According to Forbes, here's where it started. So, he taught math at a prestigious private school in Manhattan. Hired by AG Barr's father (honestly, this is just a weird coincidence, not a conspiracy). Not mentioned above is that he didn't have a degree and was eventually fired. The whole read is fascinating: https://www.forbes.com/sites/lisettevoytko/2019/07/12/jeffrey-epsteins-dark-faade-finally-cracks/

I mean, technically, Yolbert is a big money Cuban.
  8. I remember thinking that Ventura would make a good 3B coach or maybe even a bench coach after Ozzie tantrum'd out. I figured maybe he'd be able to provide a calming presence, teach some guys, etc. I'm so relieved that when I revisit the "Ventura hired as manager thread" that I'm confused and frustrated and not happy. What will never make sense, as @Balta1701 has pointed out before, is how the team overall developed from Ventura Year 1 to the rest of his tenure.

    Diamond Club.
  10. Well, in 2016 Delmonico tore the cover off the ball and everyone was clamoring for him. When the rankings came out, it was the same conversation - he should be ranked even though he's just a DH. Mercedes hasn't been age appropriate until he finally hit AAA. He has no glove. He's hit the shit out of the ball this year. But there's a reason he's not on the Top 30 and saying it's a disservice to Sox fans, even if you understand why, is a backhand to FutureSox. I'll gladly eat crow if he's ever called up and rakes, but with no glove he's going to have to provide more value than all of the OFs that could make it (pushing Eloy to DH), Collins, Vaughn, and Sheets. And that's what pushes him off the list.
  11. People said the same thing about Nicky Delmonico and he had a better glove than Mercedes.
  12. Or they're actually thinking about good marketing that will draw national attention and have people tune in.
  13. I was about to be mad that this thread was revived but this is gold.
  14. If Nate Jones were a hall of famer, sure.
  15. Devil Rays throwbacks or bust.
  16. Thank God this is in California. Bill wouldn't be at his peak calling games in Illinois until 2020.
