All the ground balls by Danish are great. Hope the swing and miss starts to develop too though.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (southside hitman @ May 24, 2014 -> 01:15 PM) Yeah I would be pretty pissed/shocked if they selected Pentecost. If they wanted to go hitter, which I don't think they should, then go for Alex Jackson. I actually like Pentecost, though 3 would be an overdraft. I still think he's going to go rather early in an under-slot selection due to the lack of true catchers and college bats overall. None of his tools grade out remarkably but they are all at least average. Combine that with solid defensive ability and he's a legitimate top 15 guy.

Aaron Fitt really likes Aaron Nola at least. Aaron Fitt @aaronfitt 5m Aaron Nola is awesome. I am convinced that he is going to be a very, very good big leaguer, and fast. He's just smothered Hogs since 1st. Expand

For anyone watching, LSU's shortstop Alex Bregman is an early candidate for one of the top picks in the 2015 class.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (flavum @ May 22, 2014 -> 05:22 PM) I'm no scouting eye expert, but I really like Aiken's delivery. Seems real simple. Kolek scares the crap out of me, but could very well be a future all-star. Maybe they like Aiken and would take him at 3, but not Kolek....and Nola is a Plan B if Rodon and Aiken are gone. I hope so. Aiken is my 1-1. Nola as a fallback option with some financial flexibility involved would be fine with me too.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2014 -> 05:09 PM) You would hope so. I wouldn't be too upset with Nola, as his stuff is much better than the likes of Broadway. I would prefer Aiken over him, but I still can't imagine the Sox taking a high school pitcher with the 3rd pick of the draft. I don't mind Nola. Not sure I'd want him at full slot though. The fastball and breaking ball are good pitches. The pitchability, command, and makeup are great as well. The main knock on him is the arm-slot and how he will fare against left handed hitters at the next level. He's almost a side-armer.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 22, 2014 -> 05:07 PM) Is Nola someone they could make a deal with that's on the cheaper side to spend more later on? Likely. He's not a top 3 talent. More like top 10.

2014 Draft class
Stinnett is touching 98 with serious movement. The command isn't impeccable, but that fastball looks great. Slider isn't bad either. 6 K's through 4. He's really interesting considering he's a senior with legitimate talent, and he's likely to be underslotted due to a lack of leverage.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (flavum @ May 22, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) I think what he means is if Gillaspie was there at 44, of course the Sox would take him, because that's the White Sox way with relatives. That said, he'll be gone before 44 based on what I've read. He's indeed getting late 1st round hype as of late. Unlike some past nepotism, Gillaspie would be quite worthy at 44. He might even be a steal there.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 22, 2014 -> 10:31 AM) Gillaspie is a lock for us at 44 right? No. There isn't even a lock at 1-1 in this draft. Calling a lock at 44 would be absurd.

QUOTE (Dunt @ May 22, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) Question for the masses: I want to subscribe to either Baseball America or Baseball Prospectus and am wondering which you guys prefer for prospect information? I enjoy both the Effectively Wild and Baseball America podcasts quite a bit and can't decide which I'd rather give my money to. I'd personally go Baseball America, as they have much more draft coverage than BP and that's what is going to be interesting throughout the next month or so.

2014 Draft class
Virginia/Maryland is also underway. I'll list the current BA draft rank in parenthesis. Plenty of interesting draft prospects in that one. Jake Stinnett (66) pitches for Maryland. He's a legit talent who is a senior and could provide some draft savings due to lack of leverage. For Virginia, most people already know plenty about Derek Fisher (30), as he was one of the most touted college bats to begin the season. OF/1B/DH Mike Papi (45) is a little less known around here but he could be of interest to those who like Casey Gillaspie. OF Brandon Downes (171) is worth mentioning. Lastly you have RHP/1B/3B Nick Howard (25) who has serious helium. Callis wrote about him just today actually. Fun day to be off work!

Which Sox are going to be traded this summer?
QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) Looking at the standings, none of the teams toward the top need a SS right now. The NL Central trio of StL, Pit and Cin were the three we always discussed, but the Cards have Peralta now and the two other teams are out of contention. I'm not counting out either of Pittsburgh/Cincini this early.

Which Sox are going to be traded this summer?
QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) I just can't picture anyone besides Alexei having significant trade value right now. Which is why I hope Hahn is dangling him this season for a significant overpay. Sell high please.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2014 -> 01:49 PM) Luke Weaver in the 2nd round seems like it would be a pretty good pick. Yep. I've been meaning to post as such but haven't gotten around to it. Especially true if the Sox end up with a prep pitcher with the 3rd pick. A fast-moving college arm with the second rounder would be ideal. Weaver is legit.
