  1. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:47 AM) Well obviously Frazier is a great get. But Bruce is a salary dump at this point. But when you factor in Frazier has only 2 years of team control at about $20M, and Eaton has 6 years of team control at $41M, I think it starts to balance out tremendously. Frazier was a 4.4 fWAR player. Eaton was a 3.6 fWAR. Frazier was a 4.0 bWAR player. Eaton was a 3.9 bWAR. Steamer projects Frazier at a 1.0 higher WAR than Eaton in 2016, while getting paid 3x as much. I assume the outrage here is not the overvaluing of Frazier, but rather the undervaluing of Eaton and his tremendously team friendly deal. I mean, Eaton earned more than HALF of his entire contract just in 2015 alone. Frazier is providing surplus value over his contract as well, but for only 2 more years, at at age 31 and 32. Eaton will be 28 and 29 over those same seasons. THAT is why I was/am torn on it still. It's more like none of us see any universe where the Reds make that deal.
  2. I feel like players that made the All-Star team or got MVP votes while with the Sox should be disqualified for this list.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) The players said they wanted to run plays from last year. Well that's just silly.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) Having worked with women in newsrooms, the personal emails, stalking and comments they receive far surpasses anything you can imagine. This has been a well discussed and documented problem beyond Julie Dicaro and not something to dismiss because you don't like her personally. A lot of my female friends have changed their facebook name once they've entered the workplace.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) It's ok to root for your team, but I laugh whenever we make moves in the winter people assume they are GOOD moves. Lawrie is what he is (cliche). He's not going to emerge as a star.
  6. QUOTE (Downtown518 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 01:27 PM) Scot Gregor ‏@scotgregor 3m3 minutes ago Per @JPerrotto, #WhiteSox offered #Pirates Adam LaRoche in a trade, offered to pay $8m of his $13m salary in '16. Bucs declined Ouch.
  7. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 12:32 AM) Frazier is at worst a good power bat and a strong defender at a weak position... Plus, getting him allows us to move Lawrie to 2nd where his bat profiles better We had horrible infield production last year and adding Lawrie and Frazier could be adding 45-50 homers to positions we were probably going to get 15-20 from For real. If we magically added Frazier, the defense doesn't suffer and we add a whole lot of power to a power starved lineup. QUOTE (toasty @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 12:35 AM) Acquire another Reds player? Adam Dunn and Adam LaRoche say hello. At least his name isn't Adam, too... LaRoche never played for the Reds.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 12:25 AM) This is pretty much Lawrie's last chance. He's been a huge bust for a No. 1 pick and obviously the A's think he's no good if they wanted to dump him. Hopefully he'll be humble in this, his last real chance, to make it big. His stats, in fact, were lousy with the A's. We shall see. I am a little surprised a lot of you are happy with the trade. At least he's used to AL pitching, but I see him as a fairly lousy hitter.
  9. I'd be fine parting with Adams, Montas, Anderson and Fulmer in that order if they traded for Frazier. Definitely wouldn't want to see more than one go. In a world where the Sox pony up for a Upton/Heyward, ideally something like Montas, Micah, Guerrero and Engel/May could get it done.
  10. I can't root for him, because he had a beer one time and also Hahn gave up too much. But overall, great pickup by the Sox. I like Wendelken and Erwin, but a back-end starter and relief prospect are more than acceptable for an improvement at third. SoxNet breakdown, with some video: http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2015/12/w...e-brett-lawrie/
  11. Fingers crossed for Avi and a pitcher. I just don't want to see Trayce go.
  12. Jesus Christ that haul is massive. Based on this the Sox could legitimately ask for something like Urias, Pederson/Puig and Barnes from the Dodgers for Q. Not Sale, but Q. I love Quintana, but man, this trade + the massive contracts being handed out pretty much make him and Sale astronomically valuable.
  13. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 01:51 AM) We're not prying Lawrie away from Oakland with some Beck, Hawkins or Danish as a centerpiece. It's going to involve Montas. I can just see the White Sox thinking of him as a future relief pitcher and selling his value based upon that. Hell, we already hand gifted them Bassitt -- why not another starter!? Hahn does realize there are other teams in baseball, right? Eh, Lawrie doesn't exactly have world beater value. I don't see the Sox giving up any of their top four prospects. And lets wait for the deal to go through before crucifying Hahn.
  14. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:43 PM) Hate him why? Just curious. Seems like an odd player to hate ya know QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:44 PM) Yeah very strange. I've always been a big fan of his. 100% because he went to Olivet Nazarene University. I'm from the area and the students from Olivet carry a hilarious arrogance about them. So it's a sports hate, not a genuine "I despise this guy" hate.
  15. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:40 PM) Cubs land Zobrist according to Ken Rosenthal I already hate Zobrist, so awesome!
  16. Just like Gordon, he has returned from whence he came. AJ is probably confused as s***.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) That's not s*** in the grand scheme of the game though. Some teams have $100 million mistakes. For real, a lot of teams that the fanbase are envious of (Cubs, Dodgers, etc.) have all had massive mistakes (E-Jax, a bunch of Dodgers) and the Sox are much smaller in comparison. Melky, LaRoche and Duke are not team breakers by any means while Sale, Quintana, Abreu and Eaton are all phenomenal contracts.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:15 AM) I think people need to look at this another way. Say the White Sox needed a first baseman where economically challenged and trying to win. If LaRoche was coming from another team, how much would the team have to eat to make you not freak out at RH and KW. Remember in 2014, when the White Sox were in a rebuild mode how many freaked out at the team paying Konerko a couple of million to take a victory lap. What if they were actually trying to win? I thing the verdict here is LaRoche is going nowhere unless the Sox eat almost all of his contract. I'd say if there were $5-7M on the table left over, I would do it after talking myself into thinking that he wasn't as terrible when he played the field and that he's still a good defensive first baseman. Also I think the anger with Konerko was the fact that we already had Dunn and Abreu.
  19. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) Yes I did. He sarcastically pointed out why Pederson, Seager, Urias and Puig would be such a throwing darts at the board in the dark move. Wasn't really sarcastic, unless you were sarcastic about Sale not being a sure thing. Sale is more likely to still be dealing in 2020 then all four of those players being All-Stars. I actually really like all of those Dodgers players, but I also really liked Gordon Beckham who MLB picked as their future second baseman of the decade and Steve Stone and Derek Jeter were predicting at least one MVP for. If the Dodgers offered all four of those players for Sale, I'd do the trade and sleep easy at night. If it were only two of Pederson/Seager/Urias, Puig and I have to take back Crawford, no dice. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 06:45 PM) His epxpalanations were certainly more plausible than Chris Sale not being a sure thing just because you want the Sox to trade him. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 06:48 PM) If dodgers offered that package I'd add 2-3 lottery ticket prospects and probably do it. Which package are we talking about? And who's adding lottery tickets, Sox or Dodgers?
  20. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 04:18 PM) It's far from the only reason. In fact, it's towards the bottom of reasons. I've stated my reasons all over this thread. The reason why I bring it up is because everyone believes Sale is a for sure thing through 2020. Every player is far from a sure thing. Especially players that have barely sniffed the bigs (Seager), finished their rookie year with a .210 average (Pederson), not been called up yet (Urias) or are in legal trouble after a tumultuous year that involves his own team disliking him (Puig).
  21. Dougie looking good. Loving the energy of this year's bench mob of Kirk - ET - Doug - Taj - Jo
  22. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) SoCal is rainy? You sure about that? I was wondering the same thing.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 06:29 PM) I know it's not the end-all be-all, but it's an easy stat to check so I checked it. In the year before he was traded, Santana was worth 4.0 fWAR. Last year Sale was worth 6.2. In the 2 years before he was traded, Santana was worth 10.7 fWAR. In the last 2, Sale's been worth 11.4. Santana may already have been the best pitcher of his time, but he also was noticeably trending down. More HR, fewer GB, fewer innings, ERA jumped by more than 1/2 a run. Based solely on performance in the year or two before the trade...it's very close to a wash. Santana > Sale though.
