Why does a team need two hitting coaches?

The 40-man, Rule 5, and roster decisions
Every time I see Michael Ynoa's name, I have to laugh, remembering that Rick Hahn said right after the Shark trade that he held out for Ynoa to be included, implying that he would not have made the trade without him.

Four file for Free Agency
QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 04:33 PM) Anybody have a link for somewhere where we can see the current 40 man? White Sox web page.

What if the Sox had ...
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 02:55 AM) Problem is, for us, unless KC really screws it up somehow, they should be on top of the division at least 2 more seasons. Anything can happen once you win the division and get in the ALDS. Gotta hand it to KC's GM, Dayton Whatshisname. He made some great moves.

Arizona Fall League
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 31, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) Engel's performance is the most impressive, but I'll still take Michalczewski over him for prospect value every time. I like Engel, but not as much as Trey. Northsider: Who do you like most, Engel or May?

Ian Desmond: Perfect Buy Low Candidate?
Re: Puig. I think Mattingly was fed up with him. New Manager might feel differently.

My/Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (Ballz-n-Strikes @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 12:53 AM) Well..yeah..there..is. He's done MLB time and he's been sent down. He doesn't hit (when up) and his defense is atrocious. He pretty much sucks. AT EVERYTHING - he's supposed to be good at. Anyway - Here's MY PLAN: Sign Cespedes (4 years at least) Don't trade any of our pitchers Give Avi One more Chance (Ces,Eat,Avi) LaRoche (Who? - DFA...eat the $) Let our SP pitch. LET THEM PITCH!!!! That's it. I want Cespedes IN and LaRoche OUT of my life. 5-10 WINS...right there. 2017...different plan. Not a bad plan. Cespedes will really be expensive. I remember when Oakland orig signed him, either he or his agent said he will be out to "break the bank" when eligible for his first FA signing. Still, he would look good here. LaRoach? Do you DFA him now, or see what he does in ST? All those dollars can be partly justified by not signing Alexi and formally saying bye bye to Shark.

What if the Sox had ...
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 03:04 AM) I don't see why I see this kind of post so often. We are not a snake bit team or have a curse of anything of that nature. It just was an ill advised signing of a player who was too old and could not contribute every day . These kind of "eeyore" posts are kind of silly. Instead of putting the blame where it belongs it gets put on some kind of Sox karma thing. A really good shrink could answer your question and explain the thought process involved and explain why this occurs. Not that I have ever been to a shrink, however. But, sports fans, especially fans of losing teams, seem to gravitate toward these psychological flaws. This would have been a good thread-starter.

My/Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 07:21 PM) I'm guessing they wanna play Rosario at 1B. Wouldn't mind Morneau if they dump Laroche. scs787, I have a hunch you have never seen Rosario play first base. Terrible is an understatement. That's why he was sent down mid season. He is actually worse at first than at catcher.

Ian Desmond: Perfect Buy Low Candidate?
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 01:56 PM) Exactly. Picking up Alexei's option is a near no-brainer IMO. Sure, the Sox may be paying him a $1-2M more than his "market value", but they have a replacement a year away and the FA market is void of legitimate 1 year options that are going to be both cheaper and more or equally effective on the field (as Alexei). Pick up the option, and worry about 3B, C and a legitimate corner OF. I don't think it's a no-brainer to pick up Alexi's option. Unless sentimentality is part of the deal. Saladino as good at 6% the cost. Spend the money elsewhere.

Hey, we swept the Royals in KC in September.

Justin Morneau or another year of LaRoche
Morneau should retire. Great career, but this last concussion came on a play where he dived for the ball and came up concussed.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) Was Iguchi that much more of a star in Japan? Obviously, Japan was/is stronger in terms of overall talent, but the gap is closing year after year. The positional flexibility issue is a big concern, though. We already have Cabrera, Garcia, Abreu, LaRoche, Olt, Davidson, Soto and even Micah that all might be best suited for the DH role. Yes. Is this Korean slugger a better hitter than Dan Black?

White Sox claim Jacob Turner from Cubs
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 09:08 PM) Great pick up. Low risk, high reward. Roster at 39 now? I believe it's 38. Could be wrong, but I had 37 in my mind before this pick-up. Three on that list are pretty certain to be moved: Shark, Beckham, and Webb.

State of the White Sox Address a Position
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 08:02 AM) What's your beef with Latos? The fact he had one bad year? That's exactly what makes him attractive, low acquisition cost but with big upside. He very well might suck again, but he's exactly the type of pitcher we should be targeting. There is no reason to sign a starter for more than one or two years given our pitching depth in the minors. You're right. Latos had one bad year, a really bad year, and it was last year. Four teams bad. Dodgers cut him in their stretch drive. I saw him pitch a few games, and he got hit very hard. Plus he's fat and got paid $9 Large last year.

State of the White Sox Address a Position
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 05:56 AM) I don't see us trading Quintana, because that creates a hole in the rotation that will be difficult to fill. A 1-2-3 of Sale, Rodon, & Quintana is critical if we want to compete in 2016/2017. I could see us trading Erik Johnson in a package for a young position player and then going out and signing a veteran free agent like Latos or Fister to fill the #4 spot. Fulmer potentially being a mid-season call-up gives us the flexibility to go with a couple of veterans in the back of the rotation and trade some minor league pitching for offense. Latos? You want Latos? Gotta be kidding.

Why paying minor leaguers more money is smart baseball business
Minor league players get financial help in a lot of ways not mentioned, plus many of the younger players are in the 18-21 year age group, and their parents should be able to help, just as many college students get help from their folks. That said, I have long thought that not only should the teams make it better for the young minor leaguers, but also the existing players could help. Of course, it would have to go through the MLPA, which would happen only in fiction, but major league players as a group probably are paid something between $3-4 Billion per year. Tax them a fraction of a per cent per year, match it from the 30 owners, and presto, problem solved. It would be tax deductible. Exclude the players in the first 3 years of service.

White Sox looking for new 3B and C
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 25, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) Some might, but not the one for the White Sox. Not a single elite prospect in the bunch. And of course, Starlin Castro, who has about zero trade value. I'll bet you right here that they will trade Castro for something worthwhile. Just hope its not with the Sox. Some GM will overpay for him.

White Sox looking for new 3B and C
QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 24, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) I like Latos. I'd keep an eye on Iwakuma but not sure how to gage his value in the open market. As far as the Cubs, I think they move Soler and Castro. Personally, given that they probably get next to nothing for Castro, I would consider going Baez-Russell-Castro at 3B-SS-2B with LaStella being a change of pace 2B/3B. Move Bryant to RF, with Schwarber in LF and get a great defender in CF. Hitters like Latos, too.

2016 Steamer Projections and the Reality of this Offseason
QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 06:44 AM) Not whining at all, simply making an observation in regards to the amount of work they need to do. Their projections wont really change from now until April, so again, your point is kind of moot. Of course teams can overperform and underperform their projections, most of the time they end up being relatively accurate though. If you are so angsty over random threads trying to spark discussion during the offseason, maybe it's time you step away from the keyboard for awhile chief. fat chance.

Sox have asked Indians about Sandy Alomar Jr
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 06:32 AM) I am surprised the Sox would be willing to hire someone like Alomar as bench coach. He paid his dues as an organizational coach before joining a Major League staff for the past few years. I was really hoping we would hire a guy straight from coaching high school baseball to an important position. ala the Rockies.

Article on Hanley Ramirez
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 03:26 PM) And at 22.7M, Hanley is just... Hanley. All things being equal I'll take one year of Valbuena over Hanley, his salary and s*** for defense. Since you have it all figured out, where do the Astros play Lowrie whom is also a 3B? He's under contract through '17 and is not going to sit on the bench for the 14M he is owed during the next two seasons. Again, Houston has no reason or need to trade for Hanley. In an effort to steer this back on track. What is your trade proposal with Boston that brings Hanley to the White Sox? I think he said LaRoche for Hanley + cash. Then, someone else pointed out that Bosox do not need LaRoche, even a good LaRoche, and I agree.
