QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) Greg is upset that all the feels from Abreu seeing his son led to greatest offensive stretch in history. But, remember the movie Hook? Jack totally choked when his dad didn't show up until late. Gotta clarify that it's Greg H. man. QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 02:16 PM) This. All this. The Sox got nothing out of DH, CF, and pretty much C this season. Abreu had a good year, he wasn't the problem. The bullpen and back of the rotation were largely horses*** as well. Yup. If everyone is even close to average, Abreu would have been pushing us to the playoffs right now. QUOTE (kwill @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 02:42 PM) I have to to be honest, I am just glad he had a second half like this. I thought the league figured him out. It is great to see leading into next season that he is still a middle of the order bat. I just think its start transitioning him into a DH. It happens to many 1st baseman when they get older. He does not need to be a full time DH as I do believe it is a transition to mentally stay in the game as a DH. But, the Sox would be wise either to have Mrorneau play more 1st base next year or sign a true 1st baseman. Players do have tough years hitting. Certainly McCutchen has gone through it this year. You can point to our own Konerko. I don't think you can blame Jose for the failure of this team. Certainly, you can blame Frazier for not only developing an upper cut home happy swing but his fielding was league average as well. Going forward, I am pretty optimistic for the Sox. I know that is strange for this board but they have several things working for them. -Tim Anderson seems like a quality major league shortstop. This is the first position player developed in awhile. -They seemed to have a great draft so far. Probably the best in the big leagues. - Both Quintana and Sale stayed healthy and pitched like aces - Miguel Gonzalez seems like a quality back end of arm of the rotation to replace Danks. -Adam Eaton has turned into the best right fielder in the game. I am torn between going for it next year and rebuilding. I still lean toward trading Sale. Next years Free Agent crop is not very good. I think it would be hard to add the necessary pieces to put this team over the top. Plus, I think the Sox could probably get a good bidding war going between the Dodgers, Yankees and Red Sox. If you trade Sale, you trade everyone on the major league roster outside of Rodon, Anderson and Saladino.

QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) Yeah, the bandwagon f***ers piss me off. They will be jumping up and down screaming how much they love the cubs and have been waiting for this. Most can't even name the manager from 2014. I had friends saying they were waiting their whole lives for last season. So the NLCS. Which they were in in 2003.

QUOTE (SpankyEaton @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 07:46 AM) Let me ask you all this. Is there, or should there be "Chicago fans," where people are loyal to one team but cheer for the other in the postseason if their team is not there? And, if your wife/girlfriend/family/friends are Cubs fans or have ties to being Cubs fans, how would you approach what is about to happen this October? My approach right now is to just not address it and say they are having a hell of the season. I wish them well but I am not actively cheering for or against them. I really can't see anyone but the Nationals having a legit shot beating the Northsiders in the postseason. Nope. How many of them rooted against the Sox in 2005? And with my grandfather no longer around, I'd gain no joy from them winning. And considering many of them would be gloating/making life miserable for Sox fans, I have the interest to root against them.

While most of the Marvel films have forgettable scores, Alan Silvestri's scores for The First Avenger and Avengers were phenomenal.

Greg, looks like you'll have to pick someone other than Jesse Ventura. http://www.businessinsider.com/jesse-ventu...epernick-2016-9

Would really enjoy if the next stadium blends the best aspects of Comiskey Park and The Cell, with the skyline in the background. That would be the best.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) We still don't know if Saladino is capable of everyday play or how well he'd do at SS for 7-10 days. Do we? What is the point of testing if we have Anderson there? Unless you're talking about the bat. Saladino was the 3B starter a good chunk last year.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 08:45 PM) The pen isn't really that big of a problem. Robertson and Jones will be fine. We just rode them too hard when Putnam, Petricka, and Duke were taken out of the equation, and then we paid for it for a while. Jones hasn't given up a run since August. Robertson has given up a single run twice in his last 12 outings, and been scoreless in his other 10 during that stretch. His numbers have improved a ton since he hasn't been pitching back to back nor multiple inning outings. Dan Jennings has been a god send. Even with a little regression, he is still a really good reliever. The middle relief is scary right now, but again, we should have Putnam and Petricka back to cover up what guys like Beck and Ynoa are doing now. That isn't even counting on a guy like Zack Burdi who could come in and be better than all of them, and push everyone into lesser roles, nor is it counting on a cheap signing or two in the off season to fill a role in the middle relief sector. When you think about, Petricka and Putnam going down was really when this team fell apart. Albers couldn't pick up the slack, Robertson and Jones got run into the ground. It all fell apart.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 05:38 PM) If the Cubs won the World Series and Trump won the election, woud he invite Ricketts and the Cubs to the White House? With Cleveland winning, that's definitely three signs of the apocalypse.

QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 09:35 AM) I'm with you Greg. It's really an amazing time to be a live and in the great city of Chicago. I, for one, moved near Wrigley field (within a walk 0.5 mi away) to get to enjoy this wonderful moment coming. Well Greg just jinxed the hell out of it.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 10:00 PM) Can you believe the Chicago Cubs are going to win the 2016 World Series? It's here and it's happening, folks. And if they win it, the Sox are irrelevant forever. It actually probably would be good for the Sox. To get our front office moving. Chicago is a championship city right now. The Hawks always win the Cup; the Sox won it in 05; the Bulls had the Jordan dynasty. it's crazy. Now the Cubs -- WS champs. It's going to be tough to stomach. Sweet molasses of Parnassus, we just guaranteed the Cubs lose!

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 08:13 PM) Good one! It's the same level as this, unless there's more that just hasn't come out. Donors and fundraisers get ambassadorships. Sometimes it's a seemingly random celebrity. Is it unsavory? Yeah. But it's not corrupt or a scandal.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 10:13 PM) Is Chelsea Clinton actually expected to be a future candidate by others or is this greg's personal theory? Greg and I think a talk radio host he listens to.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 12:23 AM) Did you see Charles Barkley's comments? I can link if you don't wanna google it. This was a Quintana-level curveball.

Guys. The NRA gives money to politicians. Scandal?

None of them are Tebow's caliber

Told my friend that this revealed donors and fundraisers got ambassador appointments. "So...how it's always been done?" Said friend grew up conservative, is now a moderate left.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:00 PM) Captain, Thad, SS2K5, just stop talking to each other. You three turn threads into nonsense repeating the same tired things over and over. Guess what? you wont change each others minds. The end. This. Please.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:11 AM) I said I heard some military on the radio pissed off. No, you just keep saying "the military". Not "some military".

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 01:41 AM) People didnt know how ambassador jobs work? Ironically Strangesox posted an article today about the ambassador to Denmark. http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archiv...denmark/497543/ If this is the worst that they found, then honestly the Democratic party is a lot cleaner than I would have expected. Ambassador positions have always been this way. George W Bush. UK Ambassador- Robert Tuttle He had raised more than $200,000 for Bush's 2004 re-election campaign and inauguration ceremony. He also held the post of United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom from July 2005 to February 2009. Other examples are Canada, David Wilkins, Sweeden, Teel Bivens, etc. Its so common, it actually has a name: Patronage Appointment. And if anyone thinks that Clinton or Trump wont make them, I have a really big bridge in Brooklyn that is for sale. In fact, you probably couldnt pick 2 candidates who were more likely to make patronage appointments. They both love nepotism. Anyway, I think theres a cliche, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. The more they hack, the more I wonder what their true motivation is. Because I just dont believe that hackers are trying to do what is best for me. Maybe I am an old cynic, but something just seems odd about hackers all of a sudden becoming altruistic. Yeah, I immediately thought of the article earlier. Looked up the guy because he was a Hollywood producer, found it was a patronage appointment. Just entirely unshocked about this. I disagree with the practice, but it's not a new or a secret.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 09:58 PM) The guy was hitting .280 before tonight. Limited at bats. How many players nowadays can hit? Saladino can hit. Name five second basemen who are or would be better hitters than Saladino over 550 at bats? 1. The Sox never have a super utility guy that plays as much as the regulars. Saladino was completely buried on the bench by Robin earlier on, before the injury. He was the forgotten man, in fact. 2. I haven't seen the metrics people speaking up for Saladino much. I'm pretty much reading from everybody that he's a sub at best. Murphy, Altuve, Cano, Odor, LeMahieu, Kipnis, Kinsler, Dozier, Forsythe, Zobrist To name a few. As for your other points... 1) People are advocating him as a super-sub. Robin may be gone. 2) That's because when people have dissenting opinions or you think they do, you cover your eyes and ears and ignore it.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 06:34 PM) I love those traits and he can be fun to watch, but you don't make roster regions over things like swagger and flair. If we go off of that, Brett Lawrie is starting every position.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 06:05 PM) Not as much "we" as "greg" making that assumption. Nah, there's plenty of people who like to attribute anything poor Abreu, Alexei or Contreras did to false age.
-
Can we stop this assumption that all Cubans are lying about their age?
