QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 04:32 PM) Seems to me that I'd call up the minor leaguer with the best chance of helping in the playoffs since he'll be playoff eligible if he stays on the roster through the end of August. Josh Kinney is definitely not that guy. My guess is he won't be on the roster come August 31st. Hopefully Viciedo can get healthy soon, because this would be a great way to make him playoff eligible and allow us a little more roster flexibility come playoff time. Playoffs?? PLAYOFFS????

Josh Kinney has solid numbers this year for Charlotte. Why not bring him up. Granted he is 32 and therefore not an ideal prospect for long term, but he has done well all year and is an experienced guy.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 08:12 AM) Vin Scully is great at what he does, but I about fall asleep watching Dodger's games cause his broadcasts are so boring. What are you drinking and what pills are you ingesting during the games? It's not the announcer that makes the game interesting. If that's all it takes, then they would hire someone like Dennis Miller to do the broadcasts. Or has that been done already?

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 08:06 AM) Beckham was a line drive machine when he came up. Walker deserves blame in this, but there were questions about whether his swing mechanics would work at the big league level. I don't trust anyone currently in the White Sox organization to recognize a good hitter. Off the top of my head the best hitters acquired since Williams became GM were 1. Thome, 2. Dye, 3. Quentin. Not exactly stellar. You'r right, Beckham was a line drive machine, or at least I remember him being a lot better hitter then than now. But even in his rookie year, Mark Gonzalez of the Trib talked about his loopy swing and that pitchers would quickly figure out how to get him out. He did this in his Mailbag columns. Geez, he might be a better hitting coach than Walker.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) I heard Hawk a week or so ago say on the air this was the most frustrating sox team he's ever covered. Compared to announcers on all the other teams, he's like Howard Cosell. You won't hear a peep of negativity from the Royals announcers. Most announcers are total shills. You may hate Hawk but he's OK. Vin Scully of Dodgers is the exception. He is secure enough that no one tells him what to say. He's the best.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) It'd certainly be nice since he brings nothing to the bench, but he'd have to accept a demotion... I think. Where are our capologists? Dunn's service time prevents Sox from sending him to minors.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 08:38 AM) We didn't have a first round pick, so that cuts out a few million, but that doesn't excuse the rest of the draft. In fact, it should mean that they would spend more money on the tough signs, especially with how bare the system is, getting as many live bodies as we can down there should've been the biggest priority, even if it meant spending a little bit more. But we spent $14,000,000 on Dunn in 2011.

Sorry, meant CF prospect.

Who is the better CH prospect, Jordan Danks or Justin Greene?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 05:52 AM) DLS actually recorded his first "hold" of the season yesterday... ERA just above 2.00. But F. Francisco was still the best reliever we traded (we barely had him for long, he came for Howry from BOS)...as part of the Everett deal. Guerrier was traded for Marte as a starter to the Pirates and eventually blossomed elsewhere. Who is DLS??

Axelrod not on 40 man roster, but Nunez and Infante are.

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 07:10 PM) Cubs spent $12 million.............. What did we spend? -
Chris Ianetta from Rockies prob available.

Last year, Justin Hammel of Rockies had a 'tired arm'. He was useless for last 30 days or so of 2010. This year his arm is still strong. Not the best pitcher in the world, but his arm is still strong. Most likely, he built up his endurance through pitching a lot of innings.

If Sox light up Ubaldo, the Cleveland papers will be on a witch hunt. Of course, if he wins, then the opposite... Sox in trouble if they start swinging at first pitch.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 05:00 PM) If there's not going to be a strict slotting system then there needs to at least be a luxury tax of some sort imposed on teams who spend, spend, spend on amateur players both in the Rule-4 and internationally. I don't know how such a system would work, but a team like the Red Sox should be forced to play by the same rules. If there is no max slot per round or whatever, there should at least be a max total budget allowed for all the amateur signings combined, and the system should go based on record. For example, you finish 25-30th in the league the previous season and you get to spend up to the max, but if you finish with a top-5 record in baseball then you get the tiniest budget possible. And any team that goes over pays dollar-for-dollar to the rest of the league. Or maybe do something similar with picks instead of money. Please explain how you would get this past the Players Association. -
QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 12:50 PM) What about giving Sale a tryout at starting with 1 or 2 spot starts in September? Too logical.

Good article in this week's Sports Illustrated on Toronto's GM Alex Anthopoulos (age 34). He got rid of expensive contracts for a slew of young players, 2011 draft choices, and Jose Bautista. Too late to help Kenny.

Put Jason on that list.

I hope I am not jinxing our boys, but if we were ever primed for a sweep, this is it. KC is 3-7 in last 10, losing four straight. Sox are playing as well as they have all season.

Ozzie should be held accountable and fired for cause. Fruit of the tree.
