  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 1h Through the White Sox, @79JoseAbreu, has commented on the acquisition of Yoan Moncada. Abreu: "I am very happy about the White Sox acquisition of Yoan Moncada. I’m proud because I played with him in Cienfuegos... More Abreu: "I was his captain, and now we are going to play together again. He is a very talented player...More Abreu: "and it will be an honor to work with, guide and support him”. One more, Abreu: “(Moncada) is going to make a huge impact in the White Sox organization and both the fans and the team will be thankful” This quote alone makes me think Abreu is staying.
  2. Here's hoping they can turn Diaz into another Frankie Montas, who was similarly ranked when they got him.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 10:23 AM) A lot of talk about him a few years ago in the draft threads. Particularly from JoeCoolMan So did I. Wanted him with the pick we used on Jace Fry I believe.
  4. Anderson seems ready to learn and develop his patience at the plate, so we can see what happens next year.

QUOTE (ron883 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 08:17 AM) Did Lester have an issue signing with the rebuilding cubs? For a mega contract, Machado to would come here to be the Lester of our white sox imo. 9 years 270m, possibly frontloaded. Sox will have so much payroll. A lot depends on if Anderson and Rodon take the next step. Giolito, Lopez and Moncada will need to be progressing along nicely and Collins ready to go. Tall order, but if the framework of a contender is there I can see Machado or Harper being interested.

QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:30 PM) If i'm Rick Hahn and I have a legit shot at signing Machado or Harper I am on that 100 times out of 100. Agreed. In 2018, if I'm Hahn and my stockpiled arms are turning into a formidable rotation, Anderson, Moncada and Collins are blossoming and the OF prospects are holding the fort down the oldest core piece would be Rodon at the ripe age of 25. They don't even have to be All-Star caliber yet, but approaching it. Machado and Harper will be 26. I'm pushing like hell to get one of (if not) both of them to push the team over the brink. Assuming the Sox don't dish out big contracts in the next few years, only Rodon's contact situation will be worrisome.
  7. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:13 AM) I tend to agree. Let's just assume Hahn was torn between the Red Sox package for Sale, or the Nationals. Maybe one consideration was that if the Astros consider themselves a playoff team, one team they might have to go through is Boston. By sending Sale to Boston, Hahn strengthened a potential Astros opponent. How can the Astros counter? By adding the next best available pitcher to negate some of the that added value. Who owns that pitcher? The same guy who provided Red Sox with the boost in the first place. It's like an arms dealer who is selling guns to both sides of a war. He's biting off both ends. It also makes the Yankees need an arm like Q even more. He raises both of their needs for Q and can get them to bid.
  8. I think somehow in the end, Hahn gets Bregman if he deals with the Astros. Would likely be a Q+ deal for Bregman+, but Hahn just pulled off Moncada and Giolito. I don't think anyone expected the Red Sox to part with Moncada or the Nats to give up Giolito for Eaton. Hahn upped Quintana's trade value by sending him to the Red Sox, because it means other teams really have to step up to go after them.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:38 PM) I love the way how some fans turn on a hardnosed player like Adam. Look what he did for this blind child. Yeah, Eaton is a bad guy. Give me a break. Keep rooting for prospects. Maybe someday they'll be as good as Eaton. I never fell for Adam as a player; I thought he was good not great and actually was improving every year, but this story shows what a good man he must be. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...-065247398.html What is it with you and this "ME AND EVERYONE I LIKE AGAINST THE WORLD" mentality? You have to bring it into every damn thread and then put words in others mouths.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) I hope you are open to us directing all of your conversation with this coworker. Ask him if he prefers lostfan or ezio auditore
  11. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:03 AM) The guy who sits next to me at work is a Nats fan and thinks Giolito is going to flame out, will never be more than a 4th starter. idk, I'm inclined to think if that was true, it's less likely to happen with the Sox as it is the Nats, because the Sox as an organization have a very good track record of developing young pitchers both from the farm and in guys they acquired elsewhere. Tell him Eaton isn't god in CF like he is RF.
  12. If we can't get Bregman, which looks unlikely, I don't like what the Astros are offering up and would much rather go to the Yankees or Rockies.
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/12...lings.html?_r=1 No more excerpts because it's heavily a photojournalism piece, but the crackdown going on in the Philippines right now is just brutal. One of the most haunting pieces I've read in recent memory.
  14. From MLB Pipeline. Covey was #20 prospect in Oakland's system.
  15. Yankees getting torn up.
  16. JJ Cooper ‏@jjcoop36 14s15 seconds ago Alexandria, VA 9) White Sox take RHP Dylan Covey (As) former 1st round pick out of HS, stock has taken a dip.
  17. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:52 AM) When terrorists abroad target a building with the brand name of the U.S. president in another country (this is a matter of when, not if - it will happen) how's his f***ing mental midget who gets triggered by SNL and mean tweets going to respond? And I'm not joking either.
  18. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:32 AM) While I am disappointed that the Sox did not get Trea Turner or at least Robles from the Nats., what is done is done. Looking forward, there is no question that the Sox need to augment the very small core of young position players (Moncada, Zack Collons and Tim Anderson) with some additional position players that are elite prospects in their early twenties in order for this rebuilding plan to work. It doesn't appear that they can get prospects like that now that sale has been traded,, which, I guess, is the point of this thread. A Quintana deal will almost certainly bring back position players.
  19. Tyson Ross Morneau if he doesn't get any suitors/wants to continue his rehab Matt Albers
  20. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 05:58 AM) WAR is used by way too many people as the supreme basis for a player's value. It's a made up stat. I like how Heyman b**** slapped BK over it. WAR is one stat of many that goes into player evaluation. Kevin Millar had an excellent take on WAR as well. Does McCutcheon get downgraded defensively because he's asked to play shallow and a ball gets hit over his head, thus decreasing his defensive WAR? It's all relative. Like Heyman said, Lou Whitaker has a higher WAR than Derek Jeter. Well, by fWAR Jeter has a slightly higher WAR than Whitaker by 2. Jeter was hurt by the fact that he had some terrible range on defense. And it's a stat that takes into account damn near everything - it's not made up. It's not the end-all-be-all, but it tells us that the myth of Derek Jeter the amazing defender is false, which is made up by just the eye test.
  21. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:56 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 1m1 minute ago Michael Kopech on comps to Syndergaard: 'I don’t want that to be my ceiling, no disrespect to him. I want to kind of set my own limits.' Daaaaaaaaaaaaayum kid, you dont want your limitation to being as good as Syndergaard? Okay then, lets do it... Love it.
  22. Him and Alexei doing the victory jump is one of my all time favorite things as a Sox fan. They did it all the time and it was so fun to watch their joy together. Dude busted his ass and always gave it his all. Hustled as hard as anyone. I'll miss him plenty. I'll remember back before Sale became CHRIS f***ING SALE and was merely Chris f'in Sale, Eaton was one of the pieces talked about to target in a trade with the DBacks. Then we got him for Hector Santiago.
  23. QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 02:05 AM) I think its possible to pair him up with Frazier and get Bellinger, Barnes and Lux If he's paired with Frazier, getting Bellinger and Lux would be awesome. I'd target someone like Will Smith, assuming players like Diaz and Calhoun would be immediately unavailable.
  24. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:34 AM) I agree with Cameron, I've been saying the same thing for weeks. Most likely nobody elite, but should be able to get some nice talent for sure. Jones for two top 100 prospects would still be pretty sweet. The Ken Giles return would be like Willie Calhoun and Gavin Lux from the Dodgers.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:38 PM) I'm surprised nobody on the board agrees with me that he's too wild. His style of pitching is way too funky. The way he separates his arm and holds the ball out is bizarre at best. Why can't Coop fix him? He has a fastball that moves. No one agrees with you because most of us pay attention to facts.
