text messaging (plus I get charged like 5 cents for each one) and my computer probably couldn't handle any kind of online gaming. The only reason I have more than one working computer in my house is because my daughter wanted one to play games on and I got tired of kicking her off of it every time I wanted to use it. I just gave her my old one. I could probably network them together if I really wanted to but just haven't bought the hardware to do it. I could also probably build my own PC but I went the cheap and lazy way and got one for a couple hundred at a big box store. Overall I guess I toe the line of geekdom but can still fit in with a sports crowd at US Cellular or a wear all black with my long hair at Metallica concert...
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) The confiction was that he was going to be there Tuesday. He is definitely NOT going to be there Tuesday. Ah. No wonder everybody is confused. or at least me...
  4. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) If the phillies allow him there is no way Rowand wont be there. I've heard conflicting stories...
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) As far as I know, this is the first official confirmation I've seen that Rowand and El Duque will be @ the ring ceremony. Folks, make sure they feel welcome. It says that he's "heard" they'll be back...
  6. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 08:51 AM) walk out of your house and start walking, you'll get there faster. That'd be quit a trek. It usually only gets bad once I get into the city limits. In the past I've debated about just parking somewhere farther north and then taking the train but I've already paid for parking passes now. I guess part of it will also depend on how early I get there. I'm hoping for at least 2 hours before the game.
  7. QUOTE(MEANS @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 12:22 PM) oooooh a bad word, big deal. why one word is deem "bad" over another never made sense to me. I'm always amazed. My kids know pretty much all the words and what they mean. They also know that they aren't allowed to use them. They're going to see/hear them their whole lives no matter how much you try to shelter them. It's just a matter of teaching them that they are only for adults.

    Ice Cream

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) Not unique to your neighborhood. The one on 59 in Naperville I am convinced is run by a 15 year old who had a premature growth spurt. The two times we've been in there he was hanging out front with a crowd of kids that couldn't have been a day over 14 checking out the "rims" on their mountian bikes. I'd never even heard of the place until we went to the Mall of America last summer. We just got one in Rockford not too long ago.

    Ice Cream

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) Moose Tracks does not come in soft serve, therefore soft serve is useless. I go with the Bunny Tracks myself. It's a little bit cheaper and tastes the exact same. If I have soft serve I like to go with the chocolate ice cream dipped in chocolate combo. Anyone ever have Cold Stone Creamery? That place is a little expensive but their ice cream is awesome.
  10. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) Yeah to me the whole title of the article is wrong. She wasn't ticketed because of an anti-Bush sticker she was ticketed cause it said _ _s***. I just heard a conversation this morning about how we are becoming de-sensitized to certain "bad" words. There are a number of words that you hear regularly on the radio or TV that they would never dream of using 20 years ago...
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) Pizza Hut sells alcohol? I'm pretty sure they sell beer. I know Chucky Cheese does. I even found a fast-food restaurant here in Rockford that sells beer.
  12. Normally I just take 90/94 directly from Rockford right to the park. This year I might have to change that with the back-ups expected from the large crowds and construction. Looking at the driving directions on the Sox website it says to take the Roosevelt exit and head east to State. Then take that south to 31st and go back west again. Does that make more sense than heading west on Roosevelt and going south on Halsted or Ashland? What would be the better choice?
  13. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) He seemed like he was trying to prove that one could live at Walmart undetected for a week. He only lasted 41 hours, so i guess he couldnt prove his point. I'm not sure about the undetected part. It seems to me he was just seeing if Wal-Mart could provide everything he needed to live for a week. Really all you need is food, water and a place to sleep. Hell, I could live in a gas station for a week. It was pretty pointless. Wonder if he ever watched "Where the Heart Is"...
  14. The only time I've ever left anyone behind I had somebody else there to remind me before I got to far. One time I forgot about my daughter sleeping in her carseat in the back when I went to a local auto parts store. I got out and was talking to a friend that was with me and he stopped and said "You know you have a kid in the back right?" The other time was on my way to Chicago. We stopped at one of those McDonald's oasis things so everyone could use the bathroom. I got in and drove about 50 feet before my friend next to me mentioned that my wife was still in the bathroom. Oops...
  15. Anyone else notice that the Sox are using a DH while the Cubs are not?
  16. QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 11:46 PM) the only benefit is they match you 100% for 3 months it seems but I dont know the availability of the funds otherwise I would buy stuff that had were like $3.02 or so they are matching the largest amounts possible After that they only match 5%. Plus, they'll only go up to $250 annually. But I guess $250 is $250. I sure wouldn't turn it down if somebody offered it to me...
  17. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) WTF?? Did you buy them from Cub fans?? Who else would be dumb enough to sell them for so little? They're horrible seats (sections 557, 558, 507 in rows 20 or 21) but they can be found for that price or less.

    Tasty.

We probably end up with more bacteria in our bodies just by breathing...
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) Dude, if you are an adult and can honestly say that, I tip my hat to you. I mentioned it in the "Whitesoxin wants to know thread" but I've never been drunk in my life. Alcohol and nicotine don't seem to have much affect on me. Not that I drink a lot anyway. Can't afford it and having kids at 19 really limits your opportunities anyway.
  20. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) It's nice to know that we have so many adult posters that have never gotten drunk in a bar. I'm actually quite proud of it...
  21. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 02:58 PM) I shelled out $35 to see Tater live last year. It was my first stand-up experience and it was worth every penny. His new bit will be debuting this Sunday on Comedy Central. Was that when he was at the NIU convention center? I debated about it but didn't go. I saw him once when he came to Rockford. I also saw (and got to meet) Bill Engvall. I've seen Carrottop 3 times and he show got progressively worse each time. Plus it was always the same basic material. We skipped the 4th time around and of course heard from friends that it was a great show with all new material. :banghead I'd also like to see Rodney Carrington if he ever comes back.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) Yeah, but I can't remember a first name. I've only seen the guy once, doing that particular routine, so his name didn't stick. He's actually pretty funny.
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) I've seen that routine - its one of the blue collar comedy guys, thought I forget which one. The fact that I include the words "Mr. White" might give you a clue.
  24. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 10:00 AM) This is great news! I love Uribe, but nobody can beat Iguchi in the #2 spot. Ozzie just wanted to see if it could work, but it obviously didnt. This is what spring training is for. How about moving Dye to the 3 hole and Thome to the 5 hole now? Its important to have quicker guys at the top 3, Thome and Konerko would be the perfect 4,5 in my opinion. This is what i think Ozzie should do: Pods, Gooch, Dye, Konerko, Thome, Uribe, Pierzynski, Anderson, Crede The Red Sox seem to do OK with their slow-footed 3,4 hitters...
  25. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 12:10 PM) But these arrests are for public intox. The cop was like, "Mr. White, you are being charged with drunk in public-KA!" I was like, "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! I was drunk in a bar! They, threw me into public-KA! I don't want to be drunk in public! I wanna be drunk in a bar, which is perfectly legal! Arrest them!"
