Nate Jones throwing long toss
QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) 2014 preseason there was talk of Nate being our closer. all those hopes were dashed early I hope he can return to his former pitching form. He would be a great asset later in the season to the '15 sox. It would basically be like getting a reliever in a big midseason trade.

Yoan Moncada signs with Red Sox
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) Why not. Anyone want to guess what Brady Aiken would have gotten as a free agent last year? How about Carlos Rodon the year before? Bryce Harper, Stephen Strasburg.

Yoan Moncada signs with Red Sox
QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 09:59 AM) I wonder if a day is coming where the MLBPA supports American-born players to make scratch like this. Or more likely...Moncada gets thrown in the pool to be drafted just like everyone else. Moncada could be the straw that breaks the camel's back, because it is actually hurting the MLB players more than minor leaguers and draft hopefuls.

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) I have a question for the group to ponder. Would it beneficial to the White Sox to not be able to come to terms with their 1st rounder this year? It would only leave the team with picks in rounds 4-40 and the Sox would only have about $2 million to spend on the entire draft. My idea then would be to go nuts in International Spending this year. In this scenario, the White Sox would pick 9th next year and own their own 1st rounder. They may even have a third 1st rounder as compensation for Samardzija. The White Sox could have one of the biggest draft budgets ever by doing this. I know it would be tricky to pull this year and blatantly skirting the rules but it'd be an awesome strategy. Add a little talent to system through draft this year. Go nuts in International Market, spending way past the restriction and lose the ability for next year. (White Sox never do this) But in 2016, could have potentially 3 first rounders with lots of $$ to maneuver and no budget in International market. This would be awesome. Is this plan crazy? While I see the logic, depends on the talent available. If someone like Matuella is there, you'd be nuts to skip on him just to have a larger budget next year.

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 07:57 AM) Especially with the 2nd and 3rd round picks gone this year, it's key to get the BPA in the 1st and probably for the 4th/5th too. But I would like to see the White Sox try to grab the best college catcher available starting around the 5th/6th round if they haven't grabbed one already. And another one sometime not too long after. Normally, you don't start filling gaps at specific positions until much later in the draft, like perhaps starting in the teens. And normally I agree with that. However, I do think that catching is an exception, because it is nearly impossible to trade for it. There are just so few long-term successful catchers, and so few catching prospects out there that look worthwhile, that teams aren't trading them. And the White Sox have, IMO, a dire lack of catching talent depth across the organization right now. I want to see that addressed if at all possible. So my question to this group is, who are the current college catchers at the top of people's draft boards? I'll look into some in a little bit later this week.

Man, maybe Jerry is just a smart business man that doesn't want to saddle the team with franchise crippling deals?

QUOTE (beautox @ Feb 22, 2015 -> 08:57 AM) Minor League Madhouse has us taking Mantuella at 8 link This would make me unbelievably happy. Having Matuella in addition to Danish, Montas and Adams wold be fantastic depth.

Hawk on the Score with Mully & Hanley this morning
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) I love the Farmer and DJ pairing. It has nothing to do with baseball but they're so damn weird and awkward that they make me laugh when I listen to them. But like others have said, I guess that'd probably change if I listened to them a lot. I love them for this reason. But in all honesty, I'd probably get rid of all the announcers but DJ.

Crain has thrown from mound
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) Man, the 2013 pre-injury version of Crain would look great on this team. I always like that guy and don't think he got enough credit for how good he was with the Sox even in 2011,2012. Time with Sox: 12-9, 2.10 ERA, 3.09 FIP, 1.167 WHIP, 2.71 K/BB, 3.5 fWAR in 150 innings. Pre-injury 2013 Crain on this team is very scary. I do like that there is genuine competition for the pen this year.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 04:56 PM) After their evisceration of the CBA in regards to their INTL, this deal should not be allowed to go through. It shouldn't, but sadly it will.

Wow, hope Bosh is OK. I always disliked him least of the Big 3 and actually kinda like him this year. Sucks for Miami, they went from possible upset team post Dragic trade to cannon fodder.

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) Yeah, now. Back in 2002, everybody outside of LA said he he'd suffer a great deal without Shaq. Westbrook is the most physically/athletically gifted pg in nba history, with an impressive skillset to boot. He'd be just fine without KD. I love Russ, but Magic? The court vision to go with his height and ball handling skills might not be explosive, but it's amazing. And MVP Rose is still the fastest / pagan god of layups. I'd agree that Russ is most explosive though.

July 2nd (2015) prospects
QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) I'm guessing this means Vlad Jr. worked out for teams today, including the Sox. https://twitter.com/BBDominicano/status/567818946449010688 Excellent.

2014-2015 NBA thread
People forget that during his MVP year and the following year, Derrick Rose was god damn near elite defensively. His problem was playing down to competition, but when he wanted to he was a nightmare for opposing PGs. This years Westbrook is close to MVP Rose, but people are really forgetting how damn good he was, even when he couldn't buy a call to save his life.

Latest Vegas odds for regular season wins
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 06:19 PM) I was fighting for Robert because that's my dad's name, Roberto Clemente and Robert F. Kennedy.....but it sounds like "robot" in Chinese English so I have compromised to Ethan Robert if it's a boy. For a girl, Chloe or Zoe(y). Probably Zoe(y), because Chloe is a perfume and also for the Salinger short story. Chloe sounds too much like a celebrity kid's name, although Zoe kind of does, too. "One Dog" or "Lance On Point" are tempting. Or The Deacon. As for the Angels' pick, a lot depends on Richards' health. He was their ace last year before the injury. And I wouldn't be betting on anything more from Hamilton and Pujols than what they provided last year. Congrats Caulfield! Totally go with One Dog.

2014-2015 NBA thread
It's been a disappointing first part of the season, but there are positives to build on going into the ASB. Jo is looking more and more active. Gasol and Jimmy showing no signs of slowing down. Derrick beginning to attack more, pulling out the old MVP moves. Shooting less threes. Snell gaining confidence. McDermott is healthy. Dunleavy is back. Kirk is on the bench at the moment.

Sporcle quiz I made 5 years ago
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 12, 2015 -> 01:07 AM) While I was in St. Louis last weekend for the Hawks game, my family was talking about a sports quiz I made up years back and I was able to actually find it on Sporcle. I think I've posted this here before years ago, but here it is again. http://www.sporcle.com/games/JoeCoolMan24/...houtCityorState Anyone get all 8?

ESPN Sox vs Cubs Article
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) I always love articles that say the team is going to be bad, but on the other hand he wouldn't be surprised if they won 90 games. He will count himself correct in October no matter what happens. That was my favorite part. "They will either be under .500 or really, really good."
