Taylor's defense is depressing, to say the least. It's like De Aza's D on steroids.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 6, 2014 -> 03:09 AM) It said he's out at least a week. Why play again? The same reason he played this season. A farewell.
-
Just got home. Saw Sale only went six innings, did he just not have it tonight?
-
I actually thought Towers was already fired.
-
Well, point went over your head.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 09:53 AM) Schwarber, considered to be an advanced hitting prospect, also had a K% of 19.9% in A+ ball. Tim Anderson, considered to be an extremely talented but raw hitter, has a 22.7% K% at A+. Maybe hold back on the Schwarber love. He doesn't look like a bad prospect, but you want to see a guy like that do it in AA before you consider him an elite level prospect. But Schwarber was an overdraft by the Cubs and Theo Epstein, therefore good. Tim Anderson was a draft pick by the Sox, therefore bad.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 07:23 AM) Saw they're a few games under .500 and will play Phoenix who is like 29-5. What? Decimated by injuries this year, including to EDD. Got healthy for the playoffs. Basically the anti-Bulls.

It's about that time of the year again...

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 11:23 PM) Is there really a media war in Chicago between the Sox and Cubs? And if so, how do you gauge who is winning it from China? "Which team gets talked about more and how depressing is the discussion?" -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 10:43 PM) Ugh. Have the Cubs passed the Sox as best team in the city? Yikes. Tallest midget contest, my friend. Tallest midget contest. -
Updated MLB Free Agent Power Rankings List (9/2)

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 05:54 PM) Despite the Dice K and Tanaka situations? Hope they've done a lot of due diligence to make that move...and Maeda doesn't seem to move the meter (quite) to be that legitimate frontline starter that can come in and make an impact like Tanaka did with the Yankees before he went down. Agewise, he seems to fit the profile. Are they going to stick with the same posting system again or has it been changed another time? Or same as last year? Well, I think the Sox might have had a better shot of keeping Tanaka healthy. I also trust the Sox when it comes to pitchers. If they think Maeda would be worth it, he's worth it. -

Give me Maeda depending on cost. -
QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 02:40 AM) Jason Heyward will save the Sox more runs than Brandon McCarthy, Brett Anderson or Justin Masterson and a bounce back offensive year could easily happen. I go back and forth on what his price will be in a trade. Atlanta is not as interested in resigning him as I'd expect, there may be a bit of a buyers market for a guy one year away from FA. Would Gillaspie/Anderson/Danish/Hawkins do it? Maybe. The more I think about it the more I think it would, and it might even more than Atlanta would accept already. There is no way I'd give them both Danish and Anderson.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 10:09 PM) That's still scary. I guess he'll be more of the dreaded utility guy. He's also only 22 and still getting strength. He had three until this year, when he's had 7. I know 7 isn't a lot, but it is showing some developing power.

Taylor doing his best De Aza impression.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 06:41 PM) Am I reading the last few pages correctly? Trade Q because he's overrated and merely a #3/4, keep Danks and his almost 5 ERA who's at best a #5, sign Anderson and McCarthy which both have injury histories only to kick Noesi to the curb despite making quite an improvement in a short amount of time? I'll ask again, am I reading this right? People seem to think that Quintana will immediately flop tomorrow. I feel like this has to do with how we acquired him.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 05:15 PM) Tune into the SEC game on CBS and listen to Verne Lundquist. That guy is a train wreck and needs to be taken out to pasture. He was actually doing PBP of a replay last year and it took until the end of the replay to realize it wasn't live action. It makes me cry.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 04:15 PM) Explain, I would love to hear your reasoning B-Mac is a 32 year old, frequently injured pitcher that was mediocre the past few years other than his current run with the Yankees. Hector Noesi is a #5 starter. John Danks is overpaid and recovering from a huge injury. He's gotten very lucky this year. Brett Anderson is often injured and completely up and down. Sale is the lone bright spot until Rodon arrives.
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) No that's whats free agency is for. Im trading Quintana, with the thought that Rodon will take his spot in the rotation some point during the season. I would sign Brandon McCarthy to a contract and he would be my new number 2 going forward in 2015, and I would sign Brett Anderon to a short term contract (2 years max) that is also heavy on incentives, and if he stays healthy and pitches well I would flip him at the deadline. ROTATION: Sale, McCarthy, Danks, Noesi, Anderson. That rotation is absolute and utter garbage. Like, worst in the league by far garbage.

ISIS is f***ing crazy. I wish there weren't innocents in the region so they could just be blown to hell.

No Rodon or Mitchell is a shock.

Sam and Lynch not making practice squads makes the Mizzou and NIU fan in me sad.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 11:46 PM) Guess he didn't watch BOYHOOD. At any rate, Nymphomaniac 1 is actually quite good, and not exactly what you're expecting. It's a lot less salacious than, say, Spring Breakers or the latest Sin City. Boyhood's gross is $28M. The point is that comic book movies are keeping Hollywood in business in terms of dollars.

Some people just seemed to be obsessed with moving Q. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 04:17 AM) Trading Quintana could be very beneficial for the Sox because both traditional scouts and sabremetricians love him, amd teams always over pay for pitching, especially if its an under 30 left handed pitcher who is among the league leaders in quality starts and is signed to very team friendly contract. Example A: Why the hell would we trade a player that advanced stats and traditional scouts love that is a lefty, under 30, on a team friendly contract that produces great numbers? He's 25. He can theoretically still get better.
-
If we didn't have Sale, people would be looking at Quintana as the staff ace. He keeps improving and is locked up for a while. He, Sale and Rodon all being under control for cheap can give the Sox the ability to build an elite, young and cheap rotation.

http://grantland.com/hollywood-prospectus/...-of-the-galaxy/ Grantland write up about how awful this movie summer is. Who woulda thought comic book movies would be what ultimately are keeping this afloat right now?
